Every state has their own set of regulations when it comes to ATV registration. Some will honor the registrations of other states, while others require ATV riders to purchase an additional registration to ride within state boundaries.
Here is an overview of the laws regarding ATV registration in Wisconsin. Taking the time to familiarize yourself with them can save you from the possibility of having to delay your trip.
* All ATVs must be insured before they are eligible for registration in Wisconsin.
* Wisconsin residents may register their ATVs for:
Private use- $15 fee covers ATV use exclusively on private property.
Public use- $30 fee covers ATV use on public and private land with owner's
permission.
Agricultural use- $15 fee covers agricultural use on private property and does
not cover use on public land.
Municipal Government use-$5 fee covers city, village and county police.
* Non- Wisconsin residents must display a Wisconsin registration sticker on their ATV at all times, in addition to their state's registration.
* States of Michigan and Illinois ATV registrations are not recognized by the state of Wisconsin, so ATVs from those states must purchase a Wisconsin registration.
* All out of state motorized vehicles must meet Wisconsin's definition of an ATV to legally operate within the state.
Always look up what your State's laws are for riding ATVs and in any state you plan on riding your ATV in, it's better to safe than sorry!
