4-Wheeling in Navajo Country

Northeast Arizona has some outstanding areas to ride your 4-wheeler. The Canyon de Chelly National Monument is a blast to ride on your 4-wheeler. It is not for the newer or inexperienced 4-wheeler rider but more experienced riders will love the challenges in this area. Do be aware that this is Navajo country and tribal regulations are adhered to as any other laws.

As you ride your 4-wheeler in this area, you will find this is truly wilderness area. It is out of the way and cell phone reception is fare to nonexistent. You will however find a huge number of scenic areas and beautiful natural walls. If you love history, there are Anasazi ruins to see and the Navajo Indians still call the canyon valley home.

There are four gorges to explore on your 4-wheeler with lots of side gulches to travel for fun. The North Rim Drive is a main road between Chinle and Arizona 12. The overlooks along the way are great place to stop your 4-wheeler and snap some photos. There is a magnificent view of Spider Rock on this route. The area is on Navajo land and there are places where you need an Indian guide to access certain sites and you are not allowed to ride your 4-wheeler on Navajo land without one.

The bottom of the White House Ruins Monument has a campsite called Cottonwood Campground. This is a great place to spend a night, it’s free but you will have to leave your 4-wheeler at the top of the canyon. You can go with a guide to the bottom of the canyon - the walk is roughly half an hour to an hour depending on your individual walking speed. The campsite has facilities for rest rooms and showers and is a great way to relax after a day of riding your 4-wheelers in this scenic area.
