Tips for Storing Your Snowmobile

Tips for Storing Your Snowmobile

Storing your snowmobile the right way is important. If you do not do certain things for your snowmobile before you let it sit for a long period of time, many of it's parts may not function as well as they should. In this article we will show you some basic maintenance techniques you can employ on your snowmobile that will make sure it performs at optimum potential when you take it out of storage.

You should store your snowmobile in a place that is cool and dry, as harsh or wet environments may cause it to rust or be damaged in some other way. It is highly recommended that you cover your snowmobile with a porous cover, as this will protect it from being tarnished by dust. Before you store the snowmobile, wash it thoroughly to get off all of the corrosive acids, dirts and salts that may be on it. It is also highly recommended that you drain any remaining gasoline out of your snowmobile. You can do this by taking the float bowl away from the carburetors and making them empty, or by running the engine while the fuel is turned off.

It is recommended that you spray all of the metal parts of your snowmobile with special storing oil, as this will help preserve these parts. It is also a good idea to take your snowmobile's track off of the floor and put the skis on top of a 2x4 or equivalent board. Doing this is good for your snowmobile because it will let air get into the area under the track and will prevent it from rotting.

Your snowmobiling emergency kit should contain a tool kit for minor repairs, waterproof matches, some spark plugs, a pair of straps, flares, a drive belt, an extra copy of your ignition key, a sharp knife, a good working flashlight and an extra pair of new batteries for the light and a compass.

Other essential items for your snowmobiling emergency kit include; a thermal blanket, bandages, a batch of gauze no smaller than two inches, alcohol pads, antibiotic ointment, adhesive tape and scissors. What are Some Items to Take on a Snowmobiling Excursion?

There are many items that are simply essential for any snowmobiling excursion. Most of the items that you would want to take with you on a snowmobiling trip would be safety equipment, though there are other less important things that you may want to take with you as well. In this article we will recommend some items that we feel are essential to any snowmobiling trip. Some of these items may seem like no-brainers, but it is better to be safe than sorry.

Obviously, one of the most important items you should have with you while snowmobiling is your helmet and other safety gear. This is certainly a must have item, but it is worth repeating. Some other essential items for your snowmobiling excursion include; bandages, waterproof matches, a thermal blanket, a batch of gauze no smaller than two inches, antibiotic ointment, alcohol pads, adhesive tape and scissors. Some other good items to have with you while you are snowmobiling would be a tool kit for minor repairs, a pair of straps, flares, a drive belt, spark plugs, a second copy of your snowmobile's ignition key, a knife with a sharp blade, a flashlight that is in good working condition, an extra pair of new batteries for the flashlight and a compass.

It is also a good idea to take your cell phone with you, in case something happens and you need to call for help. All of the items that you bring along with you on your snowmobiling trip should be kept in a container that is waterproof so the items do not get harmed or damaged by the weather. Because of this same reason it is recommended that you do not bring any liquids that could freeze, as they will be rendered useless. In case of an emergency it is a good idea to always go on snowmobiling trips with a friend, as they may be able to help if something goes wrong.

Riding the Orofino Area Snowmobile Trails

Riding the Orofino Area Snowmobile Trails

The Orofino Area snowmobile trails are located in the Clearwater National Forest which contains over 1.8 million acres and holds a variety of terrain such as the Bitterroot Mountains, river canyons, and the hills of the Palouse Prairie. This area literally has something for everyone.

Besides snowmobiling, there is also a large selection of fishing from both the resident and migratory fish that make their way through the rivers. This is wild terrain with lots of wildlife such as deer, elk, black bear, gray wolf, cougars, and mountain goats. Be careful when snowmobiling as you may disturb one of these potentially dangerous creatures.

Before heading out on the trail for a day of snowmobiling, give your snowmobile the once over and make sure that your snowmobile is in top working order. Next, always wear your safety gear, this includes a helmet, goggles and gloves at the very least. Be sure to dress in layers to keep your body warmth. Be sure to stay on the designated snowmobile trails; to get off a trail can either get you lost or handed a ticket. Most snowmobile trails are only open for set periods of time during the riding season and then those trails are closed and others reopened, to allow the terrain to have a rest from riders and reclaim itself.

The canyons in the Clearwater National Forest have been travel corridors for centuries, originally used by the Nez Perce Indians. Lewis and Clark also traveled through these canyons on their expedition in 1805. Today, the canyons hold highway 12, which is a main travel route for us today. This highway offers dramatic and beautiful views of the Clearwater River and the Lochsa River.

Should your kids take snowmobiling classes?

Should your kids take snowmobiling classes?

So, you're wondering whether or not enrolling your kids in some snowmobiling classes is a good idea. Well, to answer your question, it certainly is a good idea, and in some areas you legally have to. Even if it is not required by law, it is important that our kids understand the real gravity and dangers involved in snowmobiling. You shouldn't go out of your way to scare them really bad, but they should understand that it is very important that they follow all of the safety rules, and taking snowmobiling classes is one of the best ways for them to learn the rules.

After your kid has taken snowmobiling classes, it is essential that you enforce the rule both verbally and as a role model. If you tell you kid to follow the safety rules, but you do not do so yourself, chances are that your child is much less likely to do so either. It is simply crucial to your kid's health that you practice and enforce all of the necessary rules. Make sure your kid wears a proper snowmobiling helmet, and make sure they wear other essential safety gear too, such as goggles, chest protections, and clothing that covers their arms and legs.

It is also important that you supervise them whenever they are snowmobiling. Making sure your kid is safe is your number one job, so keep your eyes on them at all times. Never let them stray very far away from you, and keep an emergency kit handy at all times. Only travel on groomed snowmobiling trails with your kid, as harsher trails pose more of a threat. Snowmobiling is fun for the whole family, but remember to be safe!

Basic Snowmobile Riding Tips

Basic Snowmobile Riding Tips

There are certain tips that every rider should follow while they are snowmobiling. In this article we will touch on some of these basic rules and tips of snowmobile riding. Some of these thing might sound like common sense, and they are. But it is always good to remind yourself of certain rules you understand the true gravity of the situation.

To begin with, you should always use moderate speed while snowmobiling. Do not ride your snowmobile at excessive and illegal speeds. Doing so is not only dangerous to you, but it is dangerous to others. It is also a good idea to never overload your snowmobile. Some snowmobiles can carry a passenger, yet many are made for one rider only. Learn what kind of snowmobile you have, and do not exceed the limit while snowmobiling, as this may cause safety hazards such as arms and legs that are hanging, and the weight may harm your machine as well.

It is also heavily recommended that you do not let anyone else ride your snowmobile. Someone may claim to be an expert rider, but you have no way of knowing, and if they get in a snowmobiling accident with your vehicle, you will be held somewhat legally responsible. Another good snowmobiling tip is to always wear your safety gear. Keep your helmet, goggles, chest protections and other safety attire on at all times while snowmobiling, as these things could prevent serious harm to your body in the event of an injury. Also, remember to pack a snowmobiling safety kit. Be sure to follow these basic snowmobiling tips, and have fun riding.
