ATV Riders Should See Patterson OHV Trail

The reason all ATVers should try the Patterson OHV Trail is because it is the most exciting trail for you to ride. It covers over 15 miles, containing all sorts of challenges, no matter what your ATV riding skill level.

This trail is located in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests and is about 15 miles in length. It is open from dawn till dusk during the following months, June 16 - September 30 and December 8 - March 15.

To get to this trail, follow the trailhead facility, head north from Roanoke via Route 220. Just past Eagle Rock, turn left onto Route 615 at the Roaring Run Sign. Drive about 1.5 miles, then turn left onto Route 685. After crossing Craig Creek, take a left at the fork in the road onto Route 818. Keep going about 4 miles then turn left onto FDR 5020 (known locally as the O&I Road). Proceed about 3 miles to trailhead parking on the left. There is no fee for using or parking at this site.

During this 15-mile trail, you will encounter steep inclines to take on in your ATV, deep valleys and even some water to cross. Remember to adhere to the standards put forth by Treadlightly and use care when crossing creeks and streams to do as little damage as possible to the terrain with your ATV.

As with all State Forest lands, you must be wearing a helmet and ride your ATV on designated trails only. No night riding (park is closed after dark) and no alcohol or drugs of any kind are permitted on this ATV trail.

There is a lot of fun to be had on the Patterson OHV trail, gather up your buddies and come enjoy the ride!
