Best Ways To Handle a Motorcycle Tire Blowout
No one wants to have to go through a blowout when they are riding their motorcycle on the track or the trail. However, in the adverse event that this does happen to you, it is important that you know what to do. There are some steps that you can take to reduce your risk of being hurt as well as perhaps minimize the amount of damage that your motorcycle may suffer.
Clearly, the smart thing to do would be to take as many steps as you can to try and avoid a blowout when you are riding. You can do this by inspecting your tires regularly, before and after every ride will give you a great idea of any potential problems that may be brewing. If you do happen that one of your tires is starting to go flat, you should always try to quickly fix it. This will help in maintaining proper balance at all times. Another very smart and important move is making sure that your tires are free from any debris that could puncture your tires. When you are riding and you have a blowout, you should stay as calm as possible so you can concentrate on your steering. Holding on and keeping a straight course is your best bet for maintaining control. Once you determine which tire has started to go flat, you can then slowly apply the brake for the tire that is still inflated and bring your bike to a safe stop.
If you need a new tire, Raceway now carries ATV and motorcycle tires and best of all, shipping is free!

Better Riding by Understanding Target Fixation
When riding a motorcycle, you tend to go in the direction you are looking, and if you fix your vision on a particular target, you will find yourself heading right at it. This is what is known as target fixation and it can get you hurt.
A good example is found in the form of a simple pothole. Pretend that you're riding down the road and you notice a pothole up ahead. If you keep your eyes on the pothole, chances are very good that you will end up riding your motorcycle right into it instead of avoiding it. And there is a reason this happens. When you fix your sights on an object, your body instinctively aligns itself with the direction you are looking, even though you may not be aware of it. And when you're riding a motorcycle, every move of your body makes a difference. Just a little pressure on one handgrip or the other can finely steer your motorcycle in the direction you are looking.
Now that you understand how target fixation works, you can use it to your advantage to be a safer rider and avoid oncoming trouble. Let's use our pothole example once again. Instead of keeping your focus on that pothole, adjust your focus to where you think you should be on the road to avoid that pothole and your motorcycle will follow your line of sight. In this way, you can avoid hitting the pothole and place yourself in a safer position.
Understanding the theory of target fixation and turning it to your advantage can help you become a safer motorcycle rider.

Washing Your Dirt Bike
Washing your bike is a very important part of maintaining your bike and now Raceway makes it easy with their line of cleaning products. However, many people do not know how to properly wash their dirt bike. There are some simple tips and tricks that you can use to ensure that you are getting the most out of your washing process.
When you are looking to give your dirt bike a good washing, one of the most important things that you should do is lay the dirt bike on its side for a good rinsing. This way, you are better able to remove all of the stuck on dirt they may be laying underneath the bike. Wash and Shine, now available from Raceway is a fantastic product to use to get your bike really clean. This concentrated cleaner really digs in and loosens dirt and grime.
Another good idea is to be sure that you inspect your brake pads and disks as well as your chains and sprockets. This is a good step along with inspecting the rest of the drive train to be sure that nothing jiggled or moved out of place during your ride. You can take a good degreaser to the chain and sprockets as well to be sure that you get rid of any gunk and build up that can cause problems down the road.
Once you have gone through the washing process, it is a smart idea to go through and be sure that all of the important parts get a chance to dry properly. Removing the ignition cover and your seat are two great places to start to be sure that everything dries. When you are finished, your dirt bike will look like it was cleaned by an expert!

