You've got one body. Protect it! Friday, 08 December 2006
ATV racing is dirty business and although it's an intense sport, many people, (normal folks like us) can enjoy it without breaking a bone at all. Well, granted, accidents DO happen – it's ATVing for goodness' sakes, things like mistakes and misjudgments happen all the time. When you're racing with all your heart through a trail or a track, there are obstacles. The obstacles are what makes ATV racing exciting but it's also what makes ATV racing a little dangerous. We don't know any other kind of exciting , anyway. Therefore, it makes sense if we say ‘one can never wear too much protection'. The lower body is important but the part of your body that is more vulnerable is the upper body which is, effectively, the part of your body that is most exposed…and the HeadQuarters is there too. (Just in case you're not sure, we're talking about your head ).

For better protection against bruises, cuts and burns, always wear ATV protective gear like boots and ATV riding pants because irregardless of how good you are, you can never rule out misjudgment and error on your part. In fact, it doesn't even have to be YOUR fault at all – it could be misjudgment on the part of another rider and you're just…well, unlucky.

Even as early as the 1980's when ATVing first started becoming popular, chest protection and ATV shoulder protection gear is widely accepted as the norm. Not only was chest and shoulder protection important for ATV riders, it was also considered an essential part of the attire for dirt bike riders as well. It may all seem like a whole lot of work just to get yourself together for ATVing but here's a piece of advice… it's worth it . And furthermore, upper body protection for ATV riders these days are no longer as bulky and heavy as it used to be back in the 70s and 80s. Thank goodness too.

Through studies and surveys conducted through the years based on feedback from fellow ATVers, not only are these ATV protective gear lighter and easier to wear, they're pretty clever and fashionable too! Essentially, the new batch of upper body protective gear penetrating the market for 2007, as far as we can see, is based on the motorcyclists' needs in general but it works just fine for ATVers too.

There's a remarkable improvement in the design of back protectors available for ATV riders next year and this is because back protectors will be smaller and lighter on top of the fact that most have cross torsion linkages shock absorber system. This type of back protectors helps absorb the shock, adapts to the movement of the ATV rider easily and adjusts accordingly for impact speed reduction. We understand if you feel a little uneasy about having to put on a back protector, a jacket and further items for knees, shoulders and elbows…sounds a whole lot more than we intend for it to. But if you're not the kind who HATES taking AGES to prepare for ATV riding, try an ATV protective jacket that comes with…basically everything we've just mentioned. Watch out for it. You'll love them so much you'll wear them to sleep.

For ATV riders who suffer from old back injuries, you might want to consider getting one of ‘em lower back padding just to keep from straining your back too much. And the way we see it, snowmobile companies are slowly creeping into the scene too with highly adjustable protective gears that can be used for BOTH snowmobile riding and ATV riding. Although it might be a little bulkier than whatever you're used to ( IF you have been using protective vests made for ATV riders) right now, last we heard, they're rather affordable and can last like…a lifetime.

As you can see, protective gears made for other sports like dirt bike riding, snowmobiling and protective gears made for mountain climbing can be used as well. We pretty fancy those that come with magnificent chest plates, provide good ventilation and are comfortable enough to wear it on its own.

Whatever the product and brand, protective gear for ATVers is a must and we don't feel like we're in a nagging mood but you've only one body, protect it. For top class protective gears, you might want to race on over to Raceways affordable ATV gears page for adults or head on to the Kids ATV gear page if you're thinking of getting something for the little ones.
