ATV Trail Etiquette Made Easy
The number of ATVs sold for recreation is at an all-time high and the number is growing every year, there is a need for trail etiquette to ensure that everyone rides friendly and safely.
There has been an unspoken etiquette between ATV trail riders for years. But now that the popularity is beginning to grow and you are not required to have a license to ride your ATV in many states, more and more inexperienced ATV drivers are hitting the trails and causing danger to themselves and others that they may cross. This is why it is so important to review these few simple steps before taking your ATV out on trail.
What is etiquette? Even if you don't know the definition from Webster's dictionary, you probably already practice etiquette without even realizing it. Webster defines etiquette as, "the forms, manners, and ceremonies established by convention as acceptable or required in social relations." What exactly does all that mean? Basically to treat others the way you want to be treated.
Here are a few things to consider before your next excursion out on your ATV. First, prepare yourself for the trip. Not having spare tires, water, or a change of clothes can take all the enjoyment out of a trip and can be dangerous if you happen to get lost on an ATV ride. Second, help others who are in need. If someone is in need of help and needs to use your cell phone, let them use or offer to make the call for them. If someone appears lost, stop and offer directions. Be wary of wheel spinning for more than a few seconds. The results will be rocks and debris flying everywhere that could hit a fellow ATVer and cause injury if they aren't wearing the proper safety gear such as a riding jersey or goggles.
Third, no dusting others. This happens when you drive by a person on your ATV at speeds higher than 10MPH on a dusty road. It is hazardous to everyone behind you not to mention breathing dust is no fun. Next, no tailgating other ATV riders. Keep your distance or you may end up in an ATV accident. Just like when driving a car, keep a safe braking distance between yourself and the rider in front of you.
Be safe when passing on trail. Wait for the person in front of you to pull over as soon as he or she has the space. Last, don't litter. Those are the basics for friendly trail riding - use these tips often when you ride!

Utah ATV Clubs are Keeping Trail Awareness at the Forefront
Utah is a great state to own an ATV. There are a number of good groups you can join if you don't have anyone to ride your ATV with or you'd like to join a larger group to find more places to ride.
One such grouping in Southern Utah is the Southeastern Utah OHV Club (SUOC). SUOC is a non-profit organization located in Castledale, Utah and this group works hard to not only to keep the land rights for ATV/OHV riders but motorcycle enthusiasts as well.
There's a lot of misinformation and a few irresponsible people have threatened to take away a lot of riding areas that responsible ATVers have enjoyed for years. SUOC works hard to maintain a good public awareness about land issues so many of the ATV trails enjoyed by off-road enthusiasts will be around for everyone who loves to ride.
SUOC is involved in trail improvements and maintenance, ATV/OHV safety and trail etiquette awareness. They also are involved in political action regarding land decisions for all recreational vehicle riders. This group did extensive work rebuilding and managing several trails in the mountains around Southern Utah to show the good that can be done when responsible groups of ATV/OHV people get together.

Sedona Arizona Land of Vortexes and Great ATV Trails
Sedona Arizona was a very mystical place and the indigenous Indians of the area spoke of magical vortexes in which the Great Spirit would give them messages. People still come from all over the world in search of the vortexes and there are also a lot of great places to ride your ATV in Sedona. There are two main kinds of ATV terrain in Sedona, hard packed soil and loose, light sand. Make sure you have the right tires for the terrain and choose your ATV ride accordingly. You can ride your ATV in the Coconino National Forest or you can choose to take a guided tour around some of the areas that are off the beaten path in Sedona. If you choose to take an ATV tour, you will get a fully narrated tour and history of the area and bring your camera, as the panoramic views are incredible in Sedona.
The Coconino National Forest has designated areas for ATV riding and the trails are clearly marked so even the newest riders won't have a problem staying on the trail system. The National Forest will require that you have your ATV registered with the State of Arizona if you're a resident or you'll have to show your valid driver's license if you are visiting from another state. You must have a spark arrestor and muffler installed no matter what time of year your ride in the Coconino National Forest.
Most of the guided tours last 2 hours or less, if you're looking to make a day of your ATV outing - go for the self tour of the Coconino National Forest and enjoy the magic that Sedona Arizona holds for you.