Children and Motocross
If you are ready to put your child into motocross, purchasing the proper and approved safety equipment can significantly reduce the risks. We all know that motocross can be a dangerous sport, but when safety is made a priority, both parent and child can enjoy this exciting sport.
An additional form of defensive safety is the instruction by an AMA Certified instructor, a lot of former riders now teach. These instructors can teach the children skills that can make them safer on the track as well as skills that could increase their competitive edge. Instruction is very helpful but could be pricey. Another way to teach safety in competition is that it's not always important to be the winner, over-confidence can lead to decisions that may cause injury not only to your child, but all the riders on the track as well as spectators.
Purchasing a bike is the first major hurdle. Raceway has a huge selection of motocross bikes. Get the best fit for your child and do not purchase a bike for the child to grow into. It is important that your young rider has exactly the bike they need now and not a more powerful bike they are not ready to neither ride nor control.
Remember, new is not always a necessity; you won't have to purchase the newest hottest bike every year or two. A well-maintained bike can have years of life and teaching your child the responsibility of doing basic cleaning and maintenance of their bike is a good lesson in personal responsibility. Once you get a bike and safety gear, your next step is to find a track. You can usually catch the buzz off of other motocross parents of where the best tracks are and at the tracks you can get information about competitive events your child might enjoy participating in.
Motocross is a great way to spend quality time together with your child. From riding lessons to performing maintenance together to cheering your child on at the track, riding motocross can be a very positive experience for you both.

Ways to Avoid Accidents when Riding a Motorcycle
No one rides hoping for an accident or impact. There are some riding practices you can use to help lessen your chances of being involved in an accident when you ride your motorcycle. Trying to include as many of these habits as you can when you are riding is the best way to start on the road to becoming the safest rider that you can be.
One of the first things that you can do to help yourself be safe is to wear clothing that is going to make you highly visible to other drivers that are on the track, trails and roads. This is especially important at night when visibility is extremely limited. Use your headlights all of the time, even in the daytime. Make sure that you make your intentions clear to other drivers. You can accomplish this by using all of your signals properly. If other drivers know what you are preparing to do then they can act accordingly.
Space is key. Another good way to avoid one is to make sure that you have a big enough space between your motorcycle and other vehicles. Making sure that you have an adequate cushion of space when you are following another vehicle goes a long was to avoiding accidents. Having enough space between you and other vehicles gives you more time and distance to react to possible problems if they happen. Another tip for avoiding accidents is to be aware and alert to all that is going on around you. If you are a diligent rider then this should stop a lot of problems before they can even turn into something worse. Make sure that you scan the trail or road ahead of you for up to 10 to 15 seconds of travel time. Be aware of what is going on behind you and on both sides of you as well. Wear helmets and eye protection that do not block visibility.
Never ride fatigued. Being alert is one of the most important things that you can do. Experience is key to avoiding obstacles and situations that will result in an impact. This is something that can be halfway learned but the real learning can only come from experience. The more you ride safe, the more you make being a safe rider a habit and lower your chances of being involved in an accident.

Tips For Motorcycle Positioning
Riding safely is paramount. When you are thinking about purchasing a motorcycle it is very important that you learn how to ride safely. There is nothing more exhilarating than a ride out on the open road. Motorcyclists take great pride in their ability to ride, and it is very important for the safety of not only yourself, but for everybody on the road that you learn how to position yourself in a correct way on your motorcycle.
Being in the correct riding position on your motorcycle also means that you are set up to properly control yourself when you are riding your bike. You want to be sure that you are able to hold the handlebars firmly just in case any bumps in the road can catch you off guard. It is equally important that you also sit close enough that you have plenty of play when you are trying to steer and turn your motorcycle. The last thing you want to do is have to stretch to be able to maneuver the bike, this could slow your reaction time.
When you are looking to turn, it is commonly known to be a good idea to hold your knees up close to the gas tank. This can give you the balance that you need. You also want to be sure that you are always keeping your feet firmly pressed down on your foot pegs. It can be dangerous if your feet are too low as there is the possibility of catching them on something.
Using these tips will help you be a better and safer motorcycle rider!

