Dalton Highway is a fun ride for ATVers of every skill level. This scenic road is part of the Brooks Range and is considered a true ATVing adventure for North American ATV riders.
There is ample wildlife available, which will probably be checking you out as your ride your ATV in this area and some of the tundra citizens you have the potential of meeting are : arctic foxes, muskoxen (particularly north of Slope Mountain), caribou, peregrine falcons, golden eagles, and rough-legged hawks.
There is almost no gas services until the end on this ATV trail make sure that you have ample gas and everyone that you are riding ATVs with has a good supply with them. This area is a desolate and lonely area if you happen to get stranded without gasoline for your ATV.
Most of this trail is rated as easy, but at the 240 mile marker the elevation begins a 4700 steep, rocky climb and this is the part of the ATV rider more experienced ATVers will truly enjoy. Not only is this area full of scenic beauty and wildlife, it is also one extremely fun ride.
If you are a newer or inexperienced ATV rider, be sure to have someone along for the ride that is much more experienced. Additionally, Alaskan weather conditions are famous for their spur of the moment declines into something less than pleasurable. So make sure to pack along warmer clothing and basic necessities for your ride along the way. There is primitive camping allowed on this road and the standards of Treadlightly apply here. If you pack it in with you, pack it out and keep the Dalton Highway preserved for the next ATV rider so there will be years of fun at this location.
