Angeles National Forest is a busy area to ride your ATV, but since it offers up more than 600,000-acres of wilderness for hiking, camping, skiing, biking, fishing, hunting, and ATVing fun, it's well worth putting up with the crowds that sometimes happen.
The scenic beauty of this ATV trail system is well known and with good reason, the flora gives way to dry mountain desert, with seasonal lakes and streams taking up a very small percentage of the Forest's total area.
There are over a dozen trailheads to begin your ATV excursion on, basically you just need to find the one you want to ride. One of the most popular areas is at the San Gabriel Mountain Range at the Angeles Crest Scenic Byway, also known as Highway 2, which begins in La Canada and winds along postcard mountain vistas dotted by picnic areas, hiking trails, and falling rock. This is a challenging ride for you ATV and one that you will love and want to ride again.
Do be aware that both bears and rattlesnakes are in abundance in this area. For bears, don't leave your food out and lock it up tight they won't be much of a bother. Rattlesnakes look for the warmest thing in the area to get next to at night, zip up your sleeping bags and it's a good rule of thumb to shake them out before getting in them at night if you've left yours laying around.
There are some precarious drops into hazy ravines off the ATV trail sides and the painted mountains are breathtaking. Since this is National Forest managed lands be careful and obey all rules and regulations and you'll have a great time riding these ATV trails.