ATV Trail Riding in Wyoming
Wyoming has very few laws and rules for riding your ATV. When you're riding your ATV, commonsense will tell you if you come upon private land, leave it as you found it. That's a good ethic in riding your ATV. Another common occurrence is if you come upon forest or game animals, don't go out of your way to frighten them or chase them on your ATV, that's another good ethical riding skill.
Some other good ethics to observe out on the ATV trails are:
*Do not go trailblazing on your ATV and otherwise damage the land. If the ground is extremely muddy or wet, find a way around that area; riding your ATV directly through it can damage the vegetation around the area substantially.
*Be aware of other riders. This includes not only other ATVers, but motorcyclists and horseback riders as well. If a horseback rider is approaching you from either direction, pull your ATV over and let the horse and rider pass your ATV. The engine may not spook all horses, but if someone got thrown from a horse and was badly injured, you could possibly be held liable. The ethical thing to do is erring on the side of caution and let the horse pass your parked ATV. Restart your engine when the horse and rider are a safe distance down the trail.
*Be a volunteer when you can. ATV trails need lots of maintenance to stay fresh. Periodically ATV trails need to be closed so the land can reclaim itself and new ATV trails opened. Help your local forest agency or private ATV riding trail facility if you are able.
Treadlightly has developed a large amount of information for riding your ATV ethically. Learn all you can and have a great time riding your ATV and knowing you're doing it responsibly. Responsible riding will help keep the trails you love to ride open!

Keeping Your Shocks and Forks Maintained on Your Dirt Bike and Motorcycle
Keeping your motorcycle and dirt bike shocks and forks in good condition is easy if you let preventative maintenance be a key factor. Shock absorbers should be externally cleaned at least once a month. After cleaning, visually inspect the shocks for dull or pitted spots on the shaft, and for leaks around the seals.
Next, slide the bump rubber up the shaft and inspect the shaft where the bump rubber sits. This is very important in the prevention of shaft damage that will result in needing a replacement. Once a month grease all the shock bushings and all suspension linkage parts. Depending on the type of riding you do you will need to change the fluid and do an internal inspection about every 3 to 6 months, and seals should be replaced once a year. Forks on your motocross bike also need external cleaning after each day of riding and a thorough inspection for wear at least every 3 months.
If you ride where the track is loose and your bike gets extremely dirty, you may have to do these maintenance steps a little more often. Get to know your bike and you'll soon get a regular maintenance routine that works without taking up a huge amount of time.
Preventive maintenance will save you money in the long run and if you need to replace a part on your machine, talk to the pros at Raceway where you can get the parts you need and shipping is always free.

Basic Wheel Maintenance
Dirt bikes don't work too well without wheels. That's why it's so important to perform routine maintenance on your dirt bike wheels to keep them in perfect working order. Without this regular maintenance, there's just no way you can really keep control of your bike at all times.
Spokes provide the structural integrity for your dirt bike wheels. By adjusting the spokes you can help your wheels spin true again. If your dirt bike wheel tends to wobble from side to side, you can correct it by loosening the spokes on the side where the rim looks more away from the center, and then tighten the spokes that look like they are pushing too much toward the center of the wheel. This way you can even out the centerline and your dirt bike wheels will be true again.
Spoke adjustment can also eliminate flat spots in your wheels. You can loosen the spokes right at the flat spot and tighten the spokes just on either side of it. Use your judgment as to just how many spokes ought to be adjusted according to how large the flat spot is. However, if your rim is dented, no adjusting of the spokes is going to help and the rim will need to be replaced.
Ever seen a clown car at the circus with one square wheel? Dirt bike wheels that need trueing of the wheels (adjustment) will give you that same wobbly feeling. A little maintenance that is done on a regular basis will give your wheels longer wear and give you a much safer ride.

International ATVing Fun -Austrailia
If you're looking for a perfect escape from the regular vacation and one that involves ATVs, sand and kangaroos, then the Cooloola Coast in Australia is the perfect getaway spot for you.
The Cooloola coast is a breathtakingly region of Australia that has vast sandy beaches and coastal forests. Located about two hours north of Brisbane in Queensland, there is a large and varied amount of terrain to explore in the area.
ATV enthusiasts will have a great time wandering through the sand and when you're tired you can hang out at one of the various hotels and restaurants in the area. Another area that is ready for exploring on the coast is the Great Sandy National Park, Red Canyon, Rainbow Beach, and Freshwater Track. All of which are located beachside and you are allowed to ride on the fresh white sands of this are. There are very few obstacles in this area and nearly all the ATV trails are rated very easy to easy intermediate. You do not need to have an ATV permit to ride these areas, however helmets are mandatory. Goggles (a must wear due to all the sand) and gloves are not a requirement but definitely a good idea.

