Looking For ATV Fun? Try Smuggler Mountain Improved Road.
Smuggler Mountain and Improved Road offers a lot of fun for ATV riders. This ATV trail has become very popular with more than just ATV enthusiasts. Folks are flocking to the trails for hiking, biking and more.
Smuggler Road ATV trail isn't the longest trail you'll ever ride, but the gorgeous views of Aspen have made it a very popular place to be. There is a section of trail going through Hunter Creek which isn't so heavily used, so ATVers have more freedom to ride.
The ATV trail is fairly well maintained by the White River National Forest parks system, but the ascent is truly steep, so you're going to need 4 wheel drive to get you up the hill.
ATVers will find the switchbacks get longer as the road curves behind Smuggler Mountain. Watch for a short steep path on the right that will take your ATV to a viewing platform where you can get a spectacular view of Aspen.
Next stop Hunter Creek. Turn your ATV to the left just after the platform, and be sure to stay on the main ATV trail because there are a couple of side roads to get lost on. Eventually you'll come to a gate, just drive your ATV around it and keep heading up the hill. You'll come to an old bridge. Cross the bridge, turn left and follow the ATV trail along the west side of the river and turn right onto the single track Hunter Creek ATV Trail which leads to the Sunnyside Trail, Van Horn Park, and Lenado.
The single track ATV trail will take you through the meadow and then descend fairly steeply through the trees until you cross Benedict Bridge. Stay straight, and the ATV trail soon reaches the paved road of Hunter Creek. Turn left and follow Hunter Creek Road to the intersection of Red Mountain Road. Take another left and follow Red Mountain Road back to Aspen.
Smuggler Mountain Road ATV trail is truly a great ride.

Reasons Why It Is Fun To Go To ATV Trails Instead Of Staying Home
Whoever said there's no place like home probably didn't own an ATV! Why would anyone in their right mind want to sit at home watching other people's lives on the tube when they could be taking life by the horns and riding the ATV trails.
Believe me, when it comes to viewing the great outdoors, a documentary just isn't going to do it. Close your eyes and imagine yourself on your ATV high on a mountain ridge looking down into a scenic valley. Feel the warm afternoon sun on your face. Smell the air so light and fresh it feels like it will carry you away. Can you imagine it? Well you don't have to imagine it, your ATV can take you to just such a place at Red Tables ATV trail.
Colorado State is literally criss-crossed with dozens of terrific ATV trails, each offering their own unique blend of thrills. Would you like the opportunity to view wildlife living much the way they have for hundreds of years? Then try Sand Wash Basin ATV trail where you really can see the deer, and the (pronghorn) antelope play.
And when you and your ATV are ready to really live on the edge, and I mean that literally, Schofield Pass ATV trail will take you to a place called the Devil's Punch Bowl, where the road has been cut out from the granite face of an overhang high above the Crystal River.
The sport of ATVing grows bigger every year, and new ATV trails are being opened all the time.
A world of adventure awaits you when you own an ATV. Now doesn't that make you want to get off that couch?

Do The Snowslide Trail #1318 With Your ATV.
You've just got to try the Snowslide ATV trail #1318! Located long 5.6 miles of San Isabel National Forest, This lightly used ATV trail certainly has it's ups and downs. And we mean just that.
Snowslide ATV Trail begins with a fairly steep ascent up a gravel road. But don't relax yet ATV fans, because as soon as it mellows out it begins to go steep again. About 4 miles from the highway the ATV trail begins some more steep switchbacks through timberland. Eventually you and your ATV will come out to a patch of snow that is almost always there. You may actually be able to see it from I-25 when you drive in. It's a good thing though, since there are no creeks to provide water in this area. The closest spring is about 3.5 miles from the trail's head.
The park system rates this ATV trail as moderate to difficult and the season runs from mid-June through mid-October
The quickest way to get to Snowslide ATV trail from the Lake Isabel Recreation Area is to head 1 mile south of Lake Isabel on Highway 165. Watch for the sign next to the road. Or ATV enthusiasts can drive a total of 24 miles from Lake Isabel. Go north on Highway 165 to the Ophir Creek Road. Be sure to follow the better road to the left which is Greenhorn Mountain Road. The Snowslide trailhead is just past where Cisneros Trail crosses the road and Pole Creek Trail ends.
As always, the parks system requires ATV riders to follow some basic rules. You'll need your ATV permit to ride, and you'll need to make sure the muffler and spark arrestor on your ATV are in working order. Be sure to keep your ATV on the trails, no off roading. For further tips on successful ATVing consult your Treadlightly manual.

