Spring Creek Pass ATV Trail
The San Luis Pass to Spring Creek Pass Trail, can be a great ATV ride by anyone who has some experience on ATV trails. It is considered a moderate trail with some difficulty in certain areas. It is located in the front range of the Rio Grande National Forest. The ATV trail is 14.5 miles long, with a beginning altitude of 11,930 Feet, and ending at 10,898 Feet.
The directions for this ATV trail is from Creede. At the north edge of town, proceed into a narrow canyon. A 1/2 mile beyond Creede, continue straight on Forest Development Road 503 as a side road forks to your right. Watch out for those extremely steep roads. Follow FDR 503 for 6 1/2 miles to the end of the dirt road at the entrance to the Equity Mine. If you have a 4WD with good clearance, follow FDR 503 north up the valley for another 1.6 miles, until it bears to the left (west) and climbs steeply over the high ridge.
This ATV trail has it all. smooth, rough, with some steep slopes and curves. You will come across West Mineral Creek while on the Spring Creek Pass. This is a beautiful area where Elk herds and bands of domestic sheep grazing can be seen on Snow Mesa during the summer months. If you're riding your ATV through when they are out, drive your ATV slowly to avoid spooking the animals.
Remember to always ride with someone, better yet, in pairs. Let people know where you are and the time in which you expect to be back.Be careful on the steep climbs, as to not let the ATV flip or roll. Remember, safety needs to be your first concern. Helmets, gloves, goggles and boots, are all a part of the ATV trail adventure.
Taking this ATV trail, will be a great experience, with lots of fun, rolled into one.

Sand Wash Basin Is A Great Area For ATV Enthusiasts
Sand Wash Basin is a great place from the beginner to the most experienced in ATV riders. It has everything ATV riders want, great slopes, turns, some very sharp, and some down hill too.
This ATV trail is in the North west part of the state, in the county of Moffat. You can easily get there from Maybell, Colorado on State Highway 318.
The ATV trail has numerous dirt roads and trails in the area. But always be on the look out for people and the toys they may have brought. This trail is very popular, even hunters like the location.
On this ATV trail, make sure you pay attention to the wetness of it. If too muddy, you may find yourself hopelessly stuck. It is famous for not drying out after good rain.
The ATV trail, has other things to offer as well. The sights around you are filled with wild horses or other wildlife. So be careful, you don't want to spook any horses and cause a mishap.
This brings us to the safety factor of ATV riding. Always take a cell phone or walkie talkie with you. You never know what might happen on these ATV trails. Tell someone where you will be and when you plan on returning. Better yet, go with a partner, so you can look out for each other.
Make sure your ATV is in good running order. It takes a beating on these trails and you want everything to go well. Course, don't forget your helmet, goggles and gloves. Boots would also be a good idea.
Have fun on the ATV trail, with safety always taking first priority, you will have nothing to lose and all the fun to gain!

Riding Rainbow Hill On Your ATV
Riding Rainbow Hill on your ATV has become quite a bit more challenging lately. This 13.5 mile ATV trail runs from Big Cottonwood Creek to Stout Creek. The scenery on this ATV trail is as beautiful as ever with sections of tall pines and gorgeous blue skies, but the trail is a different story.
If you are the type of ATV rider who thrives on a challenge, the type of ATV rider who never gives up, the type of ATV rider who has buns of steel, Rainbow Hill ATV trail may just be the spot where Mohammed meets the mountain for you.
This ATV trail has become increasingly rocky as time has gone by. Some of the going is exceptionally rough. However, Some intrepid ATVers have found a portion which still has some of the best ATV riding in Colorado. Our ATV tipsters say if you start at the Hayden Creek Campground and ride straight up the Rainbow ATV trail you and your ATV can still get a great ride. But be prepared for the trip back down because the pitch of the trail from that angle is enough to make your hair stand on end. Use some common sense, go slow and keep your eyes peeled for any stray rocks or pits. Tipping your ATV is a bad way to end a good ride.
There are two nearby places for ATV enthusiasts (or maniacs if the last paragraph has taught us anything)to camp while they are hanging out at Rainbow Trail with their ATV buds. Coaldale and Hayden Creek Campgrounds are a popular place to stay. Just remember the standards put forth in Treadlightly. Make sure that anything you pack in gets packed back out with you. Don't be afraid to pick up any extra trash you find even if it isn't your own.
And for heaven's sake, do your share and pick up a couple of those rocks and throw them to the side of the ATV trail would ya?

