California has numerous fun ATVing opportunities. The Johnson Valley OHV Area has numerous types of terrain to ride your ATV on. From sharp, red rock mountains, low open valleys, vast rolling hills and even sand from the dry lakebeds.
It's easy to get to. Just take Highway 247, about 55 miles southeast of Barstow (CA) or about 25 miles east of Victorville California. Most ATVer's, access the area off Camp Rock Road driving north off of Highway 247. Staging for many competitive events is at Anderson Dry Lake, about 10 miles north of Highway 247 just east of Camp Rock Road. You can also get access north of Highway 247, driving east toward Yucca Valley, at Bessemer Mine Road.
The Johnson Valley OHV Area has a huge amount of area to ride your ATV on. It measures in at over 189,000 acres of ATV trails. You can enjoy the narrow canyons, flat dry lakes, sand dunes and all the trails that connect these various types of terrain. You will see the remains of a good number of mines in this area. Many mines are now bat habitats and are dangerous to enter due to the possibility of collapse and pockets of toxic gases that collect in these old unused mines.
There is ample camping available off the ATV in various places. When you and your buddies are done riding for the day, pull over and set up camp for the night. You can always explore Johnson Valley a little more in the morning.