Should I Give my Child An ATV For Christmas?
So, it's time to start thinking about Christmas gifts and you wonder if the ATV your kids keep asking for is really a good idea as a Christmas gift. There has been a lot of bad press about kids and ATVs and some very tragic accidents, the saddest part of those reports is that with proper training, supervision, and safety equipment, most if not all of those accidents could have been prevented.
ATVs in the range of 70cc to 90cc are best for most kids ages 12-16. For children under the age of 12 the ATV should be under 70cc.
Shifting is hard for many children to get the hang of, consider getting an automatic ATV for them to learn to ride, so shifting gears is one less thing for them to worry about when they are learning to ride and be safe on their ATVs.
We are very big on fun and even bigger on safety. There is no reason to consider riding an ATV if you aren't going to ride safely. There are numerous ATV riding classes you can take with your kids and safety equipment should be a high priority.
If your kids are wanting an ATV for Christmas, make sure to obtain the best safety equipment. A DOT approved helmet is a must, do not try to safe money by purchasing a used helmet. A helmet is good for only one impact. If a used helmet has been in an impact or even dropped from a fair height, the integrity of the helmet has been compromised. There are other safety issues such as chest protections, goggles, long sleeves covering arms and high boots on the legs.
If your kids want an ATV for Christmas, congratulate them on their good taste but remember to get them up to speed on their safety equipment.

Kazuma SFX 110 CC ATV Review
This sporty mid-size ATV comes standard with headlight, speed limiter and horn. This is an ideal ATV for kids ages 12-16.
The Kazuma SFX 110 which looks just like the MKII 110 but this unit is 26" from the ground to the top of the seat where the MKII 110 is 31 1/2. This is a much more streamlined ATV. It currently comes in black, blue and red and has a definite edge in style over previously issued models. This is one fun looking ATV ride.
The measurements on this ATV are 56.7" in length x 31.3" width x 35.1" height. The engine on the Kazuma SFX 110 is a 108cc 4 stroke single cylinder engine that is air cooled system. There is no mixing the oil and gas, you just fill up the tank and go.
This ATV pulls 7 horsepower at 8000RPM and insures a powerful ride for its size. This ATV has an electric start that comes complete with a set of keys just in case and transmission is a 3 speed semi-automatic with that handy dandy reverse gear. There is no hand clutch.
The weight of this ATV comes in at 228LBS and is a good sturdy ride, especially for beginning ATVers. The tires are 19 inches and there are front and rear drum brakes on this ATV.
This ATV has a top speed of 35-40MPH and has a speed limiter that can make the ATV not much faster than the speed of a slow walk for beginning rider's safety. The shocks in this model have been well thought out with dual front shocks and rear mono shock to insure a stable ride.
The Kazuma SFX 110 ATV is an awesome new ride - if you're looking for an ATV for someone between the ages of 12-16, this ATV is an ideal ride for them.

