The Black Hills Country Byway is located in Southeastern Arizona on the edge of the Peloncillo Mountains. There are incredible views for an ATVer to feast their eyes on. You can see the Gila Mountains, the Black Hills, and the Gila River Valley on the byway. These sites are enough to take your breath away as you hang onto your ATV for dear life. Don’t let the views distract you too much. This is treacherous ground.

One of the neatest attractions for ATVers on the Black Hills Country Byway is a prison labor camp. This historic site will make anyone appreciate the freedom they enjoy in the Arizona country.

Be sure to pack your kayak on your ATV because the byway goes by the Gila River. Here you can take an ATVing break and dip your toes in the water. The ATVing ground may be rough, but wait until you try out the river!

When ATVing through this Arizona byway, you should take a trip through the Gila Box Riparian National Conservation Area. This is home to beautifully kept land and wildlife. This is a picture perfect location to cruise on your ATV. The ground is not difficult, but can prove to be very relaxing.

The Blue Ox ATV Trail

The ATV trails at the Blue Oxwill thrill even the most experienced ATVer even though this ATV trail is rated on the easy side.

If coming from Northome in Koochiching County look for the Big Falls or the International Falls for all of your parking needs. It is open for all ATVers between April 1 to November 30 depending on the weather - expect snow/ice in the early and late parts of the season.

This is an impressive ATV trail in that it is 64 miles of abandoned railroad grade that narrows at the top and sometimes this ATV trail, is only slightly above the surrounding ground level of the land. There is vast areas of black spruce swamps and upland aspen stands. Any ATVer will find the ride very scenic during any season. While out ATVing, you will come across some major towns and rivers that will cross your path. If you happen to be driving your ATV during the early morning hours or late afternoon, you will probably see a number of local wildlife residents watching you and your ATV roll by.

The length of this ATV trail is long, so packing a lunch with some water would be a good idea. Also making sure your ATV is in top running order, along with a tire check, should be on your list of things to do, before your big ATV run. Don't forget to wear a helmet with your gloves, goggles and boots. Watch out for flying debris from other ATVers that might get kicked up.

Always let someone know where you are going and about when you will return. With this ATV trail being so big, taking a cell phone or some walkie talkies, might be a good idea. If you have GPS, even better!

The sport of ATVing can be lots of fun, just stay alert, use your common sense and the thrill of the ATV ride will be awesome indeed.

Consolidated Conservation ATV Trails

The trails in a Consolidated Conservation, are a bunch of trails gathered together as one. This makes it very exciting for the ATVer when looking for that different kind of place to try out your ATV skills.

These ATV trails are located in two counties, Marshall and Beltrami and are filled with 43 miles of twists, turns, steep slopes and rough muddy terrain for any level of ATVer. When certain areas are closed during severe wetness, signs are always posted, so be on the look out for them. This ATV trail extravaganza is open from June 1 to October 31.

Even tough this is a 43 miles system, they have been broken up into smaller ones to make the sport of ATVing more challenging. Also, they can be monitored more closely by Wildlife Management for over signs of over use.

Before heading out for some fun on your ATV, always do a complete systems check on your machine. It is the most important thing you can do for yourself. The last thing you want is to get stranded out on the ATV trails with a broken down ATV. Don't for get the tires, most ATV's require low air pressure.

Another safe thing you can do for yourself is wear a DOT approved helmet. Along with goggles, gloves and boots, these are the standard equipment when participating in the sport of ATVing. An ATV outfit or just long pants with a long sleeve shirt, will help protect you as well. Always let someone know where you are and when you will be back, and along with a cell phone, any emergencies that come up, you can contact someone.

This is a great sport and ATVing will be a blast if all safety measures are followed. So stay alert, use common sense, watch your speed, and the thrills of ATVing are yours.

Chegwatana State Forest OHV Trails

The trails at Chegwatana State Forest is a wonderful place for all ATVers to go and test their ATV skills.

If coming from Pine City go 4 miles Northeast on county road 9, then go 9 miles east on county road 10 till you come to the Chengwatana Forest ATV parking lot. It is open all year except for some seasonal closings due to inclimate weather that will be posted at the trailhead when this occurs.

