Ethics For Riding ATVs On Off Road Trails In Wyoming
Riding ethically on the off-road trails in Wyoming is just good common sense. There aren't a set of ethical laws and there are no ethics police to come enforce these rules, but they should be followed none-the-less.
When you're riding your ATV, commonsense will tell you if you come upon private land, leave it as you found it. That's a good ethic in riding your ATV. Another common occurrence is if you come upon forest or game animals, don't go out of your way to frighten them or chase them on your ATV, that's another good ethical riding skill.
Some other good ethics to observe out on the ATV trails are :
*Do not go trailblazing on your ATV and otherwise damage the land. If the ground is extremely muddy or wet, find a way around that area, riding your ATV directly through it can damage the vegetation around the area substantially.
*Be aware of other riders. This includes not only other ATVers, but motorcyclists and horseback riders as well.
*If a horseback rider is approaching you from either direction, pull your ATV over and let the horse and rider pass your ATV. The engine may not spook all horses, but if someone got thrown from a horse and was badly injured, you could be held liable. The ethical thing to do is err on the side of caution and let the horse pass your parked ATV.
*Volunteer when you can. ATV trails need lots of maintenance to stay fresh. Periodically ATV trails need to be closed so the land can reclaim itself and new ATV trails opened. Help your local forest agency or private ATV riding trail facility if you are able.

Keeping Kids Safe on Go Carts
Go carts are a lot of fun for kids but they can be dangerous if you just turn your kids lose on them without proper instruction and the understanding they are operating a vehicle, albeit not a car or truck, but a vehicle none the less and they need to observe some basic common sense and safety rules to insure they and everyone around them has a great time.
First of all, make sure you and your kids know your go cart, take a little time and read the owners manual and get familiar with the operation of your cart.
Next, before you let your kids get on a go cart, make sure they are wearing an approved helmet, eye protection, and protective clothing. Don't use an old helmet. A helmet is good for one impact only. If you have a helmet that has been handed down or might have been dropped from a good height, err on the side of caution and get your go cart driver a new helmet. Better safe than sorry when it comes to safety equipment.
Clothing should be fitted and not loose. Make sure any long hair is pulled back and better yet, tucked into the collar of your shirt or jacket. Serious injuries can result from lose clothing, shoe laces or long hair getting trapped in the moving parts of a go cart. Your child must be seated before starting engine and keep all covers and shields properly installed.
Your go cart is not made for use on public streets, roads, or highways and should never be used in those situations. Also, know how your go cart handles all terrains. Operating your go cart at too high of a speed on a terrain you are not well versed in and losing control of your cart is a common accident that could be prevented with a little caution.

How to Get started in MotoCross
Motocross is a very popular sport and getting started in this fun activity isn't as hard as you think. Motocross is considered an extreme sport and for good reason, this can be a dangerous sport if you go into it overestimating your skills or with too little experience and skill in handling your motorcycle.
First of all, you need a bike. The motorcycles themselves are special. They have highly knobbed tires for excellent grip on the terrain. Most of these bikes feature water cooled engines and front and rear disc brakes.
This is a sport that can be enjoyed by kids as young as 7. If you feel your child is mature enough to handle the responsibility of riding a motocross bike, let them! They will learn responsibility, watching out for others, anticipating the consequences of actions, planning ahead and good sportsmanship.
Motocross used to be known as scrambling and would feature up to 40 riders that race against each other on a track that had jumps, humps and turns.
Without a doubt, the most popular form of motocross is called Supercross. Originating in America and has spread all over the world. Supercross takes place in enclosed stadium with various heats leading up to a face off between the final two.
If you want to get going in motocross, simply watch the papers and see when a manufacturer or riding organization is holding a training session or even a try out. Also, you can join a club. You will meet a great group of like-minded people who love the sport of motocross as much as you do and you'll have people that can pass on tips and tricks for riding your bike.

Tips for Maintaining Your ATV
Your ATV is a machine and like any machine, it needs to regular care and maintenance in order to continue running properly. To insure your ATV has a long life, give your machine a regular once over.
Getting in the habit of doing a pre-ride inspection will get you in the habit of looking over the big things that can go wrong and spoil a great day out riding your ATV. The great thing about learning to do basic maintenance is that once you get in the habit of doing it, you'll begin to catch little problems before they turn into big problems and sideline your ATVing.
Look over your owner's manual for parts on your ATV that need to be lubricated, adjusted or checked for wear on a regular basis. A good rule of thumb is to check over screws and see if any need to be tightened.
Your ATVs tires will take a lot of abuse out on the ATV trails, make sure they are inflated properly and are in good condition with tread left on them. Don't ride your ATV with bald tires. Your ATVs forward motion depends on its ability to grip the terrain. If you are attempting to climb an incline and you don't have a good tread on your tires, you won't have a very good day of ATVing. Also, tire pressure must be equal on both sides or your ATV will pull to one side.
Other items to look over on your ATV include: Throttle - to make sure there is no sticking, Brakes-they should grab quickly. The Clutch/Foot shifter,spark plugs - you'd be amazed at how often a new spark plug has saved the day of ATVing. Drive chain or drive shaft, steering system, engine stop switch. A little time spent on preventative maintenance will prevent you from sitting out a fun ride due to a broken down ATV.

