If you're looking for some short day trips to make with your ATV or motorcycle, Georgia has a huge number of riding opportunities. Many of these areas border private property, so be aware where the trail ends and private property begins. Some landowners don't mind a little trail blazing by ATV and motorcycle riders and others mind in a large way. Unless you have specific permission from the landowner (and for your own protection from a fine - get it in writing), always get permission before you go exploring off of a designated trail riding area.
Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge in Savannah has over 2,824-acres to explore and is lushly forested with pine and oak forests. There are also open fields and freshwater ponds and salt marsh creating a brackish water environment. The trail system is just over 4 miles long and certain sections are closed to vehicle traffic during the breeding season. The trails are only open during daylight hours.
A very technical ride is located at Horn Creek in Augusta where you will find 5 of the hardest miles you can ride. It has deceptively nice smooth areas that turn into rocky, obstacle filled areas with large tree roots, fallen trees and large rocks. If you are an experienced rider, or even better, an experienced rider with a winch kit, you will enjoy this trail system immensely.
The Houston Valley Georgia US Forest ORV Area is 25 miles of very easy trails that are well marked and very well maintained. There are a few challenges that experienced riders will enjoy and camping is allowed if you're looking to make a full weekend out of riding this trail system.
