Named for the wild Longhorns that once roamed this area, Cow Mountain is now a great destination for ATV enthusiasts. Cow Mountain is split into two areas, the North and South. The North Side of Cow Mountain is for non-motorized activities only such as hiking, biking, and wildlife interpretation. The South Side of Cow Mountain is designed for the use of ATVs and other motorized vehicles.
Cow Mountain is over 31 miles of streams and 13 water reservoirs ready for you to splash down and tackle. Make sure your have good mud tires on your ATV such as the Blackwidow ATV Tires. They will take you through loose gravel, mud, and water. You are sure to see many of the local Cow Mountain residents such as the native black tail deer, bears, and maybe even some wild turkeys.
There is a diverse amount of terrain to ride on your ATV at Cow Mountain. There is a creek and mountain ridge that separates the riding areas. There are numerous places in the South End to ford the creek the trail is parallel to the mountain ridge. The terrain is rugged and steep in some areas of this trail system and the multiple trails do not interconnect. Make sure to get a map from the Bureau of Land Management and plan your ride. The trails are rated intermediate to difficult and most will have an obstacle (such as fallen trees) to climb over on your ATV.
