How to Get a Properly Fitted 4-Wheeler Helmet

Safety is always first when you are out riding your 4-wheeler. No matter what your riding style on your 4-wheeler or where you love to ride, you must have a properly fitted 4-wheeler helmet. Forested trails can hold dangers just as much as climbing a sandy dune on your 4-wheeler and you must protect yourself.

Some people still opt for the open face helmets, although most safety experts do not recommend them. Accidents happen occasionally and on that occasion, you want your face as protected as possible. Full face helmets provide excellent protection. They come with a built in face shield and the molding of the helmet extends over your chin and mouth for added protection.

Your helmet, no matter which type you choose, should be DOT and/or Snell certified and should fit snugly. It should be tight when you pull it on your head. As we've discussed in other articles, you don't want any room inside your helmet. You want your helmet as snug as possible so if an impact occurs your head won't slam against one side or the other inside your 4-wheeler helmet. When fitting children for 4-wheeler helmets, make sure there is no wiggle room by shifting the helmet from side to side while the child holds their head as steady as possible.

You want a good seal around your ears, keeping the wind and noise out will actually improve your hearing of the sounds around you. When researching helmets, you will see three letters repeatedly. Just remember EPS = foam type cushioning inside your 4-wheeler helmet. Therefore, the more EPS the better because the EPS is what actually absorbs the force of an impact.

Make sure you have a DOT approved helmet when you ride your 4-wheeler and make sure your kids have properly fitted helmets to make every ride a safe one. You are going to be glad that you took this step with your 4-wheeler safety equipment.