These ATV trails are over 11 miles long and are made for the more experienced ATVer. These ATV trails can get pretty difficult, so watching your speed will be a priority. This place has everything any ATVer would want when you're wanting a more challenging ATV ride. It is full of upland islands that are surrounded by marsh and brush. There are three rivers that flow right through this ATV forest, so not only will you get the rough terrain, deep slopes, and twists and turns, but there will be water crossings and mud, lots of mud.

This brings us to the equipment that you must have in order to have a safe ATV run. A helmet is the most important protection for you. With all the mud and debris that will spray on you, goggles, gloves and boots are in order. An ATV outfit is the best choice, however, a long sleeve shirt and protective pants will do the trick while out ATVing.

While out on the ATV trails, pay attention to what is going on around you. There might be others out and about, and you never know what might cross your path or be on the path.

Chegwatana is a great ride on you ATV waiting to be had!

Coconino National Forest is like a second heaven for ATV enthusiasts. There are four different areas of this forest. Each of these offer different types of terrain. ATVers will love the Peaks district, Mormon Lake, Red Rock District, and Mogollon Rim District.

The meadows give you the ability to rev up your ATV's engine and give it all you've got. Some of the best views and scenery on in the peaks district in Coconino National Forest.

Another area to ride your ATV in Coconino National Forest is Mormon Lake District. This space gives you another opportunity to get some speed. There are several lakes in this district, so be sure you and your ATV are ready to get a little wet. Splash around for a while, and then dry off while you zip around the wide open fields.

Basic ATV Brake Maintenance

Brake maintenance on your ATV is one of the most important steps of upkeep. On every type of vehicle it would be a nightmare for your brakes to stop functioning. Brakes are extremely important for ATV riders since speeds usually soar. Simple brake maintenance should keep your ATV safe.

Lubricating brakes seems like an oxymoron. As a matter of fact you should lubricate your brake cables before every single ride on your ATV. Do not, however, get any lubrication on the brake pads or the disc itself. This could cause a failure to stop.

Another important ATV brake maintenance tip is to check brake pads and shoes for wear. To ensure the correct amount of padding, brake pads should be checked every three to six months. Once they have been worn down, replacement is necessary.

The hydraulic cables are another important element of the ATV braking system. You must be sure they are properly connected to the braking mechanism. Hydraulic pressure is required in order to stop an ATV. It is important to check the brake fluid for any leaks before any ride. If there is no brake fluid, there will be no brakes.

Last, but definitely not least, before every ATV ride, you should test the brakes to make sure they are in working order. You can do this by quickly depressing the gas and then the braking immediately. You should be sure to test both the front and back brakes to be sure they are in working order.

No ATV would be complete without working brakes. A fun ATV ride could turn into a nightmare without properly maintained brakes. Simple steps including lubricating cables, checking brake pads, and a hydraulic cable check will ensure an exciting and safe ATV ride now and in the future.

Elm Creek ATV Trail

The trail in Elm Creek is what all ATVer's are looking for.

It is located in Martin County in Trimont. If coming from Trimont, go west on county road 38 to county road 44 for one mile. Turn right ten go 7 miles till you get to township road, turn left, about a half mile and there is the parking lot. It is open from December 22 to September 30 and is available for all ATV's and other OHV's.

This is a great place to go ATVing because it is on private land. It is a seven mile course that has lots of narrow trails, that weave through the woods. It runs along a creek and crosses it several times. There is an open field where a track is available for practice. This is a well maintained place and safe for the entire family of ATVer's.

Because it is a very family oriented place, safety has got to be your top priority. Always be aware of what is going on around you. You never know what might be on the trail or even cross right in front of you. Keep the speed of your ATV in check.

Making sure you have a safe running machine is your responsibility. Do a complete systems check of your ATV before heading out. That includes the oil and tires too.

Wearing the right equipment is a safety matter for you. A helmet is vital, along with gloves, goggles, and boots. Also for you, bring some water along, as well as a packed lunch. A cell phone would be a great idea, in case you need it.

Never ride double or have side by side ATV's. These are very narrow ATV paths with some rough terrain, always leave yourself room to navigate and you'll have a great time riding at Elm Creek.

Visit the Forest Riders ATV Trail

The ATV trails in Forest Riders is a great place for the most experienced of ATV riders or for the person new to ATV riding.

These ATV trails, are located in two counties, Becker and Hubbard. If you are coming from these counties, take highway 71 to county road 41, west for 3 miles. When you come to Two Inlets Town Hall, you are there.

