Spring time ride in California Dunes-Glamis

Written by Raceway ATV - the #1 kids Kazuma ATV dealer
Spring time ride in California Dunes-Glamis Updated: Thursday, 06 September 2007

The best time of the year to dust off winter grime off your ATV and take it out for spin after spin is spring time. You won’t be freezing any part of your body off and you don’t risk getting a heat wave…just nice! With spring rolling around the corner, this is the perfect time to take a look at some of hot spots for ATV riding! So, all fellow ATVers, it’s time to push that engine (and that body) again!

Singing a fine dune – California Dunes-Glamis
We never knew this place existed until friend of one of our fellow ATV enthusiast told us about it. The Glamis sand dunes, according to what the brochure said is, apparently, one of the biggest dunes in the world. Be prepared to get crazy at this ATV riding destination because this is where you’ll find the world’s most expansive sand bowls and here is also a place where you’ll need those goggles. Sand in the eyes and other crevices or parts of your body is not a good idea! Riding your ATV at Glamis sand dunes can get a little hot under the collar but when you get desperate (we know the feeling), you won’t two hoots about who’s heating up more…you or your ATV. But the best time, like we said earlier, is to haul your ATV over to this amazing ATV riding spot for the ride of your lifetime.

Some believe that the sand dunes on this ATV riding spot are remnants of beach sands of Lake Cahuila. Don’t worry if you’ve heard about this lake, it’s ancient, by the way. Due to opposing seasonal winds and diversion from Colorado River, the Sand Dune is what we get. Enough with history – all we want to know is that there’s vast expansive of land and sand for us to have our fill of fun this spring!

Extending over 40 miles, there’s tons of fun to be had here for ATV enthusiasts of all skill levels and ages alike. The dunes stretch over the eastern edge of Imperial Valley. As you take your ATV for a spin in this ATV hot spot, you’ll get to see Coachelle Canal to the north. The Glamis Dunes in California is not called the perfect playground for ATV lovers for nothing. There are lots of opportunities to take photos, be enchanted with the awesome scenery, and if you’re into nature and plants, there’s plenty of rare plants and animals too!

If you think it’s not possible to get lost in the ATV dune, think again. It’s really big enough for even expert ATV riders to get lost – in fact, the ATV riding spot is so big that it has to be divided into regions. The ‘washes’ are to the south where most people set up camp.

Through the vast expansive ATV favorite riding spot, you can select which trail system to use to suit the skill level of the particular ATV rider. The California Dunes-Glamis is officially called the Imprerial Sand Dune Recreational Area and can be found on the southern part of California just slightly off Interstate 8 and a notch or two higher than State HWY 78.

Ready for the ride? Hold onto the brakes a moment here. To ride this ATV hot spot, you’ll need a permit. We suggest getting the ATV riding permit before heading on over because you don’t want any surprises. To get it online, click on over to the official website where they specifically tell you that it is the only legal and official place to purchase a permit to ride your ATVs at the dunes. If you want to know where you can physically get the permits, check this website out for listings and phone numbers. For more information and specific instructions and directions, email them at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . Once you’ve got the ATV riding permit sorted out, go dust off that ATV of yours!
