Most people think concrete and cars when they think of Michigan, but Michigan has some fabulous ATV trails. Abrose Lake is a wonderful place for beginning ATV riders. The trail is a simple 9 mile loop that goes around the lake. There are not a lot of challenges and it's a great way for new riders to build confidence and learn good handling skills of their ATVs.
Bass Lake in Marqueete County has a lot of narrow trails and mud. Be advised a winch kit is a good item to have installed on your ATV for this ride. If you want a good challenge, you'll find it here with their steep inclines, hills, and winding trails. A great ATV ride!
Huron-Manistee National Forest has superb trails for ATV riders. Since these are Federal Lands, you must have a permit showing at all times, wear your DOT approved helmet (just plain good sense), and have a spark arrestor and muffler installed on your ATV. These trails are narrow and changed periodically to allow the forest to reclaim itself and new trails are opened. Be sure and get a map so you have the most current trails to follow. Going trailblazing is not allowed.
Ontonagon County Multi-Use Trails is the starting point to take on Bill Nicol's Trails. You really won't find more miles of ATV riding in the Midwest, than what you will find in and around Ontonagon County. Lots of challenging riding and designated areas for beginning ATV riders.
Ottawa National Forest is one of the most popular places to ride ATVs with something for everyone. The Forest Service rules apply just like at Huron-Manistee. Michigan has so much to offer you and your ATV for your next ride.