This ATV trail is a system of State Forests roads, County Forest roads and right of ways. You will get to enjoy the wide array of flowers and scenic beauty that nature has to offer. These ATV trails connect two Inlets, Lake Alice, Lake George and Emmaville, and then gives you access to the Paul Bunyan State Forest.

These trails offer the ATVer a wonderful terrain that even the novice in the ATV sport could pursue. It has the thrill of the steep slopes and turns that are sharp and winding all in a 120 mile area. These trails are open from May 15 to September 30 depending on the weather. These are great ATV trails for newer riders to hone their skills on, and for more experienced ATVers, just enjoy the ride!

The thrill of the ATV ride must include safety. Your ATV vehicle must be in top running condition, so a through check must be done before every run. This must include checking the oil, brakes and tires. The air pressure, on most ATVs are kept low, so make sure you follow the manufactures recommendations for your model.

Be sure to wear your DOT approved ATV helmet at all times and always wear your goggles. Losing a fun day of ATVing because you have to have debris removed from your eye would be a real good time spoiler. Simply wearing your goggles properly while riding your ATV can prevent that.

Forest Riders has a great variety of ATV trails waiting for you, check them out soon!

Grandy Dancer ATV Trail

The ATV trail at Grandy Dancer is where the most experienced ATV's go to challenge the terrain and skill needed to succeed on these difficult ATV trails.

This is a 31 mile trail that starts in Danbury Wisconsin and precedes north through Minnesota, and continues back into Wisconsin. To get there, just start in Pine County, then from Hinckley go east on Highway 48,go north on County Road 173 to Tamarack Forest Road. The whole length of this fabulous trail is open to ATVs. If your ATV is over 900 lbs, then you are limited to only the upper 25 miles of the trail.

Remember safety is the top priority of the sport of ATVing. It can become very dangerous if you are not prepared and don't know how to navigate your ATV safely over different types of terrain.

Make sure you do a complete systems check on your ATV. This is very important because mechanical failure is the number one problem while out ATVing. Wear the appropriate clothing, which includes your helmet, gloves, goggles and boots. Long sleeve shirts and pants also helps protect yourself. The terrain of these trails are old abandoned railroad grades, so make sure your ATV's tires are in good shape. Check the air pressure and tread too.

Always let someone know where you are and when you plan on returning. A cell phone is a good piece of equipment to have while out riding your ATV. Walkie talkies are good, if out riding with a group and you get separated. Never ride double or side by side on any trail. It is very dangerous and just not safe. Pay attention to your surroundings and stay alert to everything that is going on. There are others out and about on their ATV's or other toys and accidents are always possible.

Use common sense, alertness, and get ready for the best time ATVing at Grandy Dancer.

Fort Ripley & Ripley Connection ATV Trail

Fort Ripley ATV Trail is a wonderful place for you and all of your ATV buddies because it is full of challenges and rough terrain.

To get there, from Little Falls,it is 2 miles north from highway 371. If you are coming from Brainerd, it is one mile south. The southern section of this ATV trail is open all year long, but the northern section is only open from April 1 to November 1 every year depending on the weather.

It is a great place to ride your ATV,as it is surrounded by gorgeous pine and oak trees. It has rough terrain and some steep slopes and crazy turns that all ATVers love. This trail is 22.9 miles in length, so make sure you and your ATV are prepared.

Being prepared means making sure your ATV is in top working order. Give it a complete check up, from the oil to tightening any loose bolts. The tires on an ATV get a lot of abuse, so check the air pressure and the tread.

While your ATV must be prepared, so should you. Your body takes a lot of abuse also, so wearing the right equipment is essential, a helmet, goggles, gloves and boots are all apart of the ATVer's wardrobe. Adding a long sleeve shirt and pants will keep you even more protected.

Safety has to be any ATVer's number one priority. Never ride double or side by side on any of the ATV trails. Stay alert for any debris or wildlife that may be on the road. Riding an ATV means always paying attention to what is going on around you. Take a cell phone or walkie talkies to contact someone in case of an emergency. Having a GPS or at least a map is always a smart choice.

So with all of this information, go out and have a great time ATVing!