Take Your ATV To Red Tables Road
Red Tables Road is considered an easy ATV trail. This means that this is the perfect place for the beginner to get to know his ATV and what ATV trails are all about.
The ATV trail lasts for about 17 miles with an elevation of 3410 FT. It is in the NW. part of the state in Eagle county, with the location being in White River National Forest.
To get to this ATV trail, travel east on Hwy 82 to El Jabel, from Carbondale. Turn left at the light and follow the road past Spring Park Reservoir. Turn left at the fork, after the reservoir. Then in 2 miles, turn right at the fork, following the sign to Cottonwood Pass. Right after the pass, turn right onto Red Tables road.
You can reach this ATV trail by two wheel drive for awhile, then the road becomes rougher, and 4WD must take over. The ATV trail travels through some very dense forests with some mighty high alpines. The ATV trail has the most spectacular 360 degree view, once you get on top of the ridge line.
Remember to always check the weather, and have a radio with you at all times. The climate can change very fast on these mountains, and the ATV trails, can become slick and very muddy. This would be a good time for the reminder of goggles and boots.
Safety is something that has to take top priority, when riding the ATV trail. Your helmet is your best defense for your head, and gloves for that extra grip you might need. Be on the look out for any fallen trees or any kind of debris that might be on the ATV trail.
Make sure your ATV is in good running order and have a great time.

Red Cone / Webster Pass Is A Great ATV Trail
The Red Cone and Webster Pass ATV trail should only be considered for very experienced ATV riders. This trail is rated difficult and with good reason. It has lots of loops and bends. This loop happens to be 20 miles long. The ATV trail, can be very deceiving because it does not look very steep. Don't let that fool you, it is and be prepared for that. It will take approximately 3 - 5 hours to ride the whole ATV trail.
The elevation of the mountain is 12,801ft and is 20 miles long. It winds very close to the edge of the mountain and the turns are very sharp, so use caution on your ATV.
You can get to the ATV trail, by taking I-70, take exit 205 at Dillon and head east on US 6 and follow the signs towards Montezuma. At 0.5 miles east of Montezuma, the ATV trail begins at a sign marked F.R. 285.
You will truly enjoy the thrill of the ATV trail and experience some wonderful scenery. It climbs over a rocky road through the forest until it is above the tree line. Then it starts getting a little challenging. You and your ATV will ride to the very top of the ATV trail and from there, will witness the greatest view of rolling green slopes and the peak of the mountains.
Safety is always top priority, when riding on the ATV trails. Always let someone know where you are going and never ride alone. If, you can, carry a cell phone or walkie talkie, in case of an emergency.
Be on the look out for weather changes. In the mountains, these ATV trails can become treacherous,in inclement weather. With safety, common sense and an ATV in good riding condition, you will be ready for a really great ride on a wonderful ATV trail.

Raceway ATVs Has ATVs For Kids Of All Ages
Raceway has built their company selling not only ATVs for the enjoyment of kids and adults alike, but also by promoting safe ATV use.
The sale doesn't stop at the check out with Raceway, they have continuing information available on their website for the latest news on not only their products, but their manufacture's information regarding ATVs as well. Raceway feels an informed ATV rider is the best ATV rider of all, and they want to keep you up to date on the changes and any safety issues that arise.
If you are purchasing your first ATV, the selection available and the measurements can seem daunting. Your Raceway ATV professional can help you narrow down the field by discussing your child's age, size, and level of maturity so the best ATV style can be chosen for your child.
Here is a good rule of thumb on ATV size:
RIDER AGE & ENGINE SIZE CHART Under 70cc = 6 years and older 70-90cc = 12 years and older Over 90cc. = 16 years and older
Always pay attention to the engine size and never put a child on an ATV with a larger engine than they are ready to handle. Some people make the mistake of buying an ATV with a larger engine thinking the child "will grow into it". It is much safer to purchase an ATV with a good fit for your child so they can learn proper handling techniques and be ready for a larger more powerful ATV when they are older and know the safe guidelines for riding.
Raceway can help you make a good choice for your child and also make the safest choice. There are also numerous types of safety gear for your child to make your ATV times the safest and most fun your kids will have!