If You Fall When Riding
If you get into a situation where you are falling from your motorcycle, it can happen so quickly there isn't a lot of time to stop and remember proper techniques for falling or what you should and shouldn't do with your body position and you may have no ability to control yourself even if you can think of what to do in any event.
However, knowing how to fall is one of the keys to not being injured in the event of a spill on your dirt bike or motorcycle. First, let's talk about a low side fall. This is when you fall off and your bike winds up out in front of you. In the event of a fall, always try to stay behind your bike, push off if you need to. If you can, try to roll onto your back and spread yourself out to make the most surface contact possible which will slow you down. Do not attempt to get up in anyway until you're completely sure you have come to a full stop. Flailing your arms and legs during a fall can break bones.
The other end of the falling spectrum is a type of fall called a high side. In this case you have the unwelcome position of being in front of your motorcycle after the spill. You really want to make sure you don't come to a stop until after your motorcycle does. In this case, your best bet is to tuck your arms and legs in to lessen your amount of surface friction to keep moving longer and with any luck, away from your bike.
There is no sure fire way to control yourself during a fall, but use these tips to lessen the severity of a situation if you happen to have a spill while riding your dirt bike.

Good Motorcycle Braking Techniques
Learning proper braking on your motorcycle is one of the most important things that you are going to need to learn when riding your bike. There is more to stopping your motorcycle than just hitting the brakes. You need to know that motorcycles have two brakes. There is the front brake that is operated by the right hand and then there is the rear brake that is operated by the right foot.
One of the big things would be to make sure that you use both motorcycle brakes each time you either slow down or come to a stop. This is good practice for you to learn how to use the front brake properly. Its better to know how to use the front brake before you actually need to use it. If you use only the rear brake, you may never learn how to use the front brake properly. Proper motorcycle braking requires that you squeeze the front brake and press down the rear brake smoothly. Make sure you gradually increase the pressure as needed. Don't jerk the front brakes or hit the rear brakes hard as it can cause the brakes to lock up.
Also, do a pre-ride inspection and check your brakes for wear, never push your brakes to the limit and ride with excessively worn ones, replace as necessary and now it is more convenient than ever to do so as Raceway carries all the parts you need to keep your machine purring like a kitten.

Extreme ATVing in North Carolina
If you are a skilled ATVer looking for some really rough and rugged terrain to put your ATV through the paces on, then the ATV trails at Upper Tellico are for you. The majority of the ATV trails found in the area are very rocky with lots of obstacles to overcome such as huge tree roots, large mud puddles and steep slippery areas. These are definitely not trails suitable for beginners. In fact, these trails are considered by many to be some of the toughest ATV trails in North America.
The Upper Tellico ATV/ OHV area can be found inside the Nantahala National Forest, which is a brief drive from Murphy, North Carolina in the southwestern part of the state. There are over 40 miles contained within the trails at Upper Tellico, which are split into 12 numbered trails, ranging in levels of difficulty. Some of the harshest trails in the system are trails number 11 and 2, which require you to ride your ATV at an extremely low level in order to overcome the extremely hard to conquer rocks and nasty drop offs. These are very dangerous trails and should be used only by people with an extensive amount of experience.
For those looking for a challenge that is just as challenging but a little safer, try trails number 8, 10, 3, and 4. These are very tough trails, even the beginning trail that is considered the easiest in this trail system which is trail number 1, is still rated as a very difficult trail.

