ATVing Fun In Alaska

One of the biggest complaints new ATVers have is that there are not enough "easy" rated trails for them to learn to handle their ATVs on. As you know, it is easy to ride your ATV in a designated area, but riders also need practice handling the unexpected that can occur on the ATV trails.

Ellutna Lake is a very busy Alaskan Lake that happens to have a very fun ATV trail around it. This level of difficulty is very easy and this is great place for beginners to learn to handle their ATVs, hone their trail riding skills, and learn greater maneuvering techniques on their ATVs.

These are multi-use ATV trails and you will run into people hiking, biking, backpacking, horseback riding, dog sledding, other ATVers, people who are Skiing and Snow machining. You will also see numerous people canoeing/kayaking out on the lake no matter what time of year it is.

This is not a long ATV trail measuring in at only 12-miles and would make for a great day of riding for your ATVing group. Along with handling skills, this is a great area for new ATVers to learn to drive friendly with other trail traffic and learn proper techniques for when one meets up with hikers and horseback riders. You never know a horse's temperament, to avoid spooking horses, always pull your ATV over and cut the engine. When the horseback rider is about 100 yards down the trail, restart your ATV and maintain a good safe distance between yourself and the horses.

The nearby Chugach Mountains surround this valley lake and this area is very scenic no matter what time of year you bring your ATV to this area to ride. There are public use cabins available if you intend on camping out. Bring your camera to capture those incredible scenary views and make it a long weekend of ATVing with your friends.