Tips For Taking Your ATV To Red And White Mountain 4WD Road
Red and White Mountain Road, is a very great place to begin, if you are not an experienced ATV rider. This is the kind of road that would make a wonderful place to practice and get to know your ATV.
It is in the NW region of the state and like the name implies, The Red And White Mountain, is a great place to take in the scenery as well.
You can get to this road by traveling west(from Vail) on North Frontage road for 1 mile. There will be a sign on the right side of the road marked "Piney Lake/Red Sandstone Road". Turn right at the sign. At 3/10 of a mile from the turn-off, follow the road to the right as it makes a hairpin turn and continues up the mountain. At 6/10 of a mile from the turn-off, you'll see a sign for Piney River Ranch at the beginning of a dirt road. Follow this main road. At 5 miles from the start of the dirt road, you'll see a large meadow and take a left. Continue down the road until you reach a "Y". Follow the right fork and you are located on the Red and White Road.
This is a graded road, but can be wash-boarded sometimes, so drive your ATV slowly and be on the look out for traffic, such as bikers and hikers. You should always use caution when riding your ATV. There is a little erosion on this trail also, so look out for that. Make sure you are always wearing your helmet as it is just a good common sense and the ground that you're riding your ATV upon can be unstable.
Plan for a full day here and stay on the ATV trail. The beginning of this trail is very narrow, so always stay alert. Always let someone know what trail you are riding, and never ride alone. Safety must always come first. And most of all, have fun.

Power Line Motorized ATV Trail
If you're planning a trip to Pike National Forest, don't forget to tote your ATV with you so you can check out Power Line Motorized ATV Trail.
This ATV trail is a good alternative if your ATV isn't quite street legal for Rampart Road, and it connects with other ATV trails in the area. Since this ATV trail is rated intermediate to expert it's probably a good point to do a little ATV safety review.
First of all, if you're going to ride an expert level rated ATV trail, then you had better be sure you know how to handle the ATV. An expert trail is no place to learn the basics. Take the time to develop your ATV riding skills on beginner and intermediate trails, and leave expert trails alone until you're ready to run with the big dogs.
Unless you have the navigational skills of an Eagle Scout, it's a sound idea to bring a map of the ATV trail with you. A water bottle and a general first aid kit might come in handy too.
Never follow closely on the tail of the ATV in front of you, especially if you are heading up hill. If the ATV ahead of you looses traction or flips, you will be the next obstacle in line. At the least, your ATV could be damaged, and at the worst, you or your friend could get seriously hurt. Always use caution when crossing creeks and streams with your ATV. The water may be deeper than it looks, and creeks may rise rapidly when it rains. And never ride off road into wilderness areas. Stick to the ATV trails where you belong. Spoiling wildlife area could lead to all ATVs being barred from using the trails.
Simple common sense should always be your guide when operating a powerful piece of machinery like an ATV.

Pool Table Road Is Great For ATV Riders
Pool Table Road ATV Trail is a great place for ATV riders to become one with the great outdoors. Truly what could be better than ATVing along 7.3 miles of the beautiful Rio Grande River Valley?
This ATV trail leads you through some absolutely lovely sub-alpine parks. Have you ever heard of Bristlecone Pine trees? They are regarded to be the oldest living things on the planet, and you get the chance to see them up close along the side of the ATV trail.
Further along the trail, ATVers will come to the site of the old Hansen's Mill. Unfortunately, the mill is long since gone and there is only a pile of sawdust left to mark where it once stood.
There are some flat lands close by that make a good place for ATV enthusiasts to get in a little primitive camping. Remember that what you do can leave an environmental impact on the land. ATVers should be sure to keep campfires at a minimum and have a good supply of water at hand to properly extinguish the fire pit. Always bury your waste a minimum of 200 feet away from water sources and trails.
There is a portion of Pool Table Road that is mostly loose gravel and can kick up quite a dust cloud, so have a little care when ATVing through this area. Some courtesy for the ATV riders sharing the road with you will make for a nicer day.
Any ATV rider should make it their business to know their limits. Watch your time, it's easy to loose track when you are having a great ride on your ATV. ATVers shouldn't keep pushing themselves when they are tired. Be willing to stop and rest.
ATVing is such a wonderful sport. Be smart and you'll be safe.