Using GPS When ATVing
A Global Positioning System (GPS) for your ATV can be an extremely useful item for several reasons. How can an ATV GPS help you when you're on a ride? It is a common occurrence that many ATV trails are not well marked, and it's all too easy to start out on one ATV trail and wind up on another. If you don't have your own map of the trails, you could find yourself in a bit of a fix. A GPS can help you orient yourself so you can head back in the right direction.
Preventing theft is another way many ATVers utilize GPS. It can serve as a tracking device for your ATV. With ATV thefts on the rise, a GPS can alert you the moment your ATV begins to move, and if you're not the person moving it, then chances are you have a problem. When you set your GPS tracking device, it will send an alert if it detects a breach in your ATV's system. An engine start, or wheel movement are all that is needed to trigger the alert. How are you alerted? You can receive the alert to as many telephone numbers as you provide your ATV GPS system provider. Your home and cell phones at least should be included on your list, and you can receive text messaging, pager service and even e-mail.
Your ATV GPS becomes invaluable if for some reason you get stuck out on the ATV trail. Your ATV may have broken down and you might be stranded in the middle of nowhere and unable to get a cell phone signal. When you don't come back at the expected time, friends and family will be able to locate your position by the signal from your GPS.

Throttle Issues and How to Fix Them
In many cases, stuck throttles and other throttle issues that occur while riding your motorcycle are generally due to improper bike maintenance. Making sure that you do a pre-ride inspection will eliminate many of the problems you might experience regarding chain and throttling issues. If your throttle gets stuck when you are riding you are going to have to think and act quickly so that you can avoid a spill.
If your throttle sticks, one of the first things that you should do is to try and twist the throttle back and forth a few times. If your throttle cable is what is stuck than this should work and free it. You can also try to close the throttle again. If this isn't working then you can hit the kill switch. This action will stop power to the rear wheel but not to the engine right away. It takes a little bit of time for the engine to rev down to a stop. If you have a throttle that sticks, do not ride your bike until you fix the problem. This type of mechanical issue can be very dangerous. If you need to replace parts on your bike, talk to the pros at Raceway as they can get the parts you need. Best of all, when you order from Raceway, shopping is not only convenient but shipping is free.

Cape Lookout ATV Riding
If you are in the North Carolina area and you are looking for a new place to ride your ATV, the Cape Lookout National Seashore is a beautiful backdrop for an ATV ride. ATVs are allowed on the North and South Core banks as long as you remain within the Cape's boundaries.
All ATV riders are required to follow a set of rules designed to keep everyone safe as they enjoy the natural flora and fauna.
As of December 2005 a new set of rules and regulations have gone into affect in North Carolina. Here is a summary:
* All ATVs must have working brakes and muffler, with a United States Forest Service approved spark arrestor.
* All ATV riders must wear a helmet and goggles approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
* All ATVs ridden after dusk must have working head lamps and tail lights.
* Only one rider to an ATV unless there is an actual second seat provided by the manufacturer.
While you're at Cape Lookout, you might want to take advantage of other area amusements in this lovely seaside resort. The Cape Lookout Lighthouse is one of the area's greatest highlights. This working lighthouse has only recently been made available to the public.
Camping is allowed at certain designated areas at this riding location in case you'd like to make a long, fun day of riding last a whole weekend!

Cable Maintenance for Your Dirt Bike
Well-maintained cables work smoothly with an easy squeezing action. When they don't, your clutch or throttle can stick, and if your throttle sticks you can very possible get thrown off your bike. Maintaining your cables is paramount to safe riding.
Unfortunately, the majority of cable problems usually come from a lack of maintenance. Let dirt build up, and don't bother to lubricate your cables, and they'll get progressively tougher to use, and if you're very unlucky, they may just snap. Instead of waiting until problems arise, why not head trouble off at the pass by getting into a habit of routine maintenance.
Dirt bike cable maintenance cables can be broken down into three sections.
Cleaning - It's easiest to clean your cables if your remove them from your dirt bike first. As you wipe the cable down, look closely for any nicks in the cover that may indicate damage of the core underneath. Your cable covers are meant to be a barrier against dirt and water reaching the inside. If your cover is damaged, you can do a little first aid on it and it will be useable again. But if your dirt bike cable cores are damaged then you're going to need new cables. You can use a funnel to help you flush solvent through the cable core and remove any crud trapped inside until the core slides easily in the housing once again.
Repairs - If you do find any nicks in your dirt bike cable, you can repair it with a little electrical tape. While this method works in a pinch, it would actually be better to use some shrink tubing for a more permanent fix.
Lubrication -Once everything is clean and any repairs have been carried out, it's time to lubricate your dirt bike cables. The easiest way to do is to load WD40 into one end of your cable and let gravity do the rest. When the lubricant drips out of the other end, consider the cable lubed and wipe off any excess.
Follow your manufacturer's manual to properly route your dirt bike cables when you reinstall them and if you find you need new cables, Raceway can now get them for you as they carry a full line of ATV and motorcycle parts.