Why Is Keepachildalive.org Important?
Keep A Child Alive does amazing work for children with HIV/AIDS. Statistics show there are nearly 3 million children living with HIV/AIDS today. Most of them reside in extremely poverty stricken countries such as Africa and India. A sobering statistic shows another 700,000 more children are infected with HIV. Unfortunately, more than half die before the age of two and the majority of the rest die before reaching the age of 5.
A positive development for these children is that in USA, HIV/AIDS has gone from being an automatic death sentence to a chronic yet manageable condition through the invention of antiretroviral medicines (ARVs). Since most people infected with HIV/AIDS live in impoverished countries that can't afford these medicines, they urgently need treatment.
That is where Keep A Child Alive comes in. This organization is trying to get the ARVs to those infected with HIV/AIDS in the impoverished countries. A truly saddening statistic is that the majority of children born with AIDS become orphans as their parents were already infected and that the virus was passed to the child in utero. Keep A Child Alive is working to make ARVs available to pregnant women who are infected with HIV, to stop the transmission of the virus to their children and thereby stop the spread of this disease.
Keep A Child Alive is a unique organization that is working hard to provide lifesaving AIDS medicines directly to children and families with HIV/AIDS. They only ask for a dollar a day or a monthly contribution of just $30.
Skipping a meal out or just gathering up your spare change on your dresser cna can make an incredible change in someone else's. It can actually save a life. The contributions to Keep A Child Alive go directly to children and families who desperately need the ARVs. You will be kept up to date where your donations go and have the knowledge you are truly helping children live longer, happier lives.

Redcat DX 200 - 200cc ATV
This full sized ATV is a great ride for anyone that wants a good full size ATV with a lot of stylish looks and power in the engine where it counts. This ATV sports a 5 speed transmission and does include the reverse gear. There is no chain driven transmission on this ATV as its built as a shift drive.
The top speed of this ATV is around 45MPH, and comes with a speed limitor if you have a newer or inexperienced ATV rider. The suspension makes this ATV special with its dual A-Arm front suspension that was especially designed to hand those rough rides on your ATV that make it worth the drive for the ride! This ATV doesn't have the top-heaviness a lot of larger ATVs have, and is a very balanced ride.
Standard features are the front drum and rear disc brake system which is one of the safest rides you can get on an ATV. There is also a manual choke system so you can control your engine better. Electrical chokes generally leave a lot to be desired when installed on ATVs.
The lower gears are for power for getting over that rough terrain and the higher gears are for speed. This ATV gives you the best of both worlds on your ride. You can handle just about any terrain that happens to be in the path of your ATV and you can navigate flat lands and level trails quickly and with ease. There are front and rear racks for carrying a variety of items you might need on your ATV ride and the racks are made of metal and made to be sturdy.
Make sure to always wear your helmet and other safety gear when riding your ATV and insure the safest and best ride every time.

Ways To Effectively "Leave No Trace" When Riding Your ATV
Riding an ATV is fun, in fact, it is a whole lot of fun. Safety is a big concern when riding your ATV, but there is another concern you should have when riding your ATV. The effects on the environment can not be discounted.
When riding your ATV stay on marked trails and never go trailblazing as most ATV trails are carefully maintained to allow riding on one area of an ATV trail, and then periodically those ATV trails are retired and the land is allowed to reclaim itself and different ATV trails are opened up. This careful planning and rotation of ATV trails insures that there are good rides for you now and future generations of ATV riders.
Also, Treadlightly.org has published some fantastic standards for ATV riders that protect the land and wilderness and most are just mainly good old common sense. Learning proper handling techniques is a great way to help protect the land your ride your ATV on, a really big issue is many inexperienced ATV riders try to navigate hills and other inclines by going slightly sideways on their ATVs, this not only wrecks the land beneath your wheels, it puts you in great danger of having your ATV which weighs in the neighborhood of 200+ pounds of turning over upon you.
Another careful consideration when riding your ATV is the navigation of creeks and streams, most ATV trails have carefully constructed crossing areas so there is minimal damage to the water areas.
If everyone adheres to these standards when riding their ATVs there are good times in store for all ATV riders now and in the future.