Teaching Children Safe and Respectful Riding Habits
If you have a child who is an avid ATV rider, you want to teach your child proper etiquette for riding on his or her ATV. This is important not only for the environment but also for the safety of other riders as well as your child.
One of the first lessons you certainly want your child to learn regarding ATV riding, is to always wear their safety gear. Before getting on an ATV, even only as a passenger on a two seater ATV, they should always be wearing their safety gear. Another good lesson is to teach your children to never, ever ride recklessly. When a child is taught from the start to respect the land that he or she is riding on, your child will carry this reverence over into other aspects of his or her life.
Another very important lesson for children to learn is to obey all trail markers and closure signs. Trails may be closed for several reasons, and it should never be taken upon any one to decide that a closed trail is safe. Although it may not be obvious from first glance why a trail is closed, the trail has been closed for a very good reason. This may include something as simple as refuge to plants or wildlife, to something as dangerous as a possible fire hazard to ATV riders.
It is also important for children to learn to throw away garbage in specified receptacles. It is also a great idea to pick up any litter that you see, if there is not a trash receptacle around and you have the means to take it with you on your ATV please carry it to a proper trash bin. Teach your children to do their part to keep the trails nice.
By following these few simple rules, your child will make an excellent example of what ATV riding is all about.

Use Rat Dirt All Terrain Tires When Riding Your ATV On Government Trail
If you want a set of ATV front tires that will really dig in, get a pair of Rat Dirt tires and take your ATV to Colorado's Government Trail.
At just over 10 miles, the Government Trail is a good run for the ATV rider of moderate skill level. The trail opens during the summer and closes during the winter, and it is multi-use trail that has other ATVers, hikers, bikers and motorcyclists as well.
To get to the Government Trail, take Highway 82 for half a mile west of Aspen and then take a left into Maroon Creek road. Take a right once on the road and keep going until you get to Iselin Park. The ATV trail will be visible on the right in the back of the tennis court.
Once you are at the ATV trail, remember to practice good trail etiquette, even if someone else doesn't, make sure that you do and they might just learn something from your actions. Also, keep in mind to treat the land with respect, and do not deviate from the trail at any point or you risk a hefty fine that can rival the cost of your ATV.
The ATV trail begins at Maroon Creek and from there you tread across an old-fashioned wooden bridge and head into some steep terrain which will force you to climb upwards. Your Rat Dirt tires will really show their stuff on this part of the ATV trail.
This is the hardest part of this ATV trail. After the steep climb, the rest of this trail should be pretty smooth for the average ATV rider. From there you will guide your ATV over a changing environment that includes beautiful aspen, thick pines, and simply picturesque meadows full of ripe flowers. Keep in mind that this ATV trail isn't a loop so once you're at the end make sure you have a car shuttle waiting or a ride back because the trail is only one way.

Using Your Rat Dirt ATV Tires
Rat Dirt ATV Tires are front tires and they have been completely redesigned to give you the maximum grip and grab of the terrain when you ride.
The Four Seasons Resort in Western Pennsylvania is a great place to put these tires to the test as the terrain here is a little loose and many ATV tires have a hard time going back and forth from the switch in terrain from loose gravel to hard packed dirt. Four Seasons has a few rules to ride your ATV on their trails and include that you must wear your safety equipment at all times when operating your ATV and no ATVers under the age of 14 are allowed to ride at the resort unattended, and the speed on the trails is limited to 10MPH.
Your Rat ATV Tires are made from tough 2-ply nylon casings and have reinforced and elongated knobs that will increase your control and handling of your ATV no matter which type of terrain you're riding on. Furthermore the natural rubber compound these sturdy tires are constructed from is puncture resistant and has an increased tread life.
Before riding the Four Seasons will ask that you have a noise muffler installed on your ATV as the decibel limit for the area is 94 maximum. A baby's average cry is about 100 decibels to give you an idea of how loud that is. You will also have to show proof of insurance.
You will be asked to purchase a $25 yearly permit or $10 permit per bike per continuous stay, good up to two weeks and all riders must sign a waiver before riding. Additionally, you must be a guest of the resort.
If you're ready to break in your Rat Dirt ATV Tires in a new and fun location that will challenge your riding skills, take a trip to The Four Seasons Resort and let your wheels go wild!

