New ATV riders will enjoy riding the North Elk Trail as the trail is rated as very easy. The North Elk Trail is part of the White River National Forest and the setting is lushly forested with groves of Aspen and there are fantastic views of wild flowers in the late spring and early summer and if you are riding these trails in the early morning hours, there are ample opportunities to view wildlife in the area.
The ATV trail is just over 2 miles in length and this is a perfect place to break in your ATV or if you're just learning to ride. Experienced ATVers will enjoy the spectacular views. The ATV trail has a few very low hills that are not challenging to the most experienced of riders, as the rise in elevation is very gradual the trail opens to a valley and meadow. The season for North Elk ATV trail runs from May through November. In addition to ATVing, the area also offers motorcycling, four wheeling, mountain biking, and horseback riding.
In the valley or meadow areas, it is a perfect place to pull over and have a picnic with your riding buddies or just pull over and enjoy the amazing views. Just off the main trail at the clearing is North Fork Clear Creek. It is found roughly a quarter of a mile north off the ATV and is accessible by foot only. If you want to stretch your legs and take a few photographs, this is a perfect way to do it.
Since this is National Forest Land, you will need a permit issued by the Forest Rangers. Make sure your sticker is displayed in plain sight during your ride. North Elk Trail will have something for every rider!