Radical Hill Is A Popular ATVing Spot in Colorado
What can we say about Radical Hill, except that it's quickly becoming one of the most popular spots for ATVing in Colorado. The ATV trail lives up to its name. There's nothing like feeling the mountain wind blowing through your hair as you and you ATV climb higher and higher up the side of Mt. Wise.
This ATV trail has more than enough rocky mountain trail to satisfy any thrill seeker. ATV riders with intermediate skills will appreciate the wild and challenging mountain pass.
And the ATV trail isn't the only challenge ATV riders face on Radical Hill. ATVers will have to watch out for the weather because it changes as quickly as the twists in the ATV trail itself. You and your ATV will be hauling tail in the sunshine one minute, and trying to take cover from hail the next. Lightning is also possible up here in God's country so remember some basic weather safety tips.
If you and your ATVing buddies find yourselves in danger of lightning, get off your ATVs. Pull way over to the side of the trail and get as low to the ground as you can. Never, and we mean never should an ATVer try to take shelter under the trees. Should lightning strike the tree, campers on Radical Hill would be serving ATVer bacon for dinner that night. (By the way this lightning stuff applies to mere mortals too.)
One more piece of news about Radical Hill ATV trail. ATVers have begun pushing the envelope and heading off into non ATV approved sections on the mountain. We're talking about that short rocky hill section that breaks off to the right. Rangers have been working to make it obvious to all ATVers that this section of the trails is closed to them, so pass the info along to you ATV buds.

Pearl Pass ATV Trail
Pearl Pass ATV Trail near Crested Butte, Colorado is just a beautiful, beautiful place to go ATVing. You will never find another ATV trail that is it's equal in natural splender.
Nothing can prepare you for the awesome view that greets ATVers when they clear the corner at the top of the pass and find themselves looking down into the Montezuma Basin. Staring out into this unbelievable place ATV enthusiasts can really get a sense of how old the earth truly is.
The ATV trail leading out of Crested Butte starts out as a fairly easy dirt road, but before you know it, the climb gets harder and harder. This ATV trail is only open a few weeks out of the year due to impassible snow drifts that may last well into August, but if you ever get the chance to go ATVing there, you are in for a very rare treat.
If you'd like to ATV at Pearl Pass you should head south from Crested Butte for 2 miles and turn left at the Crested Butte Country Club sign, eventually this changes into Brush Creek Road FR738. Stay on the main road for a short while and it gives way to a gravel road. There are signs to point ATVers on their way to Pearl Pass.
There is a camping area near the ATV trail and ATVers planning to stay should review environmental and safety tips in the Treadlightly manual. It is very important to maintain the beauty of this area if it is to be kept open for ATV use. Above all, ATV riders should be certain to remove all of their trash and leave nothing behind on the trail. The cardinal rule of ATVing is never ride alone. Always take a buddy or two with you when you ride the ATV trails.

Overlook Motorized Trail Can Be A Blast On Your ATV
If you're feeling like going cowboy with your ATV, then Overlook Motorized ATV Trail is going to be a blast for you! Looking out over the terrain ahead, ATV riders can almost hear that spaghetti western theme music playing. Ready to take the challenge?
This ATV trail takes you through 2.8 miles of the classic old West. ATVers will start expecting to meet up with Clint Eastwood around every bend. The desert scenery is some of the best you'll ever see, so ATV riders should be sure to bring their cameras. The folks back home ought to see what they're missing. Who knows? Maybe you'll make some ATV converts.
The terrain here can be pretty challenging as this ATV trail is rated for intermediate level for ATV skills. The area is actually a rich hook up for other ATV trails. There's about 20 or so miles of them. You could even link up with Westwater Mesa for a ride that will take you on an oddessey.
In fact, this ATV trail area can really challenge your navigational skills, and with the possibility of new ATV trails to hook up with, it's time to talk about a few precautions that will help keep you ATV ride a pleasant one.
First of all, it would be fool-hardy to head out to the ATV trail without a good map of the area. Some of ATV trails aren't exactly marked, and while you're rubber necking at the scenery, it's easy to loose your sense of exactly what trail you're on. And we highly recommend bringing water and extra fuel. Actually we can't recommend that enough, because with 20 miles of additional ATV trails beckoning, you don't want to limit you and your ATV's possibilities. Clint definitely isn't operating a Shell station and convenience store out here.
The Overlook motorized ATV Trail is the ride of a lifetime!