Overnight on Your Next ATV Outing
The weather is getting nicer and if you've only taken your ATV on day trips with your favorite group of riding buddies, it might be time to consider extending your day of ATVing in to an overnight stay or even a long weekend.
Many ATV trails now allow camping but not directly on the trails, normally there are designated campsites. With the knowledge that you don't have to stop and make your back to the trailhead to pack up your ATV for the evening and fortunately will allow you to ride longer with your friends and pull over when you've had your fun for the day and enjoy a great evening together.
Additional benefits to camping during your ATV trip are that you not only get to ride the ATV trails longer, but you also will be riding them safer. If you aren't fatigued, you aren't as likely to make a mistake when you're riding your ATV and rider fatigue is the second biggest cause of injuries on an ATV. The first cause is riding an ATV under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Most ATV trails allow you to have small campfires in the designated camping area. Enjoy a campfire meal with your friends and hash out your favorite ATV stories. It is important to follow the "Leave No Trace" standards and if you bring it in, bring it out with you. There should be no trace of your campsite when you and your ATV buddies leave. This applies to campfires too, make sure after the fire is absolutely doused, to scatter the ashes and make sure there is no trace of your having been there.
Now that you know the basics, consider making your next ATV outing an overnighter with your friends!

Must Have Items for an Overnight ATV Trip
If you've never overnighted on an ATV outing before, you're in for a real treat. It only takes a little planning and organization to ensure you have a great time camping out and riding with your friends.
Make sure you have a little toolbox and a first aid kit with the basics on your ATV when you're riding. Having a few tools and an extra spark plug or two can save your entire trip.
Next, think about comfort when sleeping; bring a tent and a sleeping bag for yourself and a tarp will usually suffice nicely for your ATV and gear. Also, consider food and water. Water is a must when you're riding. Dehydration can make you ill and lead to fatigue which is one of the biggest causes of preventable accidents. A small cooler will protect your food from curious animals and don't forget your personal items such as your toothbrush and toothpaste, a couple of wash cloths, soap, some towels, deodorant, change of clothing and if it is early or late in the riding season, some clothing to layer for the cooler mornings and nights. You will need some cleaning items for keeping your camping area neat and tidy. Some of these items are a broom, some rags, dishpan, etc. Before you go for a long weekend on your ATV, give your machine the once over and make sure it's in good shape for the ride. A little preventative maintenance will save you a large repair bill on your ATV when you check it often for little things like screws that need to be tightened, spark plugs, brakes in good order, chain lubed and other routine items.
Last but certainly not least, bring a bag to put your trash and other refuse in. Keeping your camping area better then when you arrived will ensure everyone has a great place to come camp and ride in the future.

The North Elk ATV Trail offers a lush view and a nice ride that is sure to please all ATVers with the outstanding, panoramic views and lush, natural setting.
At only four miles long, the North Elk ATV Trail isn't the longest trail in the world, but it is very nice, especially considering how secluded it is. Open from May until November, the North Elk ATV Trail is open to all sorts of traffic, from ATVs to snowmobiles, so be aware you may encounter other types of riders on this trail.
To get to the North Elk ATV Trail from Meeker, head east onto State Highway 13 for about one mile and then make a right on County Road 8 for about 20 miles until you reach the Ford New Castle Road. Once you have reached this road, take a right and keep going for around 11 miles until you get to the North Elk ATV Trail. The trail is somewhat hard to find because there are not any markers, but follow these directions and you should not have too much trouble finding it.