Go Carts are awesome gifts for the kid that loves to race. The Go Quad go cart is a great gift with its hand powered controls and clever drive system, will delight any child.
This great go cart was developed in 1989 to fit into a standard car trunk, yet can carry the weight of an adult, and weighs less than 40LBS itself.
Another fantastic gift for a young person you want to make smile on their special day is a scooter. The Sport S25 Scooter is a great gift. This amazing scooter gets over 200 miles per gallon and is a very lightweight ride weighing in at only 25LBS. Your young person can also know they are using an enviromentally friendly form of transportation with this scooter as it produces less emissions than other other petroleum based transportation device.
Proper riding techniques should be taught to your young riders no matter if you get them a go cart or a scooter. Young riders should never be left unsupervised and these vehicles should never be operated without proper safety equipment. Especially a DOT approved helmet. Addtionally, there are lessons available in your local area for developing handling skills on both go carts and scooters. Even if you are a seasoned rider, letting your young rider take some lessons from a professional instructor is always a good idea.

Are ATV Boots Important?
Riding an ATV is fun, in fact, it's just about as much fun as a person can have legally! Proper ATV safety gear is a must. You've been talked to until you're blue in the face about ATV helmets, and taking ATV lessons and we hope you take all those tips absolutely seriously, but a part of ATV safety gear a lot of people overlook is the humble boot.
Boots are very necessary when riding your ATV as they protect your legs from slapping branches, flying debris, burns, and abrasions. There is nothing worse than having a branch slap into your shin when you're going about 15MPH on your ATV, it can feel like a whip and if you're bare legged or wearing thin pants, it can actually cut your leg.
Boots can feel heavy at first due to the extra padding and for that reason sometimes people don't like to wear them at first but weighed against the cost of a ruined ATV ride because of a burned shin or injury from flying debris or a tree limb is a small price to pay.
ATV boots come in many styles and colors and there is literally something for everyone. Look into getting a good pair of ATV boots, there is nothing wrong with being as safe as possible when riding your ATV and boots are a good addition to your safety gear.
Your boots should last your for many years of riding on your ATV with proper care, read the manufacturers instructions for taking care of your boots and you and your ATV will have many safe years of riding!

ATV Riders Should See the South Fork Lake Creek Road
Beautiful mountain scenery and wildlife await you when you go ATVing at South Fork Lake Creek Road. This moderately difficult 5.5 mile ATV trail takes you through the San Isabel National Forest. This trail is an ATV rider's dream.
To get to this awesome ATV trail from the Twin Lakes Village area, ATVers will need to head 8 miles west of Twin Lakes Village on Highway 82 to South Fork Lake Creek Road. This is Forest Road 391 and will be on the left (south) side of the highway.
The ATV trail winds around the valley floor of the South Fork of Lake Creek. South Fork Lake Creek Road provides ATV riders with excellent opportunities to see a variety of wildlife as well as a spectacular display of wild flowers in season. And ATV enthusiasts who also enjoy camping will be happy to know that there are several campgrounds to rough it at along the route.
The beginning of the ATV trail takes you through some private property so show respect for the owners and stay on the road, and try to keep the noise and dust to a minimum. Careless operation of your ATV could result in closure of the trail.
ATVers who choose to take advantage of the camping opportunities should keep a few environmental tips in mind. Practice minimum impact camping by using established sites when available, and minimize the use of fire. ATVers should also observe proper sanitary disposal methods and bury waste 6 to 8 inches deep and at least 200 feet away from campsites, trails and water sources.
ATV riders will also need the proper permit to ride the trail. Be sure to carry a map of the area and walkie talkies or cell phones in case of emergencies. Planning ahead will help ensure a great time on the ATV trail.

