Amasa Basin ATV trail system: Utah, West Desert ATV Trail

Written by Raceway ATV - the #1 kids Kazuma ATV dealer
Amasa Basin ATV trail system: Utah, West Desert ATV Trail Updated: Thursday, 19 April 2007

With wide sprawling desert, space is not an issue with Utah, therefore, it’s Paradise for ATV lovers who love to ride their ATVs. In Utah’s West Desert, there are essentially four ATV trail systems that ATVs are permitted. Most of the ATV trails are pretty rough with lots of steep climbs and rapid declines but the scenery is well worth it as you cross mountains, canyons and hillsides. The Amasa Basin Utah ATV rail ends around Notch Peak Wilderness Study Area. At the end of the trail, if you still have the time and energy, you can take a short hike south along the ridge where you will witness a 4,00-foot vertical drop which is simply breathtaking! Throughout the trail, you’ll get to experience stunning views from 5,400ft to 9,000ft!

The Amasa Basin ATV trail system is one of the more popular trail systems in Utah and for those who are located within Redwood Road, North Temple and Salt Lake City, you’re only about 3 hours drive to Amasa Basin ATV Trail. The trailhead is at Miller Canyon and all you have to do is to find a map and head on out there! The expansive ATV trail will be worth your time as you ride the 33 miles worth of natural beauty. Amasa Basin ATV trail is an ATV trail suitable for beginners and experts alike. Some parts of the ATV trail is more difficult than others, hence, beginner and intermediate ATV riders might need some help getting through the course. It’s important that beginners and intermediate ATV riders do not attempt to complete this ATV trail without the presence of an expert.

On top of having the chance to enjoy nature in the form of beautiful grasslands, shrubs, juniper, aspen and fir, there are some wild animals to lookout for too like antelopes, eagles and hawks! Remember to keep your camera handy at all times!

Remember, when you ride the Amasa Basin ATV trail, you’re completely left alone with mother nature…at least until you reach Delta…which translates into no restrooms, no restaurants, no stalls and no staff! Depending on how quickly you ride, you should have no problems completing Amasa Basin ATV trail within three hours. However, if you make a lot of stops along the way to take pictures, etc, it can take you the whole day! So, as far as timing is concerned, it’s pretty much flexible.

When you ride Amasa Basin ATV trail, you’ll have to remember that you’re very far away from civilization – completely remote, hence, there’s limited cell phone coverage along the ATV trail. Therefore, we strongly urge you to bring along all your safety equipments irregardless of whether you think you’ll need them or not! Even if you get to the rescue department nearby, it may take hours before they can get to you on the ATV trail. For your information, The Notch Peak Wilderness Study Area located at the end of the ATV trail system prohibits motorized vehicles.

The Utah sun, as we all know, can be unforgiving, so, the best time to ride this ATV trail is during autumns and springs. The summer time in Utah is way too punishing even for experts while winter ATV riding is only for experts who are good in maneuvering their ATVs in snow. Either way, just pack loads of water with you.

Here’s a look at what their rating system is like. These indicators will show you how difficult that part of the ATV trail is.

Rating system
Easy - solid green circle
More difficult - solid blue square
Most difficult - solid black diamond
Extreme - sold double black diamonds