Riding the North Elk ATV Trail is an ATV adventure you are sure to remember for a long time.

Physically Challenged ATV Riding
An ATV can be a great experience for anyone who is physically challenged. It is difficult to find recreation that is both a fun and something to do outdoors. Fortunately, ATV riding happens to fall into both of those categories for the disabled. There are more and more groups that exclusively work with the physically challenged and make riding ATVs even more friendly. Founded in Wisconsin, the Adaptive Sportsman group has begun organizing many gatherings and trips for their members who also happen to be physically challenged.
People who are ordinarily wheelchair bound are finally able to ride the trails of OHV trail system via ATVs, thanks to Adaptive Sportsman. The ride begins at Pine Forest Lodge that is not only wheelchair accessible, but also offers specified activities for those who are disabled including canoeing, fishing, and kayaking.
For those who are disabled, ATVs are considered a wonderful "equalizer" to the able bodied. When riding an ATV, a disabled person who would not ordinarily get to see nature and woodsy areas are now able to with as much ease as anyone else. With the use of a simple automatic shift hand shift and foot controls attached to the handbars, an ATV can be modified very simply so that disabled riders can easily use these ATVs. Many disabled people aren't even aware that they are able to use an ATV, which is what makes Adaptive Sportsman such a valuable group.
For some people with disabilities, they may find that the enormous amount of freedom that riding an ATV provides is fantastic! Plus learning to handle an ATV builds self-confidence in the disabled and leads to better self-esteem. Disability does not equal incapability. The ATV is a great equalizer among all people. If you're interested in obtaining Adaptive Sportsman Parts for your ATV, contact Raceway and they can get them for you- and shipping is always free!

Getting Maximum Enjoyment Out of Riding Your ATV
ATVs started out as work machines. Many people originally got ATVs to help them around their farms and homes with hauling and getting around large properties. Then it expanded to other people get ATVs to take them fishing or hunting. In certain States, North Dakota for example, an ATV is the one and sole way you may collect your game (including deer) if you're bow hunting.
Then came the recreational riders and there is a large group of people that is growing every year who ride ATVs simply because it is a way to get out an enjoy nature. ATVing is a great way to make family bonds stronger and enjoy a weekend of riding together.
Even the newest of ATVers can keep up on a trail ride and most areas that offer up public riding lands, have different levels of ATV trail systems so you can plan your trail riding to meet the skills of all riders in your group.
ATVing also comes with valuable lessons for your kids. It will teach them to read maps, and if you use GPS, how to read latitude and longitude. It will also teach them very valuable thinking ahead skills. Looking carefully at the terrain ahead and knowing whether or not they can ride it is a good skill for kids to learn early on as it can be applied to situations throughout their lives by asking "What happens if I......."
If you have a newer ATVer along for the ride an easy way to ensure that no one gets lost or left behind when you're riding single file on ATV trails, is to not go forward until the person behind you catches up. That way everyone gets to enjoy a leisurely day of ATVing and no one has to feel frustrated or rushed and won't have the possibility of getting lost. Some trails are so densely foliaged they block out the sun and it can be quite dark in some areas of the forests even at straight up noon. Therefore, it can be easy to get turned around with your directions, always carry a map with your when you ride.
ATVs have made life easier for farmers, hunters, and fisherman. ATVs have made outdoors activities more fun for recreational riders. Get the best ATV for your needs and hit the trails with your favorite group of riding buddies this weekend!

