Johnson Valley OHV Recreation Area
OHV means Off-Highway Vehicle, and your ATV fits that category in Johnson Valley. This area offers a varied landscape with steep red rocky mountains, open valleys, rolling hills, with sand washes and dry lake beds. In other words, an ATVer's dream.
To get there, take Highway 247, about 55 miles southeast of Barstow (CA) or about 25 miles east of Victorville California. Most ATVer's, access the area off Camp Rock Road driving north off of Highway 247. Staging for many competitive events is at Anderson Dry Lake, about 10 miles north of Highway 247 just east of Camp Rock Road. You can also get access north of Highway 247, driving east toward Yucca Valley, at Bessemer Mine Road.
This is one big place. It has 189,000 acres of outstanding trails, narrow canyons,flat dry lakes,sand dunes and a bunch of twist and turn trails. It takes you through low rocky mountains, with huge rock slabs,and ruins of historic mines. While riding your ATV, you will see range cattle, and a wide variety of desert animal and plant life. This is the kind of place, all ATVer's look forward to running.
When going out to these trails, safety takes president over everything else. This can be a very dangerous sport, so following the rules and using good "ole" common sense are esential in ATVing.
Make sure you do a maintenance check on your ATV. It must be in top running order. The worst thing is for something to happen to it, while out on the trails. If something like this were to happen, having a cell phone would come in handy.

Take your ATV to the Trails of Hollister Hills
Just an hour away from San Jose, Hollister Hills State Vehicular Recreation Area has everything to satisfy ATVers, motorcyclists, campers and picnickers alike. The beautiful mountains range in elevation from 660 to 2,425 feet, and that means amazing hills and diverse terrain to satisfy your need for a challenging and fun ATV experience.

High Rock Canyon is sixteen miles long, and in addition to great ATV experiences, visitors can find amazing hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding as just a few leisure activities.
It is important to note, that there are no facilities in or near the canyon, except for one camp. So be sure to pack in and pack out all the supplies and provisions you need to complete your ATV excursion. Knoxville/Red Elephant Mine ATV Trail
The ATV trail in Knoxville/Red Elephant Mine,attracts many OHV (off-highway vehicle) enthusiasts each year.It offers 17,700 acres of steep, rolling hills, with plenty of untamed scenery.

As an ATVer, you know that safety is the top concern of this sport. It can become dangerous, if the right precautions aren't taken.

Wolfpen Gap ATV Trail provides 41 miles of scenic riding in Arkansas. This trail provides ATV difficulty levels from the easiest to the most difficult to welcome all types of riders. ATVers can experience the most relaxing scenic trails to the ones that get your heart pounding.
Some areas of interest at Wolfpen Gap Trail include Gap Creek and Board Camp Creek. What You Can Do To Prevent ATV Trails From Closing
There are a few things you and all the other ATVers can do to make sure ATV trails don't close.
Don't give them a reason. By that, it means,don't give them(land management) the opinion, that all ATVers don't care about the environment or the natural resources that make these trails great.
Second, don't be irresponsible in the way you run your ATV or treat the trail, like tearing it up, or even worse, going off the trail, to make your own.
Third, just use plain old common sense, when it comes to ATVing. As with any motor vehicle, you must ride it in a respectable way. Don't beat it up just respect it as what it is, a machine that could do a lot of damage if not taken seriously.
Fourth,educate yourself, so you can educate others. ATVing is a great sport, but not everyone knows the ups and downs of it.
Fifth, get active in all facets of ATVing. Work with clubs, or start your own,to enhance the image of ATVers.
Sixth, Follow the Blue Ribbon Coalition's Recreation Code of Ethics. It is a standard for preserving our natural resources for the public, rather than from the public.
Just remember that how you and the other ATVers come across, is the image you are going to project.The environment is a very hot topic and one that should be communicated in a very calm but informative way.
You must remember that the use of these remote and primitive roads by ATVers, actually increases the traveler's appreciation of the wilderness and has no real environmental impact, when used within the guidelines set forth by federal agencies and other organizations.

