KATVA, Premier ATV Club in Kansas
ATVs, or all terrain vehicles, are fun, but where can you find others who enjoy this outdoor activity? Try joining an ATV club in Kansas.
One of the most well known groups in Kansas is the Kansas ATV Association, better known as KATVA. This club was started in Olathe, Kansas. This group was founded in 1987 with just 9 members, but now boasts over 300 active participants in three different chapters.
This active group has been instrumental in increasing the amount of trails in the state. Their involvement helped the trail area in Lake Perry grow from 18 acres to about 200. This group does more than just get together socially. They build trails and fences, install bathrooms and clear paths. Working with the Army Corps of Engineers, they have also opened trails in the Pomona Lake area, making this one of the premier ATV areas in the state. A special children's riding area, picnic benches and playgrounds are just some of the features of this park, which the club now leases. There are even campsites and electricity available. Membership in the group allows ATV riders access to this area.
The club also makes service a priority, with the membership participating in clean up days at local ATV trail parks. A schedule of events is posted on their website, and a work day is required of all members.
KATVA is totally dedicated to safety as well. One of their mottos is "Family Fun with Safety Number One,' and as a whole, the club lives up to the slogan. Everyone wears safety gear, including helmets.

My Area Doesn't Offer An ATV Safety Class - What Should I Do?

If you've found yourself in this situation, don't worry, there's still hope. As they say, where there is a will, there is a way!
One option is to collect tons of free training materials from both ATV manufacturers and areas that do offer an ATV safety class to its citizens. You can do this by requesting information by phone, fax or online. There are a myriad of videos, CD-ROMS, DVD's, and printed materials out there designed to either institute or supplement an ATV safety course. And, better yet, most of these materials can be gathered together free of charge.

ATV riding tip 1: Focus on the direction you want to go. When making a turn, look in that direction to get a better focus. This helps with steering.