You probably have a gun rack in your home and on your truck, so why not install a gun rack on your ATV, too? ATV gun racks will cushion your gun with complete shock absorption. Use V-Trax Dirt ATV Tires at Grand Canyon Country
Once you get a set of V-Trax Dirt ATV Tires on your machine, you'll be dying to break them in an Grand Canyon Country is the perfect destination. This is exactly the type of terrain your ATV was meant to roll on. Your V-Trax tires will provide good grip on both dirt and sandy riding conditions and you are likely to encounter both on this ATV ride.
Grand Canyon Country has a lot to offer up in the way of a day of good riding. If your time allows it, there is so much to see in this area, you can camp out and make it a full weekend of ATVing, as there are full facilities and meals available at the ranch.
Using the Bar 10 ranch as a center point, you will have over 5000-miles of dirt roads to explore on your ATV! The Arizona Strip is all of the area located between the Colorado River and the Utah border, and is a scenic ride on your ATV.
Most of the ATV trails are designed with the recreational ATVer in mind, there are a number of ATV trails that will require the technical skill of an experienced rider, but most will just offer up a great day of riding. If you are riding in the summer, be sure to pack along some extra water as the temperatures can average over 100-degrees and more. The prime time to ride your ATV on these trails is mid-March through May, and then October through early December.
These terrain conditions are ideal for using your ATV outfitted with V-Trax tires. You'll get a great grip on the dirt and many ATVers report smoother handling of their machines when using these tires.
One place you don't want your V-Trax tires to take you on your ATV is too close to any of the very large number of old mine shafts in this area. Parashant Canyon has a number of them on their ATV trail. Look only as your ride past but don't enter. Not only are the mines unsafe and could collapse, there are pockets of gas at various places in the mines and the gas will make you pass out and perhaps even end your life before you could get out of the mine. So when riding past mines - keep riding and let your V-Trax tires take you safely along your way.

This is a challenging ride that isn't technically difficult but it's full of dirt for your tires to grab on the hills and valleys. The area with the ATV trails is very undeveloped, somewhat eroded and if it has been raining, you will find a lot of standing water in the lower lying areas. The freedom of places to ride your ATV is another great feature about Somerville Lake. No permit is required to ride your ATV however safety gear is required. The undeveloped terrain makes for a very fun ride and your Fox ATV Tires will be there every step of the way. The natural rubber compound of these tires makes the tires even more puncture resistant and gives them an increased tread life.
Only 3 and 4 wheel ATVs are allowed on these trails. You will also be sharing the ATV trails with motorcycle riders. There is a width limit for ATVs and currently it is 70". This ATV area is only open from dawn until dusk and there is currently no camping allowed.
When you have Fox XTR Dirt ATV tires your ATV will really grip the trail and the radial construction will result in a smoother ride, even on underdeveloped trails like these.
Maps are available, and even though this is not a large ATV riding area, since the terrain is so raw, it would be a good idea to get a map to insure you don't get lost on a trail that is too difficult for your riding experience level. If you want to really break in your new Fox XTR Dirt ATV Tirs, challenge them at Somerville Lake.

It's ATVs Only at Finger Lakes State Park
Finger Lakes State Park is a great place to take your ATV in Missouri. There is a great trail system that is managed by the Bureau of Land Management. The only off-road vehicle (ORV) types that are allowed to ride the trails in Finger Lakes State Park are restricted to all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and motorcycles.
They have a few rules in place for riding your ATV in Finger Lakes State Park. You many only have one person per ATV; no passengers are permitted under any circumstances. There is a Youth Riding Area that was set-aside for ATVers under the age of 12 so they can ride their ATVs with adult supervision. A helmet that meets the DOT standards for safety and eye protection in the form of goggles is a must. A chin length visor on your helmet will no longer suffice as meeting the eye protection requirement.
If you are bringing your children to the Finger Lakes State Park, they are welcome to ride the ATV trails with you, but any ATVer under the age of 16 must have adult supervision at all times when trail riding and riding the ATV trails alone is not permitted.
You will need to get a permit for a day of riding in Finger Lakes; the Rangers will inspect your ATV to insure that the brakes are working properly and that you have a spark arrestor and muffler installed. The decibel limit for noise from your ATV is 86 decibels.
With its many creeks to cross and scenic beauty, Finger Lakes is a great day of ATVing, just know the ropes for doing it safely and within the limits of the rules and regulations and you'll avoid a costly ticket and have a super time on the ATV trails with your friends and family.