ATV Trail Riding Etiquette
Having and using proper etiquette out on the trail is very important.It not only shows that you care but that you are a responsible ATVer. Here are some tips for being on top of it, where etiquette is concerned.
Be aware of the damage you and your ATV can do. It is a heavy machine that could really tear things up. Don't venture off the designated trail. There are many things that can happen. You could get lost, for one.Another, is that your ATV could damage the ground by leaving ruts that eventually erodes the the dirt.
Don't litter anywhere. This is unacceptable, know mater where you are, let alone on the ATV trails. Do not spin your tires and tear up the dirt. It eventually, leads to erosion, and nature does a pretty good job of that already.
If you need to pile up stones and rock so you can get your ATV over an obstacle, please put them back when you are finished. This is taught at a young age, Put it back, just as you found it. The point to this is, it should look as thought you and your ATV was never there.
Don't try to show off, by doing tricks with your ATV. An ATV is a very heavy motorized vehicles, that was not made to do the impossible.
When coming across wildlife, leave it as wildlife.This is their home and they don't need anyone or thing wrecking it.
Keep your speed down. We all know how good it feels to have that air hitting you in the face, the faster we go. This is how accidents happen. Take your time, enjoy the scenery, live for the day and the moment.The life you save enjoying the day, could be your own.

Take Your ATV to the Trails of Ozark National Forest
Ozark National Forest provides perfect ground for extreme sports such as ATV riding. Here there are several trails that offer beautiful scenery and various types of terrain. The three main trails of note are: Huckleberry Mountain Horse Trail, Mill Creek ATV trail, and Moccasin Gap Trail.
Huckleberry Mountain Horse Trail provides for over 34 miles of ATV fun. This has two main loops: Huckleberry Mountain Loop and Apple Loop. Perhaps the feature that makes this trail unique from the other two is the amount of water riding. There is one section on Huckleberry Loop that passes over Shoal Creek a half dozen times. Some ATV riders believe splashing through streams to be the most exhilarating type of ride you can take.
Mill Creek ATV Trail is the next amazing location to ATV in the Ozark National Forest. This area has the most terrain variety then the other trails. There are mountainous areas, forests, streams, and unsurfaced / rocky paths. This trail is home to some of the most difficult ATV riding spots in the Forest. This is also very remote area, so take the appropriate precautions. Rocky, remote areas may be exciting, but they can also lead to disaster if not properly prepared for.
The last ATV trail is called Moccasin Gap Trail. This is probably the most breathtaking of all three. It takes you on a ride beside Moccasin Creek which is home to several beautiful waterfalls. ATVing through pine forests is another welcome difference. This trek is probably also the most relaxing of the three trails and would make for a nice Sunday Ride.
Ozark National Forest can provide ATV riders with many days of extreme riding. Lush forests, clear streams, and calming waterfalls make this ATV location one you will never forget.

Spider Lake Of The Rubicon Trail Is Closed
This is the second year that Spider Lake Of The Rubicon Trail has been closed to all motorized vehicles.It was determined that there has been lots of resource damage, so a closing was in order.
Resource damage is considered motorized vehicles getting off the designated path, and driving over rocks and bushes, thus destroying the natural resources.
This time, when they refer to motorized vehicles, they are referring to ATV's.There seems to be a prejudice for ATV's and the ATVer's themselves.
The closer is smaller this year than last year, but to the dismay of ATVer's,it seems to be a management problem. The management that over sees this area, has not, in the opinion of Friends of the Rubicon Trail, bothers to fix any of the problems that have been pointed out.
It is of opinion, that until communication between the two are worked out, this issue will remain dormant.
So while I have you here, why not go over some safety issues that all ATV'ers need to know before venturing out into ATVing.
Your gear is of utmost importance. A helmet, pair of gloves, some boots, and goggles for your eyes, are what you need to protect your body.