Beginning ATV Riders Should Check out Slate and Gothic Roads
Slate and Gothic Roads are a great way for beginning ATV riders to get a glimpse of the back country in the Crested Butte area in Colorado. These are easy starter trails and new ATV enthusiasts should be able to navigate them quite nicely.
Both of these ATV trails are well maintained and easy enough to traverse if you have 4-wheel drive.
ATVers should take some time for sightseeing when they reach Paradise Divide. Get off your ATV and walk around and enjoy the views, because they are spectacular. Be advised, ATVs are not allowed off road in the wilderness areas, so only check them out on foot.
The Slate Road ATV trail will take you to Gunsight Pass. This ATV trail is a bit more difficult than Slate, and you have to go through the creek to access the trail. Remember to use extreme caution whenever crossing water on your ATV. Gunsight Pass comes to a dead end pretty quickly, but ATV riders will love the view of Crested Butte.
The Gothic Road ATV trail is generally considered easier than Slate road but the surrounding beauty makes up for the lack of challenge. Eventually ATVers will reach the Town of Gothic. Consider yourself warned ahead of time, there are plenty of speed limit signs posted and you don't want to wind up with a ticket as your only souvenir of the ride. ATVs should stay on Washington Road FR811. When the Slate and Gothic roads come back together they will make a loop and take you back to Crested Butte.
As a general rule, ATV trail users should be aware of the need for trail courtesy. Yield the right of way to bikers and hikers. As ATVing becomes more popular, the trails become more crowded. A few good manners will make your ATV experience a pleasant one.

Take Your ATV to Scotty's Motorized Trail
Are you an ATV rider looking for an ATV trail that is fun, but no cake walk? You should give Scotty's Motorized trail a try.
Load up the ATV, and from Sedalia you will travel southwest on Highway 67. Turn left onto Rampart Range Road, another excellent ATV trail, and follow this to FDR 507. Then turn left onto Road 507 and keep going until you reach the beginning of Scotty's Trail #681, which is on the right.
Scotty's ATV trail #681 is a 6.8 mile stretch of road that serves as a connecting route from the ATV trails in the north to the southern ATV trails in the system. Pike National Forest service manages this area and gives this ATV trail an intermediate to expert level rating. You'll need to follow the park's rules and have an ATV permit in order to ride. Be sure you keep it prominently displayed. Mufflers and spark arrestors are also mandatory.
A few do's and don't can help ATV riders be prepared and have a better time on the trails.
Do:
Wear your ATV safety gear. Make sure your ATV is mechanically up to the task. Be prepared with tools and supplies for roadside repairs. Know your limitations. Watch your time, and fuel supply.
Don't:
Ride your ATV while under the influence of drugs/alcohol. Ride your ATV alone on the trails. Ride you ATV in wetlands and marshes. Trespass on private property. Just stick to the trail.
Common sense goes a long way when you are planning an outing on your ATV. It's a terrific sport that offers the opportunity to see areas of the wilderness that just wouldn't be available to you with a passenger vehicle. Do your part to keep ATV trails open and available for all of us.

Schofield Pass for ATV Riders
If you're an ATV rider looking for a trail with varying levels of difficulty then maybe you want to give the ATV trail at Schofield Pass a shot.
This ATV trail starts out deceptively easy, but quickly turns into one of the most difficult and dangerous ATV trails in all of Colorado. The pass is considered a long shortcut between the towns of Marble and Crested Butte, and you and your ATV will generally be following the Crystal River.
There is no upkeep of this ATV trail as the county considers it a closed road. ATVers should check out road conditions ahead of time. The weather can be treacherous, and there are often winter avalanches that don't fully melt until the middle of summer. ATV riders may also encounter rock slides that have yet to be cleared away.
On one especially dangerous portion of this ATV trail, the road is carved out of a sheer granite face, barely wide enough for one jeep to pass. There is nothing but a sheer cliff dropping off beneath you into the Crystal River. You can look down from your ATV into an area known as The Devil's Punchbowl. Here lie the remains of wrecked jeeps that have tumbled off the cliff and piled on top of one another. Over a dozen people have died in jeep accidents in that spot. ATV riders will want to tread very carefully here.
The ATV trail delivers you to the old mining town site of Schofield, which lies in a flat mountain park in between Crystal, and the Devil's Punchbowl. Once you've reached Schofield, the ATV trail is fairly smooth driving the rest of the way to the old mining town of Gothic, a few miles from Crested Butte.
Schofield Pass is not for the timid ATV rider, if there can be such a person.

