The Lasso Trail, which is part of the South Pedlar ATV Trail System, is designed for the recreational ATV rider.
Directions for getting there start in Lynchburg. Follow Route 130 toward the Blue Ridge Parkway. After crossing through the Blue Ridge Parkway underpass, to the right, is Forest Development Road. Turn right into the Rattlesnake Trailhead parking lot.
This trail was made for the ATVer and all the fun that goes with it. While ATVing here, you will find all the challenges, narrow and twisting trails,and wide and inviting ones. While on your ATV, stop and enjoy the scenery. The groves of large trees, or the spectacular mountain laurel blooms in season is fantastic. If you don't normally bring your camera on your ATV rides, this is one ride to start doing it on.
There are some rules, in which all ATVers must follow. Only Four-wheel ATV's are permitted, and you must follow all signs and regulations.
Designated trails are marked by orange diamonds with a reflective mountain symbol. They will be closed seasonally as weather conditions dictate, but usually from December 25 through April 1. This is not only to protect the trails, but the ATVer as well.
Your ATV must have good brakes, a muffler, and spark arrester.As an experienced ATVer already knows, a helmet must be worn during operation, and only one rider on the ATV at all times.
Always remember, safety is your first priority, in the sport of ATVing. Not only must you make sure the ATV is in running order, but you must make sure you have supplies in case something happens. Some food and water, with a first aid kit would be a good start. Always let someone know where you are and about when you will return. A cell phone may not work up in the mountains, so keep that in mind and always tell someone face to face where you are going and when you should return.