How to Keep Your Children Safe When on an ATV Trail Riding Trip
Trail riding your ATV is an activity the entire family can enjoy and being able to bring the kids along for the ride is a big bonus.
One of the biggest bonuses you can give your kids is to get them lessons from a DOT approved riding course. They will learn proper handling techniques, maneuvering skills and good safety practices to insure that all their ATV rides are safe ones.
Teach your children to do a basic pre-ride inspection. This simple step will save them a lot of grief and time when riding. Most problems start really small and learning to maintain their ATVs can't really start too early.
When riding on an ATV trail your children should be wearing proper safety gear. Make sure that your kids are wearing protective clothing. This includes a long sleeved shirt, long pants, gloves, boots, and chest protector. As far as safety equipment make sure your kids are wearing goggles and a full face helmet. There is debris and slapping tree branches on ATV trails and it's not fun to get debris in your eye or get slapped in the face by a tree branch bent forward by someone in front of you.
Which brings us to another point, teach your children to not follow too closely and teach them when fording a stream or when they are crossing any place on an ATV trail, to wait for the person behind them to catch up, everyone on the ATV trail should learn this technique.
Also teach your kids to stay on the designated trails and never got trail blazing as many trails are bordered by private property and should not be trespassed upon.

Find the Right Battery Powered Vehicle for your Children
Battery powered vehicles are a boon for small children. They love to feel independent and being able to drive their own battery powered vehicle is a way for them to feel that independence. Being able to control where they go and how they get to those places, even if it's only around the yard, will help build confidence and hand/eye coordination in your child. This leads to a real sense of pride and accomplishment.
If your child has never had the chance to ride on a battery-powered vehicle. Make sure your child is first of all ready for the responsibility of learning to control their vehicle. Second make sure your child gets instruction on how to control, start, stop, and steer their battery powered vehicle. The best way for your child to learn is to let them start off riding their battery powered vehicle on the lowest speed and make sure the area where your child is learning to ride is free from traffic and absolutely safe to ride on.
There are several kinds of battery powered vehicles for your child to choose from. All of them are durably built and sturdy rides. The batteries have a much longer life than the battery powered vehicles from even 5 years ago. These batteries are rechargeable and will last a long time giving your child years and years of fun use of their battery powered vehicle.
It is also a good idea to go ahead and purchase a replacement battery and when your child is riding their battery powered vehicle, simply take the other battery and swap them out when one needs to charge, that way your child can have hours and hours of fun on their batter powered vehicle.

Hatfield-McCoy Trails in West Virginia
The Hatfield-McCoy Trails in West Virginia are over 500 miles of ATV trails that wind through Logan, Mingo, Wyoming and Boone Counties and many of these ATV trails cross private lands. Preservation of these ATV trails and the following of the Treadlightly standards when riding is heavily touted.
One of the ways the ATV trails are kept so natural and lush is new trail systems are developed and older ATV trails are closed to allow the vegetation to reclaim itself and preserve the natural integrity of these ATV trails.
There are also plans to construct more loop systems with different levels of skill levels required to navigate on ATVs from easiest to most difficult to entice all ATV riders from the newest to the most seasoned of the lot.
There are also plans to develop ATV events that would be hosted to attract thousands of ATV trail users each year to southern West Virginia. This would not only promote the sport of ATVing, but the tourism industry in West Virginia as well.
In order to ride these ATV trails, you must have a valid Hatfield-McCoy Permit displayed in a clearly visible place on your ATV at all times and you must be wearing a DOT approved helmet and protective eye gear at all times when operating your ATV on these trails.
No passengers are allowed unless your ATV is specifically constructed for one passenger. No vehicle over 50 inches is allowed on any ATV trail, and of course, no alcoholic beverages can be consumed or carried on any of these ATV trails. The ATV trails are clearly marked and easy for even the newest ATV rider to follow and the ATV trails are open from sunrise to sunset.

