ATVing at Moose River Recreation Area

If you're going to be in the West Canada area and you're looking for a fun ride on your ATV, check out the Moose River Recreation Area. The trail system is located in the largest block of public land in the Adironacks that is accessible by a vehicle. When you ride your ATV in this area, you will see many types of scenary. Flatlands, lush forests, herb and grass plains around the Moose and Red Rivers and ridges and mountains. If you're an experienced rafter, the Moose River is not for the faint of heart, this river offers up some of the most intense whitewater rafting and turns into a slow drift throught the more isolated wilderness areas.

There are numerous designated campsites and picnic areas and the ATV trails are clearly marked with colored disks making them easy to follow. Fishing is allowed in these waters and you will have the opportunity to catch brook trout, brown trout, splake, and kokanee salmon.

Sly Pond Trail climbs a little over 5-miles up the side of Little Moose Mountain and then descends into Sly Pond. The pond has acidic waters and contains no fish. Lost Ponds Trail which is another mile down the trail is a popular fishing spot and you're sure to catch trout if you make a stop there. If you brought your canoe along for the weekend, Hell Diver Pond Trail leads to a great place to get your canoe wet and enjoy a serene paddle around the pond.

The trails are due to change without notice, so always call before you haul and remember when you ride on these pristine lands, leave them better than when you arrived.
