ATVing North Elk Trail is about as picturesque as a post card. Set in an open alpine valley in the White River National Forest, this ATV trail is a wonderful place to view everything from wildlife to wild flowers.
This 2.2 mile ATV trail is considered easy, and might be a good place to bring the whole ATVing family. Young ATV riders can break in their new ATVs with relative safety here, while adult ATV riders will still enjoy riding along through the aspen woods. This would actually be a good time for adult ATV riders to install good safety practices in the youngsters. Make sure they know to always wear their ATV helmets, goggles and gloves.
The ATV trail is a little bumpy, but the climb is gradual and eventually ATVers arrive to the open valley and meadows. The view here is breathtaking.

The season for North Elk ATV trail runs from May through November. In addition to ATVing, the area also offers motorcycling, four wheeling, mountain biking, and horseback riding.

Since the area is run by White River National Forest, All ATV riders will need ATV permits to hit the trails, and those permits should be displayed in plain sight if you want to avoid being ticketed. Check you ATV's muffler and spark arrestor because both need to be in good working order, and we all want to make sure this pristine alpine area isn't spoiled for all ATVers. Make sure to properly dispose of any trash, and perhaps the best idea is to pack it back out on your ATV with you, along with the rest of your gear.