Quiet Your ATV
With so many laws surrounding how many decibels an ATV is allowed to run at, many people are seeking ways to quiet their ATVs. Case in point: the stealth exhaust system. Stealth exhaust systems are a new, innovative type of muffler. This system allows for high flow, combined with low restriction. Depending on what model ATV the stealth exhaust system is mounted to, the overall performance has even increased, along with midrange power. Best of all, Raceway can now get you these parts for your ATV.
The stealth exhaust system is equipped to fit universally to all ATVs with a four-stroke engine. For those not necessarily mechanically inclined, instructions are included along with all the mounting hardware needed and with a stealth exhaust system, in many cases your ATV's output noise will be reduced by almost half.
These decibel readings were taken while the ATVs were idling, and from 10ft. away, as well as a 45° angle from the back end of the ATV. When the ATV is at approximately 2000 RPM the DB are reduced approximately six to eight decibel levels using the stealth exhaust system. At 3000 RPM, The difference between having an exhaust system and not on your ATV is more commonly ten decibels.
Many national forest lands and publicly managed lands require noise mufflers to be installed prior to riding or you could face a serious fine. Make sure you have the proper mufflers installed on your ATV, check out the line of parts available from Raceway!

Do Your Need New Shocks for Your ATV?
Ever experienced soft and/or mushy shocks on your ATV? In many cases this is a condition you can fix yourself and Raceway now carries ATV replacement parts.
Sometimes, when you're having trouble with the front end of your ATV, your shocks could be the culprit. Before you spend the money to have a mechanic replace them, try doing it yourself. Read the manufacturer's booklet that arrived with your ATV - in many cases you can install your own shocks. It will save you on having to pay the price for the parts and labor to have them installed.
Pulling to one side is a sign your shocks need replacing, but can also be a sign of other problems. If you seem to be having trouble with your ATV pulling to one side are the other, there are few things you should check. First of all, it is important to take a look at your tire pressure. Because of the flexibility and softness of ATV tires, even a couple of pounds difference will affect the pull of your ATV. This is due to the expansion from the air pressure. More air in one tire of your ATV will unevenly distribute your ATV and push it in one direction. Whichever direction you find your ATV pulling, check the opposite back tire.
No matter what your parts needs are for your ATV, whether is it shocks or other works, Raceway now carries the ATV parts you need to keep your ATV in tip-top shape.

Five Great Ways To Protect Your ATV Riding Areas
The majority of ATV owners are responsible and environmentally conscious people. Despite what you might think, there are a few things that you can do to help in the fight to keep ATV riding areas in full bloom.
Number one: Get educated about the issues. Learn the truth about environmental issues. Take the time to learn more about this important issue. Ask community leaders, family; friends, or anyone who you think might have more information about ATV riding as it pertains to environmental issues. Use your Internet search engines to find more information about ATV land related matters.
Number two: Label one small part of the ATV riding land related issue to specialize yourself in. Don't inundate yourself with too many details of the entire issue. If you educate yourself on the entire ATV riding land related issue, but specialize in just one area, you will sound more intelligent, as well as being more productive.
Number three: Involve local government. Make a phone calls to your elected representatives. Feel free to ask your elected official several questions regarding ATV riding as it pertains to land related matters. If you feel funny about calling your elected official, bear in mind that it is their job as a public servant to uplift the public and let their voices be heard.
Number four: People really read the letters to the editor. Write a letter to send to your local newspaper. The editorial section of the newspaper is a great outlet to voice your concerns regarding land related matters for ATV riding. Don't make your letter long and drawn out. Keep it short, concise and informative. In this way thousands of people will see the information and most likely not an edited or trimmed down version. Number five: Join an ATV club. How To Seat An ATV Tire
Your ATV tires take a thrashing, it's just the nature of the sport, but when your tire comes off the rim or starts losing air while you're on a ride, you need to know how to properly seat your ATV tire so you don't get stranded.
Since ATV tires can be such a problem you should really be prepared by bringing some common tools with you. For this job you need: A small air compressor that has a quick release hose attachment, a webbed tie-down clamp and needle nose pliers.
To seat your ATV tire again you will need to take the rim completely off. You can try simply tilting your ATV if you have some help, but trails are notoriously uneven and if your ATV gives way, you could be seriously hurt. Better to take off the rim and play it safe.
Now using your webbed tie-down, wrap it all the way around the ATV tire and crimp it nice and tight. Next, remove the inside tire valve with needle nose pliers. Remember, "to the right is tight" so turn to the left. Using your air compressor, fill the tire with the quick release hose, and if you notice air is leaking anywhere around the rim, try tightening the crimp a little more.
Once you have the ATV tire properly seated again and no air seems to be leaking, quickly screw the valve back (righty-tighty) on the tire, and continue filling the ATV tire to the manufacturer recommended PSI.

