The Pike National Forest has a 4-mile long ATV trail that is often overlooked because it is so small. This little stretch of trail is rated easy and if you are a beginning ATVer or you just want a relaxing ride to admire the scenery, this is the place to go. The trail is open from May through October.
Newer ATVers can practice important maneuvering skills on their ATVs as well as pick up new ones. The ATV trail is densely foliaged and doesn't get a huge amount of traffic but you can expect to see people often when you ride. You have the potential to run into other ATVers, hikers, bikers, and motorcycle riders at any point because this ATV trail connects with trails 657, 674, 676, and 677.
Since this is a National Forest managed land, be sure to wear your helmet as required at all times and no passengers are allowed on ATVs, even two-seaters. You will need to register your ATV at the Ranger's station where you ATV will be inspected to insure you have a noise muffler and a spark arrestor installed on your ATV. You will be given a permit to ride and that permit must be displayed in an easy-to-see position on your ATV. They also ask that you adhere to the standards set forth by Treadlightly. You will be protecting the natural riding resources of the area by doing so.
In order to keep these trails in good riding condition, periodically the National Forest Service closes off portions of trails and reopens other trails so vegetation can reclaim itself. Always get a map of the most current open trails to ride your ATV on.
