Southwest Colorado 4-Wheeling and Rock Climbing

There is a very fun riding destination located in the Southwest Region of Colorado and is a lot of fun for the more experienced 4-wheeler rider. The Wheeler Geo area is a multi-use trail and you will run into other traffic on this 4-wheeler trail ranging from other 4-wheelers to horseback riders to mountain bikers. This area is managed by the Rio Grande National Forest office and is open all year around.

This isn't the longest 4-wheeler trail you'll find but it certainly has a lot of personality in its difficulty level. This 4-wheeler trail is scenic and primitive and most surprisingly, despite its difficulty rating, this 4-wheeler trail gets a lot of traffic.

This is an extremely scenic and remote 4-wheeler road. It is primitive makes for a great ride on your 4-wheeler. The road is fairly level and with only 540 feet difference between its lowest and highest points. While its not an uneven ride for your 4-wheeler, you will find it is a rough one and can be very slow with much of the roadbed made up of embedded rocks, if climbing rocks on your 4-wheeler is what you love to do, this is the trail for you.

A round trip takes an average of 7 to 7 1/2 hours and that doesn't include any time that you might spend parking your 4-wheeler and exploring Wheeler Geologic Area itself. For maximum ride time, leave early, to allow yourself sufficient time for the trip, and time to explore, take pictures, etc. Leaving Creede between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. should allow you enough time, with arrival back in Creede between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Towards the end of the trail you will find suitable areas for primitive campsites in case you plan to overnight it in this area. Take your time on this 4-wheeler road and enjoy the scenary and don't rush the ride and you're assured of a great time!
