Yuma Duners ATV Club Digs In

If nothing else gives you quite the thrill of riding your ATV in the sand, then you ought to check out the Yuma Duners. This group is devoted to preserving ATVer's rights to ride established trails.

Currently, the club is participating with the American Sand Association to regain the right to ride in areas that have temporarily been designated off limits. A local plant known as Pierson's milk vetch was believed to be endangered, leading to it's listing a threatened species. However, a scientific survey is about to get underway to determine if this is really the case and if the affected sand ATV trails may safely be reopened.

The next event on the Yuma Duners list is the Annual Martin Luther King Weekend Cleanup. This event is more than just a cleanup, it's an entertaining and fun way to spend time with your ATVing pals. There will be prizes raffled off to participants and a free lunch on this January 14th event.

The Yuma Duners love to have fun, but they also have a healthy respect for safety practices while riding the sandy ATV trails. Most important, always stay with your group and never ride your ATV alone. It's too easy to stop and not be seen by the next group coming up the dunes until it's too late. An ATV collision is a quick way to ruin a perfectly nice trail ride.

If you're interested in becoming a member of the Yuma Duners ATV club, check out their website at: http://www.yumaduners.com/index.php

You may just wind up ATVing with a whole new set of sand enthusiasts!

White Mountain Open Trails Association

White Mountain Open Trails Association is dedicated to protecting our lands while improving available riding ATV trails. They maintain a helpful website with ATV trail tips and maps and links to other ATV associations.

The Navajo County ATV Roughriders Club is a prominent member of the White Mountain Open Trails family. This club is currently working to expand it's membership in hope of developing an ATV trail park in their area.

This ATV club has some lofty goals. First, they are striving to educate ATV riders about trail rules and etiquette to head off the usual problems associated with irresponsible riding, such as trash and trespassing on private lands.

Next, the club is working hard to keep the lines of communication open between state legislators, private land owners, and ATV enthusiasts in an effort to promote a positive relationship that should help preserve the privelege of off road riding.

The Navajo County ATV Roughriders also organize volunteer projects to help clear and maintain trails, including brush and fallen tree removals, keeping the trails open for all ATV enthusiasts.

Currently, the club is preparing to take registrations for the 2006 Arizona ATV Outlaw Trail Jamboree. The first two years of this ATV event have been a resounding success and 2006 should be even greater. The club is also putting together a work party to install signs for the new Cross District Trail.

If you'd like to join up, just go to: http://www.wmota.org/Index.html for more info.

Happy trails!

Western Massachusetts ATV Association

The Western Massachusetts ATV Association Is a very active and fun loving group of ATV aficionados who are dedicated to promoting the ATV sport in a positive.

This is a very active club with many events throughout the year. One of this year's highlights was Family Day, where riders met to picnic and enjoy two days of perfect weather for ATVing the trails. The club also held a Poker Run, with terrific prizes for the winners donated by various sponsors. Again, good weather was a blessing and everyone had a blast! The club even raffled off a 2005 Polaris Sportman 400 ATV.

The Western Massachusetts ATV Association, as part of the Berkshire Trails Council, has made a commitment to provide service hours to help maintain ATV trails in the five Western Massachusetts State Forests. Without this dedicated effort, the trails would likely be closed to off road adventuring.

However, just because it's work doesn't mean it can't be fun, and volunteers also get to enjoy a lunch, and a poker run too. This all makes for a very satisfying day on the trails. The club encourages non-members to come participate in this activity as well. Hopefully once newbies meet the members and become accustomed with these trails, they'll want to join the club too.

Go ahead and check out the club's website at: http://www.westernmassatv.org/nonmember/index.html.

Who knows, you may just wind up making some of the best friends of your life!

United Riders ATV Club Of Maryland

Concerned with the negative stereotyping that plagues the ATV sport, The United Riders ATV Club of Maryland decided they would try to change the perception that ATV riders are irresponsible trespassers who really don't care about the impact they have on the environment, as long as they are free to ride.

The United Riders ATV Club clearly states that their mission is to ' ride safely, have fun, and keep peace with those that allow us to ride on their properties'. To this extent, the club obtains written permission for the lands that they ride on, and challenges other ATV enthusiast to do the same.

This ATV club rides most weekends during the regular season. The group usually meets at a predetermined location, and the number of riders who show up determines which ATV trails they'll ride that day. United Riders always keep safety foremost in mind, so big groups will only ride on ATV trails large enough to accommodate them. But be prepared for a real ride because club members say they usually cover 45 miles on an average ride.