Peekaboo Gulch Road And Your ATV
Peekaboo Gulch Road for ATVs covers 2.3 miles of really rough road. This ATV trail is part of San Isabel National Forest, and the trail leads ATV riders into an alpine valley. The ATV trail begins at South Fork Lake Creek Road and winds up just below Red Mountain.
To find Peekaboo Road ATV trail from the Twin lakes area, ATVers should head 8 miles west on Highway 82 all the way to South Fork Lake Creek Road, also known as Forest Road 391 which ATVers will see is on the left side of the highway. Stay on this 4WD road until you come to Forest Road 393 on your right. You have now reached Peekaboo Road ATV trail.
Because Peekaboo Gulch ATV trail is so rough, ATV riders need to keep safety protocol in mind. In the first place, every ATV rider should know that safety gear should be worn at all times when you're riding ATV trails. This includes your ATV helmet, gloves and googles, as well as your chest plate. Since this ATV trail is so bumpy, riders should slow down and take it easy. Never ride all out when there are obstacles in your path. Nobody wants to be involved in the aftermath of an ATV injury/accident.
ATV riding isn't especially difficult under most circumstances, but ATV riders need to use common sense. Know your abilities as an ATV rider and be honest with yourself. If you come to an especially difficult portion of trail and you're not sure if you'll be able to handle your ATV, then the best option is to turn back.
First and foremost, do not ride terrain beyond your ability. If you come upon a trail riding area or situation where you are unsure of how to handle the ATV or what you would do in a worst-case scenario, don't do it!
A little care can help make your ATVing experience great.

Enjoy The Overlooks When Riding Your ATV On Ranch Creek 4WD Road
Ranch Creek 4WD Road is a fantastic place to ride your ATV, and you're certain to enjoy the overlooks. The beginning of this ATV trail can eat ATV riders up with bug bites so be sure to pack plenty of bug spray.
This can be a particularly steep trail so it's best to keep some important ATV guidelines on mind. Do not ride closely on the tail of the ATV in front of you. It's completely possible that the other ATV rider may loose some traction, and you don't want your ATV to be the first thing behind him. Keep your ATV in low gear and take your time. Accidents can be avoided if you take your time, and who wants to spoil a good ATV ride?
You're riding on one of the more difficult ATV trails, so be sure you have enough ATV skills to maintain safety for your whole crew, and never leave the marked ATV trail.
Ranch Creek ATV trail stretches along four miles of White River National Forest, eventually taking ATVers to some spectacular overlooks. This area is actually famous for it's overlooks and ATV riders will have the opportunity to get great views of Mt. Elbert and Mt. Massive, as well as the Sawatch and Gorge Ranges, Camp Hale, and Homestake Peak. There are also three very old cabins along the way that are considered historic sights.
The season on this ATV trail runs from summer through fall. Other things to do in the Ranch Creek ATV trail area are 4 wheeling, motorcycling, and mountain biking. During those winter months that you can't ATV, the trail offers cross-country skiing and snowmobiling.
ATV riders should plan on spending the whole day at Ranch Creek, and it would be a crying shame if you forgot to bring your cameras.

Eklutna Lake ATV Trail
Ellutna Lake is a very busy Alaskan Lake that happens to have a very fun ATV trail around it. This level of difficulty is very easy and this is splendid place for beginners to learn to handle their ATVs, hone their trail riding skills, and learn greater maneuvering techniques on their ATVs.
These are multi-use ATV trails and you will run into people hiking, biking, backpacking, horseback riding, dog sledding, other ATVers, people who are Skiing and Snow machining. You will also see numerous people canoeing/kayaking out on the lake no matter what time of year it is.
The length of this ATV trail is 12 miles and there is a large amount of traffic on these ATV trails. This is also a good opportunity for newer ATV riders to learn to drive their ATVs friendly with other traffic in the area and learn proper techniques for when one meets up with hikers and horseback riders. To avoid spooking horses, always pull your ATV over and cut the engine. When the horseback rider is about 100 yards down the trail, restart your ATV and maintain a good safe distance between yourself and the horses.
The nearby Chugach Mountains surround this valley lake and this area is very scenic no matter what time of year you bring your ATV to this area to ride. The lakeside trail is an old road and very easy to navigate for newer ATVers as it is very level and wide, there are public use cabins available and you are allowed to set up a primitive campsite around this ATV trail in case you want to take it slow and just have a good weekend.
This is a great ATV ride for beginners as well the more experienced ATV riders.

