When in California and you're looking for some great places to ride your ATV. The Dusy/Ershim trail might be the answer to your quest. This 33-mile long ATV trail has a lot to offer up for a day or so of fun ATVing.
It is basically a pathway between two wilderness areas in the Sierra National Forest of central California. With John Muir to the East and Dinky Lakes to the West, this Southern corridor is the only motor vehicle route through the National Forest.
As with all National Forest managed lands make sure you have your ATV permit displayed in a prominent place and you have a spark arrestor and muffler in place on your ATV.
Most people start this ATV trail at the Southern end, but due to the crowds you may want to begin in the North at Kaiser Pass.Your ATV will be traveling up on a small slope to about 6,000 feet in elevation when you reach Shaver Lake. This is the last place you can get supplies for your ATV ride. If you need it, pack it on here.
If you need bathroom facilities, in something unusual for most national forest managed lands, these ATV trails have facilities available at Badger Flat's. If you want to set up camp in these areas, it is permissible. Park your ATVs and have a great night. Just remember, there are no trash bins here, if you bring it in with you, bring it out.
When you reach the Badger Flats area, you will have climbed in your ATV to about 8,000 feet and the air can seem thin to anyone that isn't use to it. Rest often if you aren't used to riding your ATV in this type of climate.
