California has some outstanding places to go 4-wheeling. If you're looking for some great places to ride your 4-wheeler, the Dury and Ershim trail might be the answer to your quest for a great ride. This 33-mile long 4-wheeler trail has a lot to offer up for a day or so of fun 4-wheeler riding. It is basically a pathway between two wilderness areas in the Sierra National Forest of central California. With John Muir to the East and Dinky Lakes to the West, this Southern corridor is the only motor vehicle route through the National Forest.
As with all National Forest managed lands make sure you have your 4-wheeler permit displayed in a prominent place and you have a spark arrestor and muffler in place on your 4-wheeler. California has strict emissions regulations, make sure that your 4-wheeler is green stickered.
Most people start this 4-wheeler trail at the Southern end, but due to the crowds you may want to begin in the North at Kaiser Pass.Your 4-wheeler will be traveling up on a small slope to about 6,000 feet in elevation when you reach Shaver Lake. This is the last place you can get supplies for your 4-wheeler ride. If you need it, pack it on here. If you need bathroom facilities, in something unusual for most national forest managed lands, these 4-wheeler trails have facilities available at Badger Flat's. If you want to set up camp in these areas, it is permissible. Park your 4-wheelers and have a great night. Just remember, there are no trash bins here, if you bring it in with you, bring it out.

Rest often if you aren't used to riding your 4-wheeler in this type of climate. The weather is normally clear and nice no matter what time of year your ride here.
