Choosing a Nitro RC Car or Truck

The fun of RC (radio controlled) cars is spreading and growing in popularity. Even more fun are the Nitro or gas powered RC cars. These cars can easily do speeds of up to 70MPH and look like miniatures of the larger size model cars they emulate.

Nitro RC Cars are a very exciting hobby. There are a few things to consider before you get your first Nitro RC car or truck to ensure that you have exactly the model you want. Consider ease of handling, ease of maintenance and the look you want.

The HPI Savage X - Nitro Offroad RC Truck is a 1/8-scale model and is the size that is most popular for off-road nitro RC trucking fun. This monster truck replica has a big block engine and it is known for and will go through the paces with its TVP chassis and long stroke 8-shock suspension. This is a great first nitro RC car as it is easy to handle and easy to adjust, even for a beginner RC enthusiast.

The motor on your RC Car should be a consideration too. Nitro RC cars and trucks come with 2 basic kinds of engines. An easy way to understand 2-stroke engines is they need an oil and fuel mixture much like a lawnmower or gas powered weedwhacker. The other type of engine is a 4-stroke that has a reservoir of oil and can run the engine on straight fuel. The advantages of a 2-stroke engine is that it will produce higher RPMs and is better for racing. A 4-stroke engine has a lot more power and is a superior choice for offroad use.

Maintenance on your RC car will be necessary. Maintaining the transmission on the HPI Savage X couldn't be easier. Just remove a few screws around the top case and it lifts off for easy maintenance.