Ride Your ATV at Sand Wash Basin
What could be more fun than riding your ATV at Sand Wash Basin? Tucked into the northwest Moffat County region of Colorado, near Maybell, this prime set of ATV trails is easy to reach from Highway 318.
Modern day cowboys can saddle up their ATVs and ride the range... uh, we mean trails... because Sand Wash Basin is chocked full of dirt roads just begging you to rev up your ATV and set off into the wilderness. Just be careful to watch the weather though. This area can become a mud bath when it rains.

Riding An ATV AT Radical Hill
Radical Hill in Colorado provides yet another thrill for the avid ATV fan. Lots of rugged, rocky mountain terrain to challenge your ATV skills, and maybe even teach you a few new ones.
The view from the top of Mt. Wise will take your breath away. Blue sky meets the mountain tops for miles. Along the ATV trail you'll find an old cabin near the top of Radical Hill that is a great place to stop and get a spectacular look at the picturesque valley below. And the countryside isn't the only thing you'll see. ATVers aren't the only creatures enjoying Radical Hill. There's a pretty decent population of mountain goats all along the trail, and everyone knows, mountain goats are God's original little ATVs.
The ATV trail at Radical Hills covers over 20 miles, looping all around the Swan River area. Much of the adjacent ATV trail stays above the tree line. This ATV trail will keep you riding all day if you take time to see all the natural sights.
Let's take a virtual tour of the ATV route.
Follow ATV trail 285 toward Webster Pass and then turn at the sign toward Deer Creek. Stay above the tree line and follow the signs to the North fork of the Swan River. Turn left at Swan River and follow the trail to the Middle Fork of the Swan River. ATV Trail 6 will take you back to the top of the Mountain. Turn left at the top and follow the signs to Deer Creek and Montezuma. This will take you back to the parking area.
A few tips for ATVers riding the Colorado trails:
Weather can change fast. Start the ATV trail early in the morning to avoid afternoon thunderstorms.
Always go ATVing with a partner and let some one know what ATV trail you are using and when you'll be back.
Make sure your ATV is in good condition before you begin.
Alway use safety equipment such as a helmet and goggles when riding your ATV.
Bring along extra gas for those long ATV trails. Pushing an ATV is a lot less fun than riding one!

Riding Pole Creek - Cataract Lake With Your ATV
Attention all avid ATVers!
If you're looking to ride the continental divide with your ATV, head up to the Riding Pole Creek - Cataract Lake ATV trail near Creede, Colorado. Located in the gorgeous but rugged Rio Grande National Forest area, this ATV trail serves as the link between Lost Trail Creek and Pole Creek's drainage area.
The ATV trail begins right after it first crosses Pole Creek, and since it isn't heavily used, you and your ATV will have plenty of room to explore. At 3.4 miles, it's one of the shorter ATV trails, but the degree of difficulty is moderate, offering just enough challenge to keep a seasoned ATVer happy. Just watch out for steep pitches, and keep your eyes peeled because the junction with ATV trail West Lost Creek isn't marked and you may just miss it. The ATV trail takes you above the timberline for some breathtaking views. The season runs from June to September.
When you're ready to let your ATV cool down there is plenty more to do in this scenic region. Hiking and horseback riding are great ways to pass some quality time and get a closer look at the flora and fauna along the trails. If you still need that motorized thrill, try motorcycling. And if you have true grit, you can pretend you're Lance Armstong at the Tour de France, but you're gonna need a mountain bike for this terrain.
This ATV riding area falls under the jurisdiction of the Rio Grande National Forest department, so the usual rules for ATVs apply. Make sure your ATV permit is in order, and give that muffler and spark arrester a check before you start out. Be kind to the environment and stick to the ATV trail.