Know Your Noise Regulation Laws For Your ATV
Among the rules and regulations that are strictly enforced, noise regulations are among the top of the list. The allowable noise limit depends upon what year your ATV was manufactured. For any ordinary ATV that was manufactured before January 1, 1986, the limit of noise decibels is 101. For any ordinary ATV Manufactured on or after January 01, 1986, the limit of noise decibels is only 96. The average decibel of a baby crying is 110 to give you an idea of how loud that many decibels is.
If you're ATV is considered a "competition" vehicle and it was manufactured before January 1, 1998, the decibels may reach up to 101. If your competition ATV was produced however, on or after January 01, 1998, the decibels still must be no more than 96.
An ATV is considered a "competition" vehicle only if the ATV was not manufactured under the standards of The California emission standards or to comply with the EPA noise standards. If you're interested in finding out the procedures of how testing is done, you can visit the website of California state parks off-highway vehicle recreation division at: www.ohv.parks.ca.gov.
Take the time to get yourself educated. By staying within the laws and regulations, your next ride on your ATV will be the best one yet!

Front Tire Wear on Your Motorcycle - How Can it Be Prevented?
While insufficient tire pressure probably leads to most tire wear on a motorcycle, there are other causative factors. Some issues can also cause your front tire to wear more on one side than the other. Here are some of the most common causes.
Wheel alignment may be a contributing factor. Routinely perform wheel maintenance on your motorcycle and it can head off some uneven wearing before it happens. Loading heavily only one saddlebag causes uneven wear. Be sure to distribute loads evenly between saddlebags on both sides of your motorcycle.
Roads are usually graded higher in the center than at the curb, so the side of your tire closest to the middle of the road wears a little faster. This is basically unavoidable, but really has its main affect on longer road trips when you spend a good deal of the time riding your motorcycle in one direction.
A weak front shock on one side can cause uneven front tire wear. Check your shocks periodically and replace as needed. When you ride motocross, your shocks will take a lot of wear and will need to be replaced often. Also, using your front brake excessively contributes to front tire wear.
As you can see, there are numerous factors that contribute to motorcycle wheel wear, some affecting both wheels, others having a greater affect on the front wheel. However, with some planning and a proper maintenance schedule, you can keep your wheels from experiencing uneven wear.

Making Motocross Safer For Your Child
Riding motocross is a very enjoyable sport and most children take to it like a fish takes to water. However, safety must be made the highest priority and there can be no exception.
When your child wants to ride motocross, before you run out and buy that bike, make sure your child is ready to ride. A child of 10 may possess far more responsibility in riding than another 12 year old. No one knows your child better than you; look objectively at your own child. No matter how badly they want to ride, ask yourself if your child can be responsible to look out for others when riding, pay attention and will practice good safety lessons.
Next, get the correct safety gear for your child. Get a good fitting helmet, goggles and full racing outfits. Don't skimp. Don't use a previously owned helmet. Helmets are good for one impact only and you wouldn't want to take the chance with your child's health whether or not that helmet has been used.
Then you are ready to purchase your bike. Make sure your child has a bike that fits their body. Don't get a bike for your child to "grow" into. You may be getting your child more motocross bike than he or she can handle. Let your child take lessons from a pro and learn proper riding techniques and safe practices.
Motocross teaches good sportsmanship, fair play and will bring a new level of maturity to most children. If your child is ready to ride - check out the selection of motocross bikes and accessories at Raceway where shipping is always free.