ATVing Grand Canyon Country
This is the type of terrain your ATV was meant to roll on. Grand Canyon country has a lot to offer up in the way of a day of good riding. If you choose there is so much to see in this area, you can camp out and make it a full weekend of ATVing as there are full facilities and meals available at the ranch.
Most people start from the Bar 10 Ranch and if you do not want to trailer in your ATV, you can rent them from the ranch. The ranch is located less than 10-miles from the scenic north rim of the Grand Canyon and the area is known as the "Arizona Strip".
Using the Bar 10 ranch as a center point, you will have over 5000-miles of dirt roads to explore on your ATV. The Arizona Strip is all of the area located between the Colorado River and the Utah border, and is a scenic ride on your ATV.
Most of the ATV trails are designed with the recreational ATVer in mind, there are a number of ATV trails that will require the technical skill of an experienced rider, but most will just offer up a great day of riding. If you are riding in the Summer, be sure to pack along some extra water as the temperatures can average over 100-degrees and more. The prime time to ride your ATV on these trails is mid-March through May, and then October through early December.
One of the best places to make a journey to on your ATV is up to the Colorado River Overlook. The view is spectacular and well worth the hour plus it will take to navigate up to the lookout point. Another great viewpoint is the Whitmore Point Overlook. It's located about 11 miles from the Bar 10 and you can take in many different views from Whitmore Canyon to the Sawmill Mountains and the Uinkret Mountains. You can also see Mt. Logan - which has its own set of fun ATVing up to the ledges and the trails to the mountain are mostly made from volcanic rock.
There are a number of old mine shafts in this area. Parashant Canyon has a number of them on their ATV trail. Look but do not enter. These shafts are old and have had no maintenance and could collapse at anytime. For your own safety, view from your ATV only.
This is some amazing country to roll your ATV through, if you ever have the opportunity to ride in the Grand Canyon Area, definitely trailer up your ATV and get going!

California Camping and ATVing Barett Lake
Barett Lake trail is not only a great place to ride your ATV, it is a fantastic place to set up camp and make a weekend out of an ATVing outing. The ATV trails are mostly easy with a few challenging and technical sections. Make sure you know the basics of safely maneuvering your ATV on inclines before attempting to climb the more difficult areas on your ATV.
You can unload your ATV at the trailhead near Wrights Lake and head directly onto the ATV trail. There is an uphill climb almost immediately after entering the ATV trail and some lightly rocky sections you will find fun to climb on your ATV.
Deeper inside the ATV trails, there are some rocky sections that you will be well advised to make sure you have winch kit on your ATV just in case your tires can't get a good grip. The steeper part of the ATV trails aren't impossible to pass but certainly a challenge for the lesser experienced ATVer.
If you choose to camp at any place on the trail, remember to follow the guidelines set forth by Treadlightly and leave no trace of your ATV ride or your campsite. If you pack it with you, pack it out. There are no receptacles for refuse of any kind, make sure you don't leave any trash or discarded items at your campsite.
Barret Lake trails are managed by the El Dorado National Forest Service and as with all National Forest lands, be sure that you have your spark arrestor and noise muffler in place prior to riding your ATV on these trails. You can usually get a current map in the ranger's station, so you can get the latest changes - if any- that have happened on the ATV trails.

Riding Your ATV At Canyon De Chelley
Arizona is ATV country and Canyon De Chelley is a great place to ride your machine. Canyon De Chelley is located on a National Monument site and is managed by the Forest Service. In order to ride your ATV on these lands you must have a valid driving license, meaning ATVers under 16 can not ride these trails. You must have and show proof of liability insurance in order to ride these ATV trails. Your ATV must be street legal and include the following in order to ride on their ATV trails : rear view mirrors, horn, muffler, headlamp, tail light, stop light, license plate light. Helmets and goggles are also a requirement.
Additionally, this area is also shared with the Navajo Nation and you are bound by tribal law as well as the United States laws and regulations. The Native laws basically restrict your access to sacred lands, on your ATV or on foot; and you may not bring or use alcohol on the Native managed lands. Another interesting regulation is if you want to ride your ATV within the Canyon itself, you must obtain the services of an authorized Navajo Guide. The guides will accompany you either on foot, horseback or in your own 4WD.
The area is very scenic. The Canyon walls extend up about 300-feet high and is made up of the beautiful, bright red rock of the area. If you look closely at many of the rocks, you will see many paintings and carvings done by ancient residents of the area.
The terrain you'll be riding your ATV upon is nearly all sand and loose rock. There are a number of cliff dwellings and many you are allowed to stop and look in and see how the indigenous people of this area lived over 1000 years ago.
A definite "must see" when you ATV this area is Antelope House. It is one of the largest ruins in the area and can be viewed from 1000-feet up on the canyon rim. This is an unusual and exciting place to ATV, be sure to make Canyon De Chelley a destination for your next Arizona ATV riding excursion!
