Southern Colorado 4-Wheeling at South Fork Lake Creek Road

Colorado has some beautiful country to ride your 4-wheeler on. If you love beautiful mountain scenery and wildlife; those sights will await you and much more when you go riding at South Fork Lake Creek Road. This moderately difficult 5.5 mile 4-wheeler trail takes you through the San Isabel National Forest. This trail is a 4-wheeler rider's dream.

To get to this awesome 4-wheeler trail from the Twin Lakes Village area, 4-wheeler riders will need to head 8 miles west of Twin Lakes Village on Highway 82 to South Fork Lake Creek Road. This is Forest Road 391 and will be on the left (south) side of the highway. The 4-wheeler trail winds around the valley floor of the South Fork of Lake Creek. South Fork Lake Creek Road provides 4-wheeler riders with excellent opportunities to see a variety of wildlife as well as a spectacular display of wild flowers in late spring or early summer. 4-wheeler enthusiasts who also enjoy camping will be happy to know that there are several campgrounds to rough it at along the route.

The beginning of the 4-wheeler trail takes you through some private property so show respect for the owners and stay on the trail and try to keep the noise and dust to a minimum. Careless operation of your 4-wheeler could result in closure of the trail. 4-wheeler riders who choose to take advantage of the camping opportunities should keep a few environmental tips in mind. Practice minimum impact camping by using established sites when available and minimize the use of fire. 4-wheeler riders should also observe proper sanitary disposal methods and bury waste 6 to 8 inches deep and at least 200 feet away from campsites, trails and water sources.

4-wheeler riders will also need the proper permit to ride the trails which are available from the ranger's station within the San Isabel National Forest. Have fun riding in southern Colorado!
