Lone Mountain ATV Trail

The Lone Mountain Trail is located in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests and is a great run for all you ATVers.

This trail is part of the South Pedlar ATV Trail System, that networks about 19 miles of looping trails. The directions for getting there is as follows - traveling from Buena Vista, follow U.S. Highway 501 south. Continue on U.S. 501 to the intersection with State Route 130 at the Snowden power plant on the James River. Continue on State Route 130 another mile to the junction of FDR 564 on your left. Turn left onto FDR 564 to the Rattlesnake Trailhead parking lot. Another 3/4 miles east on State Route 130, turn left onto FDR 319 to the Terrapin Trailhead parking lot and you're there and get ready for a great ATV ride!

This is a wonderful trail for ATVing. It gives you narrow and steep areas, as well as wide and down hill running. Look out for debris that might have fallen across the road and if you're riding your ATV in the early morning or early evening chances are, forest animals will be watching you. Other sport enthusiasts will use these trails as well, so take it slow and keep your attention focused on what's going on around you. It won't be uncommon to see other ATVers, mountain bikers, motocross riders, and hikers. The occasional horseback rider will be on these trails as well. If you happen to see a horse coming towards you, kill your engine and allow the horse to safely pass to avoid spooking the horse with your ATV.

This particular trail only allows 4-wheel ATV's, 3-wheels are not permitted.
These trails are marked well with orange diamonds and a reflective mountain symbol. Along with a map, you should have no problem maneuvering your ATV through these trails.

Also, keep in mind that Lone Mountain ATV Trail is closed from December 25 through April 1 due to the weather.