Tips For Beginning Dirt Bike and Motorcycle Riders
Riding a motorcycle or dirt bike is fun. When you first begin learning to ride a dirt bike, it's best to have a friend with you who already knows how and can show you the ropes of safe riding. First and foremost, ride slow until you learn proper controlling of the throttle and brakes and how to use them.
It's best to begin your first riding lesson in a wide flat field; this way there is less chance of running into someone or something. Now, here are some tips every beginning motorcycle dirt bike rider should keep in mind.
* Don't even get on a bike without a DOT approved helmet and goggles at the minimum and riding gloves and pads are a very smart idea.
* Slow and steady at first. It takes work to control a bike so don't give it full throttle or you may find yourself on the ground with the bike out in front of you.
* For best balance, sit forward on the seat right behind the tank. Do not allow your legs to hang loosely on either side of your bike.
* Don't take your feet off the pegs. Sticking your legs out to balance can get result in an injury.
* When going over bumps, raise your body a little off the seat to avoid getting saddle sore.
* Resist the urge to slam your brakes. You get a less jerky stop if you downshift first and let the motor rev down in a natural way. This will also help keep you from sliding out of control. Go for smooth and steady in your riding style and practice your throttle and braking techniques and you'll be hitting the trails in no time.

The Basics for Maintaining Your ATV
Your ATV needs regular care and maintenance in order to continue running properly. To insure your ATV has a long life, give your machine a regular once over and replace any worn parts before they become mechanical issues. Raceway now carries parts and replacing what you need is now more convenient than ever.
A good habit to get into is doing a pre-ride inspection. The great thing about learning to do basic maintenance is that once you get in the habit of doing it, you'll begin to catch little problems before they turn into big problems.
Look over your owner's manual for parts on your ATV that need to be lubricated, adjusted or checked for wear on a regular basis. A good rule of thumb is to check over screws and see if any need to be tightened.
Your tires will take a lot of use out on the ATV trails, make sure they are inflated properly and are in good condition with tread left on them. Don't ride your ATV with bald tires. Your ATVs forward motion depends on its ability to grip the terrain. If you are attempting to climb an incline and you don't have a good tread on your tires, you won't have a very good day of ATVing. Also, tire pressure must be equal on both sides or your ATV will pull to one side and might be mistaken for a shocks problem.
A little time spent on preventative maintenance will prevent you from sitting out a fun ride and getting the parts you need from Raceway makes maintaining your ATV easier than every.

Maintaining the Air Filter on Your Motorcycle or Dirt Bike
When you have a motorcycle or dirt bike, it is always important that you do everything that you can to take care of it. Proper maintenance is the key to ensuring that you will always have a good ride ahead of you. One of the things that you want to always be sure that you do to take care of your motorcycle or dirt bike is self-servicing of the air filter. There are several simple steps that you can do yourself to take care of this.
If you are looking to clean your air filter, you want to be sure that you start off by cleaning your bike and then removing both the air filter as well as the air box from the bike. Cleaning both of them is the only way to go. A high-pressure wash and a good soap such as the concentrated cleaning soaps offered by Raceway should do the trick with the air box, but with the filter you are probably going to want to check into using a solvent. A good solvent is the perfect thing to remove some of the gunk that can get stuck in the foam.
You are now ready for the next step and that is washing the filter. You can do this by simply using a good soap and some hot water. Once you have gotten all of the extra dirt out of the filter, you can then hang it up to dry thoroughly before the next step which is oiling the filter. When you are oiling the filter, you want to be sure to pour the oil in the filter from the inside out; always making sure it is completely covered. Now you are ready to reinstall the filter and you are ready to hit the tracks and trails again!
