Dead Horse Run ATV and Motorcycle Trail is a 56-mile long 4-wheeler trail that has links with the Tuscobia Trail and Stock Farm Bridge Campground as well as ATV routes and trails to Gildden, Clam Lake and Cayuga.
This trail system is made on snowmobile trails and is about 14 feet wide. Much of the trail has a firm surface to ride on, other areas of the trail system are wet; however, some sections are located on wetter soils and pools of water may be present on the trail. There are few areas too purchase fuel for your 4-wheeler, be sure to pack along extra gas for your machine.
In August, due to heavy rains in the area, National Forest Officials have declared ATV trails in portions of Sawyer and Ashland counties impassable. The heavy rains left the 4-wheeler trails with downed trees, large limbs and flood waters in many areas that are not draining as quickly as expected.
The storms affected other nearby trails in southeast Ashland and northeast Sawyer County in an area from Clam Lake south to Loretta then east to the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest boundary near the Stockfarm Bridge Campground and the Spring Brook Non-Motorized Area in the area of the Dead Horse 4-wheeler trail system.
There are currently signs being posted so that anyone attempting to ride the Dead Horse trail system knows the trails are closed. Signs are being installed informing the pubic that the trails are impassable and advising them to consider other riding opportunities. The signs will remain in place until the flood waters have completely receded.
