More about Women who go off-roading

Even as you’re reading this article, the number of women drivers in the country is rising while the percentage of male drivers drops. This is clearly shown in a survey done by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 1999 which shoes that 80% of American women over the age of 65 operate one motorized vehicle or the other. Quite a surprising stat, actually. Bearing this fact in mind, you can also see that women have a stronger influence over the automotive industry than ever before. For example, women who used to purchase common familial vehicles now prefer to buy SUVs or four-wheel drives. Although the purpose of such purchase varies from woman to woman but the fact remains that women no longer view their vehicles as merely a mode of transportation. They acknowledge and accept the fact that a car is more than that – it can be a sport.

When a woman owns a quad, you can expect her to do her own repair work or maintenance these days. 25% of women reveal that they take responsibility of maintaining their own quad as opposed to asking their male counterpart to do it for them. Even mothers and grandmothers who have taken up quad riding as a sport or recreational activity can tackle simple jobs relating to their quad like changing the wipers and batteries, refilling fuel and fluids, clean and maintain parts of the quad, etc. however, admittedly, men are still more adept in taking over the bigger tasks like muffler repairs, changing the air filters of the quad, repairing the transmission, etc.

And if you flip open a woman’s magazine these days, there’s more than just lipstick, handbags, earrings and skincare products in there. It’s likely that you’ll find articles and advertisements from quad companies selling quad-related items to women. Sometimes, they even have articles on automobiles, new cars, advertisement for used bikes…etc. we found one woman’s magazine publishing articles recommending off-roading destinations to their readers…which we found interesting.

As interest in quads continues to rise amongst the female population of the country, we can expect many more quad manufacturers to pop up and their targets will include kids and women. Non-quad companies have also been doing the same thing for over half a decade. For example, Cadillac, Chevrolet and Ford have been revamping their marketing campaigns so that they can capture the interest of women car buyers. These big-time companies can’t be wrong. The quad industry has also been doing the same thing with companies like Thor and Kazuma coming up with new products designed specifically for women.

The more the merrier, they say, and we’re not complaining.