Tonto National Forest ATV riding areas

Located in the hot Arizona sun, Tonto National Forest provides perfect western ATVing fun. Tonto National Forest provides some of the most adventurous terrains in the area. The two main ATVing areas in which to ride are Rolls OHV area and Bulldog Canyon.

Full of rocky grounds, the Tonto National Forest ATV riding area is almost exclusively designated for 4 wheel drive vehicles. This means you will not have to share the road with cyclists or 2 wheel drive vehicles. The only people you will meet will share your ATV 4-wheeling excitement.

Rolls OHV area is one area that was specifically established for ATVers. It is a huge area of 27,000 acres. Here you can ride your ATV while enjoying the Arizona wildlife, sun, and beauty.

The second area dedicated to ATV riding is the Bulldog Canyon. This area is where you can show off your ATV skills. Bulldog Canyon is meant for experienced riders and can be very dangerous. After saying that, it must be said that this is one of the most thrilling rides you will ever take. Here you pass through the majestic Goldfield Mountains and travel through the Sonoran Desert. The rocky terrain is unforgettable.

Tonto National Forest ATV traveling warrants some precautions. The desert can become very hot and is extremely dry. Be sure to drink plenty of water before ATVing and bring along enough water to replenish yourself during your trip. You should also bring a map and a friend along on the ride with you. 27,000 miles of land is unforgiving when you lose your way. Two minds are better then one.

Tonto National Forest is a place every ATVer in Arizona should visit. The scenery and the land at Tonto National Forest are the perfect match for an ATV.

What are things I can maintain on my ATV?

For some people, their ATV is their baby. They want to know what they can do to protect their baby and make it live (run) as long as possible. If you are one of these people, read on. There are some basic things you can do to maintain your ATV.

Taking care of your ATV's radiator and water pump is a great start. These are the cooling features of your ATV that allow it to run when temperatures sore. You should always check the radiator to make sure it is filled with fluid. If too low, there wouldn't be enough cooling fluid to cool down your ATV on a hot day.

The water pump is another area for ATV maintenance. Always make sure it is in working/spinning condition. Be sure to check all hoses to make sure there are no cracks or leaks. This could cause your ATV engine to overheat.

Levers are another important area for ATV maintenance. The most important levers are the clutch, brake, choke, and gas. Be sure to lubricate these often. Also, make sure to clean any grime build-up as you see it. This could cause a lever to stick or not decompress far enough. There is nothing worse then a brake lever not decompressing enough.

There are many switches on an ATV. These switches are connected with electrical wiring and are housed in an enclosed casing. Unfortunately manufacturers don't seal these casings very well. Debris and moisture often gets in and can cause your ATV wiring to short-out. About every six months you should open up the casing and clean out any debris. This should prevent electrical problems.

ATVs are complicated machines just as much as they are toys. In order to keep these "toys" running for as long as possible, there are certain things you should do. Basic maintenance is important for the future of your ATV.

The ATV riding areas managed by Arizona Game and Fish

The Arizona Game and Fish manage many unique ATV riding areas. Hayfield Draw, Eherenburg Sand bowl, and Hot Wells Dunes Recreational area are just some of the many ATVing areas of note.

Located near Cottonwood, Hayfield Draw is the Arizona Game and Fish area everyone should start out in. It is perfect for families with inexperienced ATV riders because it has a beginners lot for easy terrain. There are over 120 miles of winding trails which travel through the lush Coronado National Forests. You can also travel full speed ahead on the over 40 acres of open land. Hayfield Draw has ATV riding for people of all experience levels.

Another area of ATVing note is the Eherenburg Sand bowl. This has a couple attractions ATVers would love. There are over 2,000 acres of sand dune riding. No ATV ride in Arizona is complete without a little bit of sand riding. There are also several ATV trails that travel along the Colorado River. There is nothing like a river to make you feel like you are experiencing nature to it's fullest.

The Hot Wells Dunes Recreation Area is another area that is full of 2,000 acres of sand dunes. This is a picture perfect desert ATVing setting. The area has areas for those that area experienced ATV riders, to those who are not so experienced. There are small dunes and there are extremely larger dunes for those with the most courage. Be sure to spend the night camping here. Campsites are complete with everything you would need, including hot tubs. Hot Wells Dunes got it's name from these hot water artisan wells.