Riding Your ATV At Dry Creek Trail
Located in southwest Colorado, the Dry Creek Trail is an ideal trail for experienced ATV enthusiasts. Once called the Old Dry Creek Stock Driveway, this ATV trail is just over 12 miles long trail was once mainly used by farmers to transport animals. This is much less common now, as farmers prefer more modernized routes, and you are unlikely to encounter any of them while riding your ATV on the trail.
Getting to Dry Creek is easy. Take Highway 15 for 2 miles, and then take a right on County Road 2 south. Take this road for about 3.5 miles, make a right turn at the fork, drive for 3 miles and take a right at the intersection at Dry Creek and drive for 4 miles until you get to the ATV trailhead.
Your ATV adventure at Dry Creek Trail begins in a lush country area and you steadily begin to climb up towards the Peak of Bennett Mountain, which has an elevation of about 13,000 feet.
While riding your ATV on Dry Creek Trail you will get access to some simply amazing views of the area around you. However, due both to the high elevation and the rocky nature of the trail you must be a very experienced ATV rider as this is a difficult and challenging ride and most definitely not for beginners.
Ride this trail with a buddy and make sure you tell others where you're going in case you need help. This is one exciting ATV trail to ride and just remember to be safe and have fun riding your ATV at Dry Creek!

The Dodgeton ATV trail can be found in South Central Colorado, about twelve miles south of La Veta. This trail is barely over 3 miles in length and is part of the San Isabel National Forest. As with most National Forest lands, these are multi-use trails and you will be sharing them with people who are biking, hiking, horseback riding, motorcycle riding and more.
The Dodgeton ATV Trail begins at the trailhead of Spring Creek, which contains restroom facilities as well as a parking lot for convenient loading and unloading of your ATV. The trail is of very easy to moderate difficulty, offering up a slight challenge for the beginning ATV rider, but it should be a piece of cake for more experienced riders. You will have to cross Dodgeton Stream drainage at two points in the trail, which is the most challenging aspect of this ATV trail.
If 3.5 miles just isn't enough ATV trail for you, the Dodgeton ATV Trail joins with the Indian Creek, Baker, and Shortcut trails at various points to offer you further terrain to explore.
You will be able to loop the routes with these trails while riding your ATV, so finding your way back to the trailhead should not be a problem. Have fun riding the Dodgeton ATV Trail!

Choosing Brake Pads for Your ATV
Raceway can get you any part or accessory you need for your ATV. Even if you didn't purchase your ATV from Raceway, they can get the parts or accessories you want for your machine.
Choosing the right brake pads for your ATV can seem daunting. There are many different types of brake pads for available for ATVs, made from various different types of materials and customized for different types of riding.
Organic brake pads are excellent for stopping your ATV in extreme riding conditions such as very wet or muddy terrain. Organic ATV pads are also very easy on rotors, however, if you do get them muddy or sandy and you don't clean them, they will have a very short life span. Dirty organic pads can fail in less than a month if you ride a lot and fail to check the wear and dirt accumulated on them from dirty and sandy trail conditions.
Full Metallic brake pads are another type of pad used for ATVs. Full Metallic ATV brake pads will not hold up very well against mud or wetness, but they are extremely durable and will last in your ATV a very long time and do very well in dirt and sandy terrain conditions.
Yet another type of material used for ATV brake pads is Semi-Metallic. Semi-Metallic brake pads and great in normal conditions, but they will give your ATV a lot of hassle in muddy or wet terrain. However, they are durable and will last in your ATV for at least a riding season or longer if you keep them maintained.
Take note of the terrain you ride on the most and then get the brake pads most suited to your riding style. Raceway can get the brake pads you need and shipping is always free!

