Barett Lake trail is not only a great place to ride your ATV, it is a fantastic place to set up camp and make a weekend out of an ATVing outing. The ATV trails are mostly easy with a few challenging and technical sections. Make sure you know the basics of safely maneuvering your ATV on inclines before attempting to climb the more difficult areas on your ATV.
You can unload your ATV at the trailhead near Wrights Lake and head directly onto the ATV trail. There is an uphill climb almost immediately after entering the ATV trail and some lightly rocky sections you will find fun to climb on your ATV.
Deeper inside the ATV trails, there are some rocky sections that you will be well advised to make sure you have winch kit on your ATV just in case your tires can't get a good grip. The steeper part of the ATV trails aren't impossible to pass but certainly a challenge for the lesser experienced ATVer.
If you choose to camp at any place on the trail, remember to follow the guidelines set forth by Treadlightly and leave no trace of your ATV ride or your campsite. If you pack it with you, pack it out. There are no receptacles for refuse of any kind, make sure you don't leave any trash or discarded items at your campsite.
Barret Lake trails are managed by the El Dorado National Forest Service and as with all National Forest lands, be sure that you have your spark arrestor and noise muffler in place prior to riding your ATV on these trails. You can usually get a current map in the ranger's station, so you can get the latest changes - if any- that have happened on the ATV trails.