ATV Riders Should See Dalton Highway
Dalton Highway is a fun ride for ATVers of every skill level. This scenic road is part of the Brooks Range and is considered a true ATVing adventure for North American ATV riders.
There is ample wildlife available, which will probably be checking you out as your ride your ATV in this area and some of the tundra citizens you have the potential of meeting are : arctic foxes, muskoxen (particularly north of Slope Mountain), caribou, peregrine falcons, golden eagles, and rough-legged hawks.
There is almost no gas services until the end on this ATV trail make sure that you have ample gas and everyone that you are riding ATVs with has a good supply with them. This area is a desolate and lonely area if you happen to get stranded without gasoline for your ATV.
Most of this trail is rated as easy, but at the 240 mile marker the elevation begins a 4700 steep, rocky climb and this is the part of the ATV rider more experienced ATVers will truly enjoy. Not only is this area full of scenic beauty and wildlife, it is also one extremely fun ride.
If you are a newer or inexperienced ATV rider, be sure to have someone along for the ride that is much more experienced. Additionally, Alaskan weather conditions are famous for their spur of the moment declines into something less than pleasurable. So make sure to pack along warmer clothing and basic necessities for your ride along the way. There is primitive camping allowed on this road and the standards of Treadlightly apply here. If you pack it in with you, pack it out and keep the Dalton Highway preserved for the next ATV rider so there will be years of fun at this location.

Ride your ATV at Chugach State Park

The Basics Of Riding ATVs For Beginners
ATV riding is fun and it can be even more fun if you know and follow the rules of the road and make safety your top priority.
First of all, read the manufacturers owner's manual that came with your ATV, any known limitations or specialty uses will be here. Learn everything you can about your individual ATV. ATVs handle differently from cars and motorcycles, and proper handling should be learned prior to taking on ATV trails.
Another basic rule of thumb when riding your ATV is learn to do a pre-ride inspection, simple things like learning your ATVs nuances and if you learn to do simple maintenance on your ATV now, you will save yourself hundreds upon hundreds of dollars in repairs down the road.
If you are a rider under the age of 16, it is a good idea and the law in many states that you must be supervised by an adult. In addition, follow the ATV Model Size and Minimum Age recommendations. Never attempt to operate an ATV that is more powerful than you are able to handle.
RIDER AGE & ENGINE SIZE ATV Size Minimum Age Under 70cc. . . . . . . . . 6 years and older 70-90cc. . . . . . . . . . .12 years and older Over 90cc. . . . . . . . . .16 years and older
As for areas to ride your ATV, make sure you have large, flat open areas to practice your ATV handing skills. Always keep both hands on your handlebars and both feet on your ATVs footrests. To remove your hands or feet could result in becoming unbalanced and tumbling off your ATV.
Spend some time and learn to brake properly, there are many courses taught at your local Department of Transportation where you can learn proper and safe handling of your ATV and other tips to make your ride not only a great one but a safe one as well!

Essential Equipment for Safe ATV Riding
The safety of ATVs has greatly improved on the ATVs themselves over the past few years with manufacturers listening to their customer's concerns and addressing them in the design of the newer model of ATV.
Many newer models of ATVs come with standard safety features such as hand guards which protect the ATV rider's hands in ways that gloves can not. Debris and branches can loosen grip on the handlebars, with hand guards molded out of heavy plastic, there is nothing getting to the rider's hands. Therefore, good grip and maneuvering of the ATV can be maintained.
Some essential equipment you should never ride your ATV without is of course starting with your DOT approved helmet. Never operate an ATV without a helmet on your head. There is no point in risking brain injury or even death because you think helmets are too heavy, not cool or you just do not wish to wear one. None of those are good reasons to not be safe when riding your ATV.
Eye protection is a big concern. Full visor helmets are a good start for protecting your eyes from flying debris and other objects when riding your ATV but it is just that, a good start. What you really need to wear when you are riding your ATV are some goggles. They keep flying debris out of your eyes and allow for better vision, by blocking the wind and other distractions from your eyes and line of sight.
Gloves, even if you are lucky enough to own a newer model ATV that has the hand guard, always wear your gloves. They are to help you keep your hands from getting injured from debris, branches and such when you're riding your ATV but also their purpose is to help you maintain your grip. Boots protect your ankles and shins from branches and other objects, and keeps your feet dry. A jacket is another must have as it protects your arms and body against cuts, bruises and scratches caused by tree limbs, rocks, etc.
Long pants protects your legs against engine and exhaust burns, also protects your legs against cuts, bruises and scratches by rocks and limbs.
You don't need a lot of safety gear to ride your ATV, but the essentials will make your ride a lot safer and better!

