Riding the Winchester State Park Snowmobile Trails

Riding the Winchester State Park Snowmobile Trails

The Winchester State Park snowmobile trails are situated among a 103 acre lake, near the Craig Mountains. This is the perfect park for snowmobiling due to their location in northern Idaho, and their winters are long and cold with lots and lots of snow. The park is located approximately 36 miles south of Lewiston. If you are driving there, it is just off US 95.

The snowmobiling season is from December to March. Besides snowmobiling the Winchester State Park also has wonderful trout fishing and has full service camping facilities. You can even bring your dog along, as long as he or she remains on a leash. There are also many educational opportunities including lectures and workshops to teach you about the wilderness surrounding you. You are even allowed to bring small boats.

This is a beautiful park to enjoy snowmobile riding. It is naturally very beautiful with breathtaking views of the mountains, lakes, and forests. If you find yourself in Northern Idaho, then you should definitely check this park out. It will be well worth your time. Pack a camera along for the snowmobile ride, you'll want to remember this scenic ride.

Before heading out on the trail for an adventure make sure you take a few snowmobile safety precautions. First, don’t drink and drive. Another common sense rule for snowmobile riding is always wear your helmet, even for a short jaunt, you need to protect yourself. Second, don’t race your snowmobile, drive at a moderate pace to allow yourself to drive defensively. Third, carry a first aid kit with you just in case of an emergency, it isn't a common occurrence, but just in case, be prepared - the emergency kit you pack along may very well save someone else. Try to avoid snowmobiling across large bodies of water, you can't be sure its hard frozen. Last, dress warmly, when snowmobiling, you can lose over 70% of your body heat through your head, dress in layers and always wear a thermal hat under your helmet!