There are so many wonderful riding areas managed by the Arizona Game and Fish. Hayfield Draw, Eherenburg Sand bowl, and Hot Wells Dunes are just some of the wonderful ATVing areas typical to Arizona.

ATV Carburetor Maintenance

Carburetor Maintenance is very important in order to keep your ATV running smoothly.

Everyone knows that every vehicle, including ATVs require fuel to run. The burning fuel fires the engine. The question is: How does the gas from the gas tank get to the engine? The answer is: the carburetor. A carburetor is the mechanism that forces the gasoline from the gas tank of an ATV to the engine.

ATVs travel on all terrains. Those include dusty deserts, rocky mountains, sappy forests, and muddy swamps. These can all cause your carburetor to fill with dirt. If your ATV has a dirty carburetor, that dirt may get forced into the fuel and later into the engine. Dirt in the engine will cause your ATV run poorly.

In order to keep your ATV's carburetor clean, once a year it should be taken apart, cleaned, and rebuilt. This is not a simple job. Only those individuals comfortable with taking apart a carburetor should complete this task. Most people need to take their ATV to a professional to have the carburetor cleaned. Although this may be expensive, it will save you money in the long run. Small to medium ATV investments in the present can prove to be worthwhile in the future.

All parts of an ATV are important to it's running condition. If one part fails, that affects the next one. Since the engine is the heart of a vehicle, it must be in tip-top shape. The carburetor is one of the most important parts of your ATV because it easily affects the engine. If the carburetor does not work correctly, your ATV will suffer. Caring for your ATV's carburetor is extremely important for the longevity of your vehicle. You can't have off-roading fun without a reliable ATV to ride.

Agassiz Recreational ATV Trails

The ATV trails at the Agassiz are what all ATVers are looking for.

To get to these fun ATV trails from Fertile in Norman County, follow the east side of highway 32, and it takes you right there. It is open from April 1 to November 30, as the weather permits.

This trail is 32 miles of untamed abandoned railroad grade, that was turned into a fantastic ATV trail. It passes through the cities of Twin Valley and Fertile. It's these two cities, that supports all ATVers, along with mountain bikers and equestrian users. There is lots of river crossings for the ATVer to try their skills on as well as rough terrain with slopes and sharp turns.

Being this ATV trail is rather long, you might want to pack a lunch with lots of water. There will be lots of mud out there as well, so make sure you wear the equipment all ATVers are recommended to wear. A DOT approved helmet, along with goggles, boots and gloves to protect your hands and legs from debris and branches, and long sleeves and pants are wise ideas to wear when ATVing.

Never ride double on your ATV or try to drive side by side. A well running ATV is one that has been completely checked out before heading to the ATV trails. An ATV takes lots of abuse, so make sure everything is gone over, including the tires. The air pressure in your tires is important to be set at the proper level, check with the manufacturer's recommendations.

An added safety measure you should always take is to make sure you tell some one where you are going and when you will return, and take a cell phone with you. All of this, including staying alert and watching for others, will ensure a fantastic ATV run at Agassiz Recreational Trails you will never forget.

ATV Battery Maintenance

An element of ATV maintenance that should never be forgotten is Battery care. Battery maintenance is something anyone can easily do. There are easy steps every ATV owners should take in order to care for their battery.

The first thing ATV owners should do when installing a brand new battery is spray the bolts and posts with spray paint. This will seal the battery connection and will also prevent corrosion from occurring in your ATV battery.

Since an ATV battery is very susceptible to debris and moisture, corrosion can occur. This corrosion will prevent your ATV from starting. The terminals should be cleaned regularly. Once you begin seeing a green build-up on the posts, remove the screws and get brand new ones. Once the screws are removed, you can take a wire brush and scrub the corrosion away from the ATV battery and the threads the screws fit into.

Sometimes battery acid can become low within the battery. In this case, your ATV will not start or hold a charge. Check to see if the acid is low by removing the six plastic bolts on the front of the battery. For a temporary replacement of battery acid, water can be used. However, keep in mind that in cold weather the water could freeze and ruin the battery for life.

ATV batteries can last for about two to three years. It is wise, however, to take them into a professional about once a year to have them checked. There is a simple test they can do that will tell you how much life is left in the battery. This will tell you if you need to purchase another one or if it will be good for the rest of the season.

A dead battery means a dead ATV. Simple maintenance can be performed to use an ATV battery to it's fullest potential.
