Idaho has some of the best maintained riding trails in the country. Most are kept very natural and located in the southwest part of the state, not far from Boise is the Hemminway Butte OHV Trail.
If you like a good variety of terrain when your ride your 4-wheeler, this is a fantastic destination. You will find dirt roads, dense trails, sandy washes and rocky terrain. This trail system is managed by the Federal Bureau of Land Management and is located between the Melba junction and Oreana on state Highway 78, 45 miles southwest of Boise.
You will find over 100 miles of trails to ride your 4-wheeler on and along with the variety of terrains to tackle on this trail system. You will also have uphills - some of them steep and then plateaus to take your 4-wheeler on. The trails within this trail system are rated from moderate to difficult.
No matter what time of year you're riding in this area, be sure to bring along extra water. There are no facilities and dehydration can creep up on a rider quickly and cause fatigue and poor judgment.
The views in this area are outstanding and from the Hemminway Butte OHV Trailhead parking areas the Owyhee Mountains are seen in the distance. Cell phone service is also fair to poor in this area, you probably won't get any service whatsoever unless you're at a higher elevation. If you want to make a long weekend out of riding and exploring this area on your 4-wheeler, there is no fee to ride this trail system and primitive camping is allowed.