San Luis Pass To Sprint Creek Pass ATV Trail
If you're looking for an ATV trail with a moderate to difficult degree of challenge, try out San Luis Pass to Sprint Creek Pass.
From June to mid-October you can ATV through 14.5 miles of scenic territory near Rio Grande National Forest.Since this area falls under park management, you'll need to get a permit to operate your ATV, and have it displayed where it can easily be seen. As always, mufflers and spark arrestors must be in good working order, so check them before you begin the ATV trail.
Travelling the Continental Divide on your ATV takes you from the San Luis Pass to Spring Creek Pass trail. Portions of this ATV trail have been relocated and developed and Colorado Trail markers have been erected which should make it easier to follow the Continental Divide ATV Trail, as well as the Colorado ATV Trail.
This challenging ATV trail begins at an elevation of 11,930 feet and ends at 10,898 feet.
ATV enthusiasts should take Highway 149 to Creede, Colorado. Once you're in Creede, head north on the town's main street. At the north edge of town, you'll find yourself heading into a dramatic, steep-walled, narrow canyon. A 1/2 mile beyond Creede, keep heading straight on Forest Development Road 503 and follow the fork to your right. Your ATV will need a good first gear and ground clearance for these extremely steep roads. Follow FDR 503 about 6 1/2 miles to the end of the dirt road at the entrance to the Equity Mine. There's a small parking area for 2WD vehicles. Take your ATV and follow FDR 503 north up the valley for another 1.6 miles, until it bears to the left (west) and climbs steeply over the high ridge.
You and your ATV will find yourselves welcomed at the campground near Miner's Creek.

Only Expert ATV Riders Should Try South Halfmoon Road
South Halfmoon Road ATV trail in Colorado should only be considered suitable for experienced ATV riders. This ATV trail is a very rough four-wheel drive road with some very difficult stream crossings. Extreme caution should be used! Experienced ATV riders only should attempt this. As the road climbs it takes your ATV into a large open alpine basin where an old mine is located.
This extremely challenging ATV trail takes riders through 4.6 miles of San Isabel National Forest, and the season runs May through October.
You can get to the ATV trail by heading 3 miles southwest from Leadville on Highway 24. Make a right on to Highway 300 and head toward the Leadville National Fish Hatchery. Go about 1 mile down the road to State Highway 11, which eventually turns into Forest Road 110, Halfmoon Road. Drive 9.1 miles west on Halfmoon Road. South Halfmoon Road is on the left side of the road just 2 miles past the Mt. Massive/Mt. Elbert Trailhead.
Since this can be a very dangerous ATV trail, let's talk about some safety precautions that may well save your neck. As we mentioned before, this trail presents difficulties for even the most seasoned ATV rider. Crossing these streams with an ATV can be treacherous, so minimize the risk by only crossing at designated fording points or where the ATV trail is actually meant to cross the stream. ATV riders should stay in open areas and only ride on approved ATV trails. On slick parts of the trail, ease off on your ATV's throttle and use the clutch to gain maximum traction with less tailspin.
The experienced ATV rider should know it's never a good idea to ride alone, so take some buddies with you and be sure someone knows the trail you intend to ride.

