The Coal Creek ORV Area is home to 72,000 acres of land that is perfect for an ATV off road adventure, located in Oliver Springs, Tennessee, about 15 miles west of Knoxville. The area's huge hills, great creek crossings, mud pits, scenic vistas, and miles of trail make this a truly ideal place for ATV riding, and is perfect for both the beginning and experienced ATV rider. The land is owned by the Coal Creek Mining and Manufacturing Company, who made an agreement with the Windrock ATV club to allow the property to be used as an off road vehicle and ATV trail system. The trails are open to everyone and various different types of vehicle: ATVs, Jeeps, Motorcycles, Buggies, and more. The rules for riding your ATV in the area are rather simple: wear proper safety equipment at all times, ride only on the trails that are marked, do not climb hills except in the designated areas, do not bring firearms in the area, and don't litter.
The area is open and available 24 hours a day, and 365 days a year, and free primitive camping is available in he area as well. A Land Use Permit is needed to access the area, but these are cheap and easy to obtain. To get to the Coal Creek trail head from highway 62 in Oliver Springs, then go three miles north on to Windrock Road. The trailhead is easy to spot, with lots of parking space to accommodate both large and small groups of ATV enthusiasts. As was stated previously, the camping is primitive, but it is free. There are currently no toilets or sinks available, but plans are being made to add these things to the site soon. Remember to be safe, follow the rules, and have an exciting ATV experience!