The club maintains a photo album on their website, so you can get a feel for how large the groups usually are and the types of terrains they like to ride. And ladies, this is not just another boys club. The website features a couples page complete with photos and it's own motto: ATV chicks make the ride better!

Tips On Turning On A Motorcycle

One thing that could be really dangerous for a driver with little experience is turning suddenly when you are riding a motorcycle. In order to ride safely, this should be one of the first things that you learn when you start to ride. Because of the unpredictable nature of the roads, it is best that you have turning tips under your belt so that you may react within seconds.

To begin with, you should really take a motorcycle course that teaches you all of the tips and tricks of riding as well as all of the necessary safety precautions that you need to take. When you are out on your motorcycle, you should always remain alert so that you are able to allow yourself enough reaction time so that you can safely maneuver out of harms way. You can start by always keeping your eyes on the road and watching for any possible hazards or unpredictable drivers on the road with you.

If you do happen to encounter a situation where you have to turn suddenly, be sure that you remain calm. Holding your feet firmly on the foot pegs can give you a strong balance that can help you steer your way out of trouble. Hit your rear brake to begin with and then start to slow down using both brakes. When you are ready to make the quick turn, be sure and let off the brakes while you lean into the turn. Swerve quickly and be sure to immediately correct yourself remembering to accelerate a little bit when finished turning so that you may hold your balance. Following these simple steps could save your life when having to make a sudden turn on your
motorcycle.

Transporting Your Motorcycle Properly

If you ride a motorcycle, at one time or another you may be faced with the task of having to transport your bike. You want to be sure that you take every precaution when loading your motorcycle for carrying by another
vehicle. It is important that the motorcycle does not hinder the use of all of your signal lights as well as your headlights, brakes and taillights.

For towing your motorcycle in the front of your vehicle, you want to be sure that you follow all of the guidelines that are recommended for this type of transporting. You have to be sure that under no circumstances, any part of your motorcycle sticks out more than three feet beyond the bumper area. For the same method, you also have to be certain that the motorcycle does not reach out further than the left fender at all. As far as the right fender, the
motorcycle should not reach out any further than 6 inches. Both of these guidelines are to obviously ensure safety of other vehicles as well as yourself when you are on the road. Protrusions could be very dangerous and could potentially cause a very severe accident.

When you are connecting your motorcycle for towing, it is key that you secure it to the towing vehicle in more ways than one. It is best that you use added protection to your towing device with some type of a cable or chain. Make sure that the motorcycle does not interfere with your view in any way at all, and you should be off to safely transport your bike.

Being Respectful Of Other Peoples Property When ATVing

If you are out and about riding on your ATV, you want to be sure that you do everything in your power to respect the land and property that surround you. For many years now, ATVers have been getting a bad name for being
ill-mannered and disrespectful of the area that they ride on. You should take caution and pay attention to the land around you so that you do not disrupt nature or any personal property of others.

Digging up the land is a terrible thing to do when you are out on your ATV. You can avoid this by not riding through some areas with softer terrain such as meadows, streams and certain steep hills. Along the same lines, you should also be careful if you are riding on populated dirt roads. If you end up damaging roads such as this and you get caught, it could cost you quite a bit of money to fix them.

Nature is very important, and all ATVers should take special precaution when you are traveling along through wooded areas. If you end up running over small plant life such as new trees and shrubs, you will surely damage them
possibly to the point of killing them. Along with nature goes the wildlife. You always need to respect the animals that life in the wild and should take care when you encounter them out on the trails.

Be sure that you always ask for permission when you want to ride your ATV through privately owned areas. Also, if an area is marked off, you should always obey the signs. Paying attention to all of these things will show people that you are a cautious and respectful ATV rider.

Riding In Wet Or Icy Weather

When you are a motorcyclist, it is always important that you think of riding safety in adverse weather. Particularly with wet or icy road conditions, riders need the proper information and tips to help avoid possible accidents for their safety as well as other people who are on the road. Having the proper safety knowledge could mean the difference between life and death.

If you keep some very basic yet important steps in mind when you are riding, you are one step closer to staying as safe as possible. It is always best to avoid slippery spots if you can, and remember to reduce your speed if wet or slippery spots are unavoidable. Reducing your speed around corners is also another good tip because it is obviously a bit harder to stop on those surfaces especially when you are rounding a curve.

In the event that you do come upon a slippery surface, you want to remember that it is best to use both brakes. Clutching the brake lever in a gradual can avoid a dangerous lockup of your front wheel. If you are moving along at a fairly low speed, you could also try letting your feet skim the road a bit to help keep you from falling.

