Alaska's own Ellutna Lake is a very busy Alaskan Lake that happens to have a very fun ATV trails around it. There are very easy trails and this is splendid place for beginners to learn to not only better handle their ATVs and learn greater maneuvering techniques on their ATVs. The lakeside trail is an old road and very easy to navigate for newer ATVers as it is very level and wide.
Be aware that these are multi-use ATV trails and you will run into people hiking, biking, backpacking, horseback riding, dog sledding, other ATVers, people who are Skiing and snowmobiling. You will also see numerous people canoeing/kayaking out on the lake no matter what time of year it is.
This is not a large ATV trail as the length of this ATV trail is just over 12 miles and there is a large amount of traffic on these ATV trails during the riding season. This is also a good opportunity for newer ATV riders to learn to drive their ATVs friendly with other traffic in the area and learn proper techniques for when one meets up with hikers and horseback riders. To avoid spooking horses, always pull your ATV over and kill the engine. When the horseback rider is about 100 yards down the trail, restart your ATV and maintain a good safe distance between yourself and the horses.
The scenic Chugach Mountains border this valley lake and this area is very picturesque no matter what time of year you bring your ATV to this area to ride. There are public use cabins available and you are allowed to set up a primitive campsite around this ATV trail in case you want to take it slow and just have a good long weekend of ATV riding.