ATVing Sayers Gulch Road
There is no better time than riding in the fresh open air on your ATV and Sayers Gulch Road offers the opportunity to hit the ATV trail.
While Sayers Gulch ATV trail is not terribly long, just 2.1 miles in length, it does offer quite a ride through the San Isabel National Forest region. ATV riders will begin the trail at south Fork Lake Creek Road, approximately 2.7 miles southwest of Highway 82. The road ends at the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness boundary.
ATVers be warned, Sayers Gulch is a pretty rough road with a significant stream crossing at the beginning of the route. The stream can rise rapidly when it rains, becoming more dangerous than it looks. The ATV trail continues into an alpine valley filled with willow bushes and beaver ponds. Watch out for hikers gaining access to the Sayers Gulch Trail, # 1465, and the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness from Sayers Gulch Road.
Since this area is under park management , this may be a good point to review a few of the rules for ATV riders. Stay on designated trails for ATVs and don't travel off road. Cross streams only at designated fording points or where the trail is meant to cross the stream. ATVers should always wear their safety gear and never ride the trails alone. Always take two or three other ATV riding fools with you.
A few environmental reminders are also in order. Carry a trash bag on your ATV and don't be afraid to pick up stray trash left by others.
ATV riding gives you the opportunity to get away from the pressures of everyday life, and can be a great sport for the whole family. Being careless on the trails could result in having them closed to ATVs. A little common sense and courtesy will help ensure that ATV riders always have new horizons to travel.

ATVing Pool Table Road 600
Are you and your ATV looking to spend quality time together? Pool Table Road 600 is a beautiful place to go ATVing and more all year round. This ATV trail is located along 9.4 miles of piney forest in the beautiful Rio Grande River Valley region near Creede, Colorado. The first third of the ATV trail offers some awesome views into the valley, while the rest of the trail takes you and your ATV into timber country.
Although this initial portion of the ATV trail is somewhat remote, it is suitable for cars, and you'll probably run across (not literally, we hope) sightseers taking in the fall colors come September. And be prepared boy scouts, if you plan to spend a couple days ATVing, you'll be roughing it. The sole amenity is a pit toilet!
The going gets pretty rough as you head up the gravel road to the Wheeler Geologic area. You and your ATV will be leaving the tourists in their Volvos back in the dust, but watch out for those logging trucks. We did mention the piney forests, right?
Pool Table Road 600 ATV trails offer year round fun too. During winter, the ATV trail into Wheeler is maintained for snowmobilers so park your ATV. If cross-country skiing is your thing, try some of the horse trails. Snow shoeing, you ask? You bet. But be warned, this is tough country in the winter, and only the hearty and the experienced should even think about attempting to camp overnight. The local Motel 8 is just an ice cave, and believe us, you can't call for extra towels.
Be sure to remember the rules for good ATVing. Be sure you have the required ATV permit, muffler and spark arrester. And if you really were a scout, remember "leave no trace camping"? The same rules apply here. If you bring it in on your ATV with you, bring it out on your ATV when you leave.

Rainbow Trail #1336 E-F Can Be A Thrill On An ATV
Come feel the thrill of riding your ATV on Rainbow Trail #1336 in Salida Colorado. This moderately challenging ATV trail runs for 13.5 miles from Big Cottonwood Creek to Stout Creek.
Plan to bring your camping gear because you'll want to take advantage of one of two campgrounds you'll come to as the ATV trail takes you past Hayden's Creek. These are developed campgrounds complete with toilets, tables and fireplaces that weary ATVers will appreciate.
ATVers should keep these environmental tips in mind while enjoying the natural beauty of these surroundings:
1. Respect the land, wildlife, local residents and your fellow ATVers. Tread lightly and stay on approved ATV trails.
2. ATVers, like everyone else, should properly dispose of their trash and leave the campground better than they found it. Don't be afraid to pick up other trash you may find. We all need to do what we can to keep the trails beautiful.
3. One not so environmental tip for ATVers; Bring a camera because you're going to want photos to show the folks back home.
It might interest ATVers to know that back in the 1800's, Hayden Pass, just west of Hayden Creek, was used as a short cut to the San Luis Valley. Today it's a popular 4WD and ATV road over the Sangre de Christo Range. Though full of the steep, rough terrain ATVers live for, it offers excellent views of the area. The area to the west of the Rainbow Trail is wilderness and ATVs and other motorized vehicles are not allowed. This section of the Rainbow Trail offers excellent views of the Arkansas River Valley and surrounding terrain.
Colorado offers so many ATV trails filled with natural wonders, it will probably take the rest of your life to explore them all.
