Alaska is truly untamed country and perfect for ATV trail riding. There are a number of great trails in Alaska ranging from easy to navigate to extremely difficult.
Lake My Am Trail in Kodiak has some challenging ATV riding and is definitely not for the beginners. It's been reported that there can be a lot of thick, soupy mud on these trails so be aware and use the "treadlightly" creed when riding these ATV trails.
Another great ATV ride can be found at Bird Creek. This ATV trail has a lot of twists and turns and has usable side trails off the main ATV trail path that were once used for both logging and seismic exploration camps. The elevation goes up to 500 feet and be aware you will be sharing these trails with both bikes as well as other ATV riders.
Chugach and Tongrass are both National Forest land that have some fantastic ATV trails. Chugach offers a lot of dense foliage and narrow trails. Get a current map from the Ranger's station before you ride as sometimes trails are changed to allow the vegetation to reclaim old trails so the Chugach Forest stays as natural as possible. If your ATV group is planning a ride in Chugach Forest, your ATV group will need to fill out this form stating the group size and nature of your activities. Tongrass National Forest has areas currently in development for ATV riding and it is currently not allowed in the Forest. However planning is underway for several areas to be developed that will allow you and your group to ride your ATVs and explore this lush, temperate forest.
