South Fork Dirt Riders ATV trail, Illinois

Written by Raceway ATV - the #1 kids Kazuma ATV dealer
South Fork Dirt Riders ATV trail, Illinois Updated: Thursday, 06 September 2007

No matter how many times you go to this particular ATV trail, you’ll never stop having fun…and the ATV trail that we’re talking about is South Fork Dirt Riders site. You see, every year ever since they were set up, something new is added. The value of this ATV trail is that the management of this ATV trail has always made sure that improvements are made and the land widened to accommodate the weekend crowds. The South Fork ATV Trail is one of best ATV trails in Illinois. Although it’s just a few years old and currently quite bare but you can expect a clean and well-organized place to ride. Recently, they added bathrooms and showers with a couple of new pavilions for their ATV riders. If you want to stop for a picnic along this ATV trail, no problem at all. They’ve added picnic tables at certain spots too. another good thing is that there are vendors in and around the ATV trail to provide snacks, drinks, basic food to fill your tummies.

You don’t need to worry about the difficulty level for this ATV trail because they have something for everyone of differing skill level. For instance, beginners can take the 20-mile of ATV trail for practicing. No surprises here – just plain riding with a little bit of obstacle here and there to give the beginners a couple of kicks. There’s also something for those who are into motocross and want to challenge themselves. Sometimes, South Fork ATV trail hosts AMA/ATVA racing here, so, you can imagine what kind of challenge you’re looking at! So, fancy trying to learn Joe Byrd ATV racing? Head on over to South Fork ATV trail folks.

South Fork is also a place where a lot of people come for ATV riding training. Some people, we heard, buy their ATVs nearby and fetch it on over to this ATV trail for some serious lessons on how to ride ATV properly. Good planning, if you ask me.

South Fork ATV trail is actually a very scenic trail and you will have the chance to take loads of photos here but the more interesting thing is that there are quite a fair bit of wild life here. You see, South Fork works closely with Pheasants Unlimited, Quail Unlimited and the Wild Turkey Federation. Hey, says who animals and ATVs are worlds apart. As far as South Fork is concerned, apparently, wild life and ATVers co-share common land.

Luckily for us, there are very few rules to abide by (you can tell, we hate rules!) except for helmets and goggles. And it is open Saturday and Sundays on top of the week days. Most would prefer to find lodging elsewhere off the track where there are more options in terms of food and comfort is concerned but if you want to feel at one with nature, you can select one of their many nearby camping sites. Many fishing fans will do this – a day of ATVing and after dinner, a round of fishing till the wee hours of the mornings.

On top of the $12 day entrance fee, you’ll need and Illinois OHV Sticker which costs you another $11. For the kind of fun we had at South Fork ATV trail, we’d give an arm and a leg, really. It’s really worth your time – if you’re game for it, start hauling!