You also want to try and remember that when you are riding to pay attention for any oil spots that may have accumulated in the center of the lane from cars and trucks. It is always smart to try and ride a bit to either side to avoid such spots as these in the road. If you follow some of these steps and tips, you are on your way to riding safe through adverse conditions.

Tips To Prevent Shaking On A Motorcycle

When you are out and about riding on your motorcycle, you want to be sure that you are doing everything that you can to ensure your safety as well as the safety of others on the road. It is very important that you know how to control your motorcycle and also to prevent certain problems from happening in the first place. A very scary problem that you always want to try and avoid is wobbling while you are riding on your motorcycle.

Because wobbling of the front wheel and handlebars can happen at just about any speed, it is important that you know a few tips ahead of time that could prevent you from getting hurt. The best thing to remember is that you should never speed up to try and alleviate the wobbling. You want to try and slow the motorcycle down by gradually closing the throttle. Many times, if you try and use your brakes to stop the wobbling, it can end up making it worse for you.

Many riders find it helpful to shift their weight forward and as low as they can to try and balance out the wobble a bit. Then, you should be able to pull off the road in a safe manner where you can try to fix the problem. Remembering these simple tips can make a world of difference and could even save your life. Once you know how to handle wobbling on your motorcycle, you are one step closer to the safe and relaxing ride that you deserve.

The New England ATV Association of Massachusetts

The New England ATV Association (NEATVA)is a club of off road enthusiasts who realize the need to promote ATVing to future generations in order to keep the sport alive. Environmental concerns have prompted the closures of a number of park trails that were once open to ATVing.

NEATVA wants to show the world that ATV enthusiasts care about the impact they have on the lands they ride, and follow the standards of conduct put forth by Treadlightly.org. The club is also a member of the Berkshire Trails Council, and as such, participates in maintaining and cleaning trails in the region.

The club accepts members age 16 and older, but requires adult supervision for members under 18 years old. NEATVA offers trail riding, camping trips and summer ATV outings as well, and the club asks it's members to give at least one day a year to help clean and restore the ATV trails.

The club website maintains a page with a listing of some of their favorite places to go ATVing. October Mountain State Forest offers over 30 miles of ATV woodland trails along the old logging roads. Georgetown-Rowley State Forest has currently opened up 5 miles of ATV trails and abandoned road in a peaceful forest setting. These are just a few of the many trails you can experience if you join the club.

If you would like to find out more about the New England ATV Association you can make contact through their website at:

Massachusetts ATV Association

The Massachusetts ATV Association, headquartered in Kingston, was founded as many clubs are; to promote safety and responsibility within the ATV sport in order ensure it's future. The club adheres to the following goals:

* Strive to establish a good working relationship with the state authorities who govern the use of public lands by ATV enthusiasts.

* To use the trails in an responsible and environmentally sound manner, with the goal of expanding legal riding areas.

* Work with authorities to resolve public safety issues.

* Promote the formation of ATV clubs in order to educate riders about safety issues, and lend a positive image to the sport.

* Work cooperatively with other clubs and organizations toward a common goal of enhancing the ATV sport.

* Promote a positive relationship between ATV vendors and customers.

* Hold ATV riding events to advance the sport in a positive light.

The club has a unique opportunity before them; to have their own ATV trail system. A small section of the Georgetown-Rowley State Forest that has been used for ATVing is now threatened with closure. If the club can put together enough volunteers to do all the trail work that this area needs, the parks system would be willing to let them take it over.

Now is the perfect time to join the Massachusetts ATV Association and lend a hand to keep this beautiful section of trails open to the public. If you think you would be interested in acquiring a new group of friends who share your love for off road adventuring, you can contact the club through their website at: http://www.massatv.org/.

Cheaha Trail Riders Club For Alabama ATV Enthusiasts

The Cheahha Trail Riders Club was founded by a small group of men and women who were concerned about securing the future of ATV riding in Alabama's National Forests.

Spurred into action when the U.S. Forest service closed the National Forest to all ATV's, Cheaha Trail Riders worked to form an active partnership with the forestry division to cleanup and repair the existing ATV trails and educate ATV enthusiasts about the necessity to respect the environment in order to preserve the right to ride there.

Cheaha ATV enthusiasts also sponsor several yearly events. Together with the Shoals ATV Riders they sponsored the Make-A-Wish Charity Benefit and Family Fun Weekend which raised over $1200 for Make-A-Wish.

