Tips for ATV Suspension And Steering

A good suspension and steering system helps keep you and your ATV in one piece, so when problems start to show up, you need to take care of them right away. Fine tuning your suspension and steering will help you avoid more costly repairs later on.

Fine tuning your suspension and steering to customize them for your own body weight really cuts down on rider exhaustion at the end of the day. By making just one change at a time, you will be able to tell if your adjustments are making your suspension and steering better or worse. Then you can move on to the next adjustment if needed.

The first step to a better suspension and steering system is to adjust the length of your ATV's shocks to your body weight. This is a two person job, and your partner will be checking to see how much your ATV sags when you are sitting on it in full gear. A simple turn of the bolt near the bottom of the spring will let you adjust it for proper suspension.

You can also adjust how easily your shock compresses and rebounds for ultimate comfort and control. Mushy shocks keep you bouncing too much, while hard shocks make for a bumpy ride. You need to find a happy medium that allows your shocks to use the maximum amount of travel compression without hitting a hard bottom at the end. Likewise for rebound. You need your shock to return to position fast enough to take the next bump without ejecting you off.

Are you having any other suspension and steering issues with your ATV? If your ATV pulls to one side or the other, you may have unequal tire pressure. Use a tire gauge to check, and add air as needed. If you feel some pull or any other suspension and steering problems, check your front end alignment.

Customizing your ATV suspension and steering systems will give you a better ride and help keep your ATV in top condition.
