In the South Central Region of Colorado is one of the smallest, yet most challenging ATV trails you will encounter. The Mount Rosa Trail while small in length, is a real test of your ATV skills.
It is a multi-use trail and you may see other ATV riders, motorcyclists, or mountain bikers, but since the trail has a high difficulty rating, its use is very light by all off road vehicle traffic.
The riding season for this ATV trail is June through September and although it is just over a mile in length, this ATV trail climbs to an elevation of 1,449 during your ATV ride.
The Mount Rosa ATV Trail climbs Mt. Rosa which stands at an elevation of 11,499- feet in just a little over one mile. Then follow Mount Rosa ATV Trail proper which will begin around Forest Development Road 381. On this ATV ride there are a serious of steep switchbacks which will take you from 10,000 feet to 10,900 feet. Follow the ATV trail to the left as it forks and walk the ridge line to the summit of Mount Rosa. The ATV trail may also be accessed from St. Mary's Falls Trail and may be used as a switcharound. There are steep switchbacks at the 6th mile that make this a challenging ATV trail. The round-trip mileage is 12 miles for this ATV trail.
As with most National Forest managed areas, some strict guidelines apply if you're going to ride your ATV in this area. You must be wearing a DOT approved helmet and you must have your ATV permit clearly displayed on your ATV at all times. They also require that you have a muffler and spark arrestor installed on your ATV to reduce noise pollution and fire hazards which are a possibility any time of year.