Basic Safety Tips For Kids When Riding Electric ATVs
Electric ATVs make great gifts for kids, but they come with some responsibilities for safety that must be learned prior to riding.
The Peg Perego line has a fun selection that was designed with safety in mind. Most of these electric ATVs have 3 gears : 1st, 2nd, and reverse. Children up to age 8 are the recommended riders for the majority of these ATV products.
First of all, no one knows your child better than you do. Ask yourself if your child is ready for this ATV, some children have fantastic eye/hand coordination at the age of 3 and others just don't develop those skills until later. Although these electric ATVs don't go fast, you want to be sure your child can properly maneuver his or her ATV. Sadly, the majority of the accidents that occur with kids and ATVs almost always could have been prevented by not allowing the child to ride their ATV unsupervised, making sure they were riding in a safe riding area with their ATVs, and lastly being certain the child always wears safety gear. When operating any ATV, electric or otherwise, always make sure your child is wearing a helmet, the younger the child, the larger and heavier their head and there is even more of a need for a helmet.
Do not allow your child to operate an electric ATV at night, they are not made for night time use, even under supervision, there could be something in the riding area (even in your own yard) that could be missed and cause an accident. Additionally, make sure your child knows to never carry passengers on their ATV, it's not safe and it is a leading cause of injuries that could have been prevented.
Electric ATVs can be a load of fun for your child as long as you choose a model made for the child's age/capabilities and give them some basic safety instructions, many good days of riding their ATVs are in store!

What To Look For When Buying An ATV For Your Child
When buying an ATV for your child, first of all you need to look objectively at your child and make sure he or she is ready for the responsibility of riding an ATV. Some children are mature enough to handle an ATV at an earlier age and others still aren't ready to handle an ATV at the age of 16. It really depends on the individual.
Next, you need to determine fit. Never put a child on an adult sized ATV and never put a child under 16 on an ATV over 90cc. Make sure the ATV has a speed limiter and a kill switch so the speed of the ATV can be limited while your child is learning to control the ATV.
Also, check steering radius and handling. The better the steering radius and the easier to handle there is less of a chance of your child losing control of their ATV. The braking system is another considering. Raceway ATVs nearly all have front drum and rear disc brakes for added safety when stopping.
Additionally, get your young rider some lessons from a seasoned ATVer. Most states have lessons for proper handling of your ATV conducted through the Department of Transportation. Even if you think you know everything a human being should about ATVs, you might miss something important, it's good to have your child take a structured ATV class.
Most of all, make sure your child understands that a helmet is to be worn at all times. One person joked with their child the ATV wouldn't power up unless the ATV rider was wearing a helmet. The running joke worked as the child never got to wear their ATV helmet.
An ATV is a big step for your child, if they are ready and you know the size ATV your child is ready to handle, get ready for some fun on the trails with your kids!

New Federal Report Shows That OHVs Are More Popular Than Ever
A recent study prepared by the Forest Service showed that OHV/ATVs have been the number one growing recreation group in the United States. This not only includes ATVs but dirt bikes as well, however ATVs were the fastest growing subdivision of this study.
OHV use is one of the fastest growing outdoor activities in the United States and use grew from 16% to nearly 24%. That is a huge increase in ATV and OHV recreational users. The Federal Land Management office acknowledge the need for more ATV trails for riders and the lack of trails was contributing to the erosion of some lands designated for ATV use.
Most Federal Land Management offices have created streamlined guidelines for ATV users on federal lands to avoid a negative OHV impact on these lands.
Additionally, this rapid growth in ATV use could lead to a rash of injuries among new ATV riders unless proper training is given. Most Federal Land Management offices have beefed up their promotion of safe riding techniques, and the taking of ATV riders' courses for any ATV rider so they may learn proper handling and navigation techniques to insure that not only do they have a good time with the ATV, they have a safe time as well.
Great rider education for newer ATVers is being touted and also safety campaigns to promote helmet and other safety gear use, especially the use of protective eye gear which is one of the number one injuries now for ATV users due to flying debris. There are an estimated 36 million OHV enthusiasts in America and that number is growing. There are more and more ATV owners and greater numbers of younger riders are appearing in the sport with each passing month.
