Giving back to the ATV trails through volunteer

Nature is a big contributor to the level of fun we have outdoors when we ride our ATVs. To me, riding on concrete and riding out in the nature are two entirely different types of fun. If I were to choose one, I’d say riding in ATV trails provide more hours of fun as compared to riding in circles around an ATV track. I mean, sure, sometimes it’s good to get the chance to push and test ourselves and ATV and that can be done on an ATV track. But at the end of the day, ATVing is much more exciting when you ride it out there in the wild.

Nature has been kind to us and has provided ATV fans like us lots of opportunities to have fun in parks and forests, mud and sand, hence, I feel that we should, perhaps, contribute a little bit towards the maintenance of some of the ATV trails within our region. In itself, volunteering to help at ATV trails that we frequently visit brings a huge sense of satisfaction. It’s like taking care of your very own newborn baby and if someone does something that could potentially harm the health of the ATV trail, you will feel the blood boiling in your eyes and you want to defend the ATV trail. As a kid, I have seen my parents volunteer to upkeep an ATV trail that they used to ride at. We, kids, were FORCED to volunteer then giving excuses like “But there are many other people doing it already. They don’t need us” and “My homework’s not done. I cannot possibly risk getting a B this semester!” But as an adult, I look back at those times we, as a family, toil over at the ATV trail nearby, the experience was enriching and it made my family a little closer. It was like a weekend family activity and once you start volunteering to help at the ATV trail, you can expect it to become a routine. One time, my brother came down sick and we couldn’t go to the ATV trail, I felt uneasy all weekend, like something was missing.

Now that I am all grownup (physically), the demands of everyday life put an unnecessary strain on my health. I can hardly find the time to go riding ATV with my kids and wife, anymore; I couldn’t imagine how it was possible for me to find the time to volunteer at a nearby ATV trail. We ride there as many times as my schedule permits. Then I started flipping through all those pictures of me, my brother and my parents volunteering at a local ATV trail and I thought, “Gee, what am I thinking? I don’t have the time for THIS? This is an important part of life, for me, as an ATV enthusiast. I’m just going to have to MAKE time.” And surprisingly, making time to volunteer at a nearby ATV trail wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be. All it took was a deep breath and a ‘Let’s go!’

Some ATV trails in our country is in dire need of help. Government help can only do so much and without volunteer from people like you and me, these National Forests which makes up of our ATV trails will suffer. While the number of ATV enthusiasts has been growing at an encouraging rate, the state of our ATV trails dipped horrifically. The grants and the recreational permit fees just aren’t enough to cover for the many expenses needed by an ATV trail. The maintenance, the hiring of professionals and daily upkeep…they all need money.

Well, in lieu of money, we can always contribute our effort and time to these ailing ATV trails. Furthermore, I strongly encourage everyone who likes to ride ATV to help out because it helps build family unity. There’s nothing stronger than a ‘mission’ and ‘passion’ when it comes to keeping a family unit united.