Their annual Volunteer Clean Up Day brought together ATV clubs all over Alabama to make improvements to the ATV trail in Minooka Park. ATVer's raked trails, cut away brush and bagged up trash while also getting the opportunity to get to know the park and see the value in preserving it.

Cheaha Trail Riders Club maintains a very informative and up to date website to keep club members and other ATV enthusiasts in touch with all the club's activities and events, as well as current info on the parks and trails.

Any ATV rider who cares about conservation and respect for the land just as much as they care about having a good time riding the ATV trails may find this is just the club for them. Check out their website at: http://www.cheahatrailriders.com/

Another good source of terrain conservation information is available at the Treadlightly site, http://www.treadlightly.org. Learn how you can help and happy trails and good ATV riding to you and yours!

ATV Riders of Arizona

The Arizona ATV Riders are a club of Phoenix ATV enthusiasts who are dedicated to bringing the sport of ATV riding to anyone who's interested. Their members range in skill level from beginner to advanced, and families are welcome to join too.

The Arizona ATV Riders make it a priority to maintain a cooperative working relationship with all local, state and federal authorities who govern the use of the land where ATV enthusiasts ride. Members also volunteer their time and labor to help keep the ATV trails clean and clear, as well as help the forestry division restore areas that have been devastated by Arizona's wild fires.

The club organizes ATV rides that include camp outs, complete with facilities for tents and RV's. For the hard core camper/ATV enthusiasts, Arizona ATV Riders offer 'pack it in, pack it out' type camp outs where all the gear is loaded on to ATV's and driven to a remote camp site.

This club also participates in ATV events such as the Rocky Mountain ATV Jamboree in Utah, and Kofa Mountains Loop Ride. And just to show they aren't a one track organization, the club also attends the Great Arizona Outback Chili Cookoff and Poker Run.

Sound like a great group of people to you? We think so too. If you're looking for an ATV club full of light hearted riding enthusiasts who ride responsibly, but still know how to have fun, the Arizona ATV Riders are probably a good fit for you. Apache County ATV Riders of Arizona

The Apache County ATV Riders Club was formed just three years ago, but already they are a force on the ATV scene in Arizona.

Last year, this rapidly growing ATV club organized it's first major event, The First Annual Outlaw Jamboree. This fantastically successful ATV riding event took riders on a tour of the scenic white Mountain region of eastern Arizona, and was so popular the event was again made available in 2005.

Combining a love of the ATV sport with a sense of civic duty, the Apache County ATV Riders were able to raise over $2400 from this year's Jamboree to help the unfortunate victims of Hurricane Katrina. Approximately $1400 was donated to the Navapache Regional Hospital to help finance a medical team's trip to Mississippi to help hurricane victims, while the other $1000 raised by these wonderful ATV enthusiasts was donated directly to the Salvation Army's relief efforts.

The Apache County ATV Riders are also very concerned with preserving the pristine environment of Arizona's ATV trails, and adhere to the conservation and safety concepts put forth by Treadlightly.Org, a society dedicated to keeping the environment clean and safe for all wildlife as well as the ATV enthusiasts who want to keep on enjoying the sport.

If you'd like more information about the Apache County ATV Riders Club or the Annual Outlaw Jamboree, you can contact the club at: info@azatvoutlawtrail.com.

Remember, riding responsibly will help keep Arizona's beautiful ATV trails open for generations to come.

Tips On Avoiding Motorcycle Accidents

Nobody wants to get into an accident while they are out enjoying a ride on the open road with their motorcycle. You want to be carefree and enjoy all of the sights and sounds of everything around you. However, you also want to be as safe as you possibly can. This means, keeping yourself alert and aware of all of the traffic and potential problems that may surround you.

When you are out riding, you want to try and stay in the habit of looking ahead of you. By doing so, you are giving yourself a bit of extra reaction time just in case something happens up ahead of you. This can also help you avoid having to stop in a rush or having to swerve, which could have potentially dangerous consequences.

Road conditions are another important thing to be on the lookout for when you are driving your motorcycle. Many times, you will often see road signs that tell motorcyclists to use caution due to certain road conditions. If those signs are not present, it is imperative that you know how to recognize problem road conditions for yourself. You should always be on the lookout for such things as potholes, loose gravel and bumps.

Watching for vehicles that are turning ahead can also help you avoid a sticky situation. If you allow yourself enough time to slow down, then you may avoid having to make a sudden lane change or having to quickly move off of the road. Do all that you can to prepare yourself ahead of time for potential problems and you are one step closer to avoiding an accident.