The Rasor Off-Highway Vehicle Area is Great for ATVs
You are going to love the run you will have on the Rasor Off-Highway Vehicle Area. It is a very exciting and remote area, that provides rolling hills and open valleys, along with sand dunes.
The riding area is between Interstate 15 and the Mojave National Preserve, about 25 miles southwest of Baker California. The access roads are Basin Road and Rasor Road east of the I-15. Both of these roads are graded dirt roads. The elevations are between 1,275 to 2,427 feet.
It is a very remote area, and so the ATVer must be experienced in this activity of ATVing. There is vast vegetation, with rocky terrain and deep slopes. You will come across some very deep mine shafts, so extreme caution must be used in these areas.There is also extremes of heat and cold , so react accordingly.
There are some rules, here in Rasor, that must be followed, while on your ATV.
Your ATV must have a muffler or a spark arrester. If running your ATV at night,you must have workable head and tail lights. You are required by law, in the state of California, to wear a helmet on all ATV's, at all times.
It is against the law to destroy the landscape are any archeological sites. Of course, being an avid ATVer, you already know these things. Safety is an important issue also. You want to make sure your ATV is in top running order. No leaks or smoky exhausts are a no no out in these environmentally protected areas.
Your equipment must be up to date as well as taking the necessary supplies for a long trip. Don't forget a cell phone for emergencies and water. It does get dry and you well get thirsty.
Keeping safety as #1 as well as protecting the environment, will make this a very fun time.

Riding Fourche Mountain ATV Trail
There will never be a better location to show off your ATV skills then at Fourch Mountain trail. This trail has various loops that have been labeled everything from easy to difficult. Now, if you call ATVing up steep cliffs and riding beside deep ravines difficult then of course these loops are easy. However, if you are of the majority of ATV riders who believe these trails to be extremely exciting and challenging, then we're on the same page. This ground is absolutely not easy!
The trail is 26 miles long, but does have several different loops that allow for half or full days of ATV riding. If a full day is planned, take relief I knowing there is plenty of shade for those hot days. The trail runs through mixed forest ground. Many times ATV riders depend on speed to cool them down from the heat, but this rocky terrain will not allow for that type of riding. Trees are a welcome change.
One unique aspect of this ATV trail is the amount of scenic beauty. There are several spots that absolutely everyone would enjoy. There are crystal clear several streams flowing at the bottom of the deep ravines. ATV riders can also view the Ouachita Mountains and rock glades. This alone would take your breath away. Perhaps the most interesting and unique spot to stop is by an abandoned silver mine. This location would be a perfect resting point for ATVers. It consists of history, beauty, AND shade!

Bradshaw ATV Trails
Nestled between the Chuckwalla Mountains and the Chocolate Mountain Aerial Gunnery Range is a great ATV opportunity. The Bradshaw Trails are part of an intricate trail system that covers a huge 65-mile area. These ATV trails exist in and around the very first road that was ever blazed in Riverside County, and is named after it's creator, William Bradshaw.
You will be rocking and rolling with your ATV on historic trails when you grab your ATV and ride over what was originally an overland stagecoach route. Think about the miners and passengers that passed through those lands while you tackle the roadway with your rugged ATV. Times have changed - thank goodness!
Most of the Bradshaw trail covers public lands that give amazing views of the neighboring mountains and the Palo Verde Valley. With your ATV revved up, there are plenty of hills and valleys to keep you challenged and excited
Plenty of hills and rugged terrain make this a trip that requires a few precautions for all ATV operators. Remember, your ATV is not a toy. That ATV is an expensive, and potentially dangerous machine. Rollovers and collisions are far too common, and can have dangerous consequences for the ATV riders. Because of this, it is important for even the most experienced riders to wear a helmet and eye protection. Protective clothing is recommended, too. The Black Lassic Trail has everything an ATVer needs, from awesome camping to fabulous trails, this is ATV riding at its best. While there is something for everyone, from beginners to experienced ATV riders, the Black Lassic Trail has some real amazing experiences that should only be tackled by riders who have been around the block a time or two.
Be sure to prepare at least four hours to make the loop if you are riding non-stop. But I suggest that you allow the better part of the day. Even better than that, take the time to turn this one into a great camping trip.
There are plenty of great campsites sprinkled around the freshwater lake. And the lake is well stocked with fish. Outdoor adventures abound for ATVers who love fishing and wildlife, as the opportunities to take in both are great. These trails provide plenty of hiking and with wildlife everywhere, there is plenty to see.
ATV riders will want to be sure and slow down as they take the waterfall loop trail and enjoy the breathless view. One trail to avoid if you are new to the sport of ATV riding, is the Devil's Backbone trail. With a very steep grade, this one is not for amateurs. Even experienced ATV riders need to approach with caution.
The Black Lassic has challenging ATV trail loops all around, and includes some fairly steep hills to boogie down. Bad weather could make it especially difficult to keep control of your ATV, so be sure to be prepared for the challenges that could be presented by this divers terrain and beautiful countryside.

