A Little ATV Maintenance For Your Pistons

Once in a great while, your engine on your ATV might seize up, usually this is due to your two stroke engine needing to have its pistons replaced. Fortunately, although you can pay an arm and a leg to have it done, you can do it yourself iwth a little know-how and patience.

First of all, remove the plastic bodywork of your ATV, that way there is no chance of you accidently damaging it. Then there are nuts around the head. If there is dirt and grime, take this opportunity to gently brush it away using a good stiff brush.

Then, remove the old piston from the rod and hold it firmly as you remove it. This is a good time to apply a very small amount of grease around the moving part areas to insure ease of movement. Then place the new piston on the rod and put the screws back into place. If you are not sure which way the piston goes on the rod, just remember that the arrow on the top always points toward the exhaust port.

Break in your new piston gently, your ATV may be a little slow to start the first time but then it should be fine after the fuel has run through the system. Run one tank of gas through the engine during the break-in period for your new piston and you should have many more great times of riding on your ATV.

A little know-how and a little preventative maintenance on your ATV will give you an OHV that will deliver hours upon hours of riding fun.
