4-Wheeling at Moses Lake Sand Dunes

Located just about an hour outside Beverly Dunes is another riding area in Washington State where 4-wheeler enthusiasts can have a great time. This is a riding area of 3,000 acres, 2,000 acres of which is open to all OHV vehicles. Moses Lake Dunes has somewhat similar sand to the dunes in Beverly but it is finer due to ash fall from the Mount St. Helene's eruption in the '80s. This makes the sand dustier, so expect to come home with sand in your "nooks and crannies." Because the wind has an eastward flow the dunes flow this way also. Be aware of the layout before starting out on a run, there are 20-foot drops in areas.

This is a great time to make sure you have an extra air filter in your riding kit. The ash that is mixed with the sand in this area is fine and will get kicked up and into your air filter. Having a spare to switch them out will keep your machine running strong on the dunes.

Also, be aware of any rules and regulations of the area before starting. The Moses Lake Sheriff Department can clue you in on any updates or changes. As with Beverly Dunes, there is a rule that says all 4-wheelers/OHVs need to have a flag on their antenna for visibility. Take care watching for any other 4-wheelers in your riding area; blowing sand does mess with visibility.

Besides all the variety of 4-wheeler experiences here, the gem of surprise is the Moses Lake itself. You might want to double your day trip time and take your 4-wheeler and swimming trunks along. There is something for everyone to enjoy here. Have a great morning and afternoon on the dunes, then hit the cool water of Moses Lake and cool off from the day of 4-wheeling fun.