This park has a little something for all ATV riding ages. Trail rating levels go from 1 through 5. Level 1 is designed for beginners and families for a nice relaxing ride. Here you can sit back and enjoy the scenery while cruising on your ATV. A level 5 is much more difficult. Difficult may not even be the right word for these trails. They require a co-driver and you should expect your ATV to have some damage while trekking in these locations. It may be as small as cosmetic damage, but can also be as serious as mechanical. These are only for the most experienced riders.
One of the most unique features of Superlift ORV park is the Super-Kids Ride Area. This ground is designed specifically for ATVing children 12 and under. This is for children only, but allows for great parking where adults can supervise their children as they ride in a safe environment. ATV the Huckleberry Mountain Horse Trail
ATVers take note: Breathtaking beauty and Huckleberry Mountain Horse Trail go hand-in-hand. This trail is one of the most amazing locations for ATVing in the Ozark National Forest. No where else in Arkansas can you see such gorgeous mountain bluffs or so many fresh mountain streams. The trail is made up of two loops: the Apple Loop and the Huckleberry Mountain Loop.
Apple Loop, the longer loop, is easier riding terrain. Here you can open up your ATV to full speed while traveling on some of the forest and old logging roads. This is also site to a primitive campground if you plan on having an ATV weekend adventure. Here you can eat, sleep, and breath ATV riding.
The slightly shorter loop, Huckleberry Mountain loop is 9.5 miles long. This may be a shorter distance for ATV riders, but the ground is much more difficult to ride on. This is where ATV speed is not the answer. Make sure to keep your distance from ATV riders in front of you to help prevent accidents.
Any ATV rider that treks on huckleberry Mountain Horse Trail should be aware of water levels getting dangerously high along Shoal Creek. Crossing this creek is normally safe when water levels are average, but riders can easily get swept away or stuck when they are high. Weather conditions should be checked daily.
Always take caution while riding your ATV. Bring a first aid kit and rope for emergencies. You should also always wear a helmet. Terrain can be very rugged and your ATV can easily tip over. A helmet is the least you can do to protect your head. Riders should take caution on Huckleberry Mountain Horse Trail. Precautious ATVing will make your trip to Huckleberry Mountain Horse Trail an exciting AND safe one.

Carnegie State Vehicular Recreation Area ATV Trails
If 1,500 acres of open riding area sound like a great ATV opportunity to you, grab your vehicle and get on over to the Carnegie State Vehicular Recreation Area. This is one of only 6 state vehicular recreation areas administered by the California Department of Parks and Recreation, and it is one of the busiest.
With ATV tracks and trails for all levels of riding, no ATV enthusiast will go unsatisfied at this park. The terrain is wonderfully diverse with plenty of rolling hills for the beginning and intermediate ATVers. Those more experienced riders will love plunging their ATVs down steep canyons and across the rocky areas.
Along with awesome trails, Carnegie boasts a great ATV and motorcycle track that is available to the public unless a special event is scheduled. Newer riders really benefit from taking a turn or two around the 90cc Beginner Track which is earmarked just for motorcycles and smaller engined ATVs. Young riders and mature beginners will appreciate this track and the opportunity to work on their ATV handling skills.
At Carnegie, ATVers under the age of 18 are required to take safety training under the supervision of certified instructors, and it is recommended for all ATV operators, regardless of age. In the safety training, drivers will learn about the ATV's controls and basic safe handling procedures. While riding an ATV isn't particularly difficult, common sense and a little awareness are important.
When approaching unfamiliar or difficult terrain, be sure to approach at a slower pace so that you will be able to stay in control of your vehicle. Driving too fast can cause you to lose control and roll over.
