Riding your ATV at the Edison Butte Trail System is only about 25 miles long, but it is certainly a great ride. It is located on the slopes of Kwolh Butte and Sheridan Mountain, just west of Bend.
The recommended riding season is late June to October because of the high likelihood of snow to cover the ATV trail in the spring and summer months.
The ATV trail system goes through ponderosa pine and manzanita forest in the lower elevations, near the Edison Sno-Park and goes up into stands of hemlock trees near Kwolh Butte and Sheridan Mountain. This lush forest is a treat to ride through, even the most novice of ATVers will enjoy the ride here with very little difficulty.
After that part of the trail, you will come upon the volcanic terrain can be challenging and unless you're experienced or have an experienced ATVer in your group to show you the proper navigation for this type of terrain, it is not recommended that newer or inexperienced ATVers attempt this alone.
These are multi-use trail systems and you will be sharing these trails with mountain bikers and other recreationists during the summer months, so be conscientious and courteous of other users on the ATV trails.
If you choose to camp out at Edison Butte, it is allowed but only primitive camping. There is no water and no garbage collection, so whatever you bring in must leave with you. Small campfires are permitted, but please keep them small and don't leave them unattended. Please do not build campfires on the pavement. High winds and dry conditions can fuel a wildfire even at unlikely times of the year. Please note that spark arrestors are required on your ATV from April 1 to October 31.