When You Need New Tires For Your ATV
Raceway now carries a full line of ATV tires for both dirt and sandy terrain conditions. If you want to upgrade your tires, but you aren't sure what type of tire would be best for your ATV, here are a few tips for choosing the best tire for your needs.
The first step in buying a new set of tires for your ATV is to determine what size your current tires are. This should be marked on the tires, but if it is not, just get a ruler and bend down under your ATV and measure the width of the tires. Write it down and then check out the selection that Raceway has put together for you.
Once you have got the size or measurement of your ATV tires, it is time to decide what type of tire you want. There are flat ATV tires, round tires, and various different kinds to treads available.
The majority of ATV riders prefer flat tires to round because round tires do not generally handle turns as well. Another thing to consider while choosing tires for your ATV is whether your want a small tire or a bigger tire. Small ATV tires offer more support for fast speeds, but they lack much clearance. Bigger ATV tires will allow for much more clearance and will give you more of a smooth and steady ride, but they are not equipped for higher speeds. There are great designs in tires for riding on gravel or hard packed dirt conditions such as the Swamp Fox and the Blackwidow Dirt ATV Tires. The Rat Dirt ATV tires are for the front wheels only and give a great grip.
If riding the sand dunes is more to your liking, check out the Diamond Trak ATV tires and the Blacktail Sand ATV tires. Both have a large groove running down the middle for extra maneuverability. If traction is what you want in the sand Aerospeed Sand Tires, Sidewinder and Sand Snake ATV tires are all great options.
Check out the full line at Raceway and improve your ride with better tires today!

Safety starts with the ATV rider. To begin with, wear all of the proper gear necessary when you ride your ATV. Also, never show off or mess around while on your ATV. There is nothing wrong with a group of friends riding ATVs together, in fact that is one of the best ways to ride; but do not try to do any stunts that you know you are not capable of and do not try to ride on any terrain that you know you don't have the handling skills to tackle on your ATV. Some essential ATV advice that shouldn't be an issue to never ride your ATV or ride with anyone who is under the influence of drugs or alcohol. When people do drugs and drink alcohol, their judgment can be impaired and they may or may not be able to comprehend what is good judgment when riding their ATVs. Drugs, alcohol and ATV riding are three things that don't go together -ever.
Riding safe also includes following designated trails and not going trailblazing. A little respect for the land when you're riding your ATV will go a long way to keeping your favorite trails and ATV riding areas open. Damage to the terrain is the number one reason that ATVs get denied access to certain areas is due to a few irresponsible riders not staying on trail. Irresponsible riding practices affect everyone. Ride responsibly and ride safe when you ride your ATV and you'll be assured of a great time on the trails!

Choosing an ATV for your Child
If your kids have been asking for an ATV, you have probably been doings some research on the web and you have most likely run into a few stories about children having accidents on ATVs. Sadly, the majority of these accidents could have been prevented through proper wearing adequate safety gear and following operating instructions for the ATV.
While it is true and ATV can be dangerous when used by people who have no idea of the operating or safety basics of riding an ATV, the majority of ATVers are well informed and safety minded people.
If you feel your child is ready for an ATV, talk to them extensively about ATV safety, it can't be stressed enough. Talk about safety gear, safe-riding practices, tell them to be aware of what the other person on the trails or ATV riding area is doing. Talking about safety on their ATV will help keep safe riding practices in the forefront of their mind.
Get your child the right size ATV. For kids under the age of 12 the ATV you purchase should be under 70cc. ATVs that are in the range of 70cc to 90cc are most appropriate for children ages 12 to 16. Shifting is difficult for many kids to get the hang of at first, so it is a good idea to get an automatic ATV for your kid to learn to ride, so they don't have bother with shifting gears when they're just starting out riding their ATVs.
ATV safety classes are fantastic for kids to get a jumpstart on riding their ATVs. As every parent knows, your kids will take advice from someone they don't even know and ignore their parent saying the same thing. Sign your child up for an ATV safety-riding course. They will learn safe maneuvering and safety tips for every type of riding. Additionally, they will receive a certificate of completion they will need to show when riding on most federally managed lands (like National Forests).
